New weapon skill lines?

While I hate to dredge up this topic again as many others including myself have already made posts about it but it has been over 3 years since launch and the only new skills added to the game have been passives and pay walled warden. The weapon ultimate's where in the beta while not in the same form they are not a new idea and the morph changes in class skills during the stamina re-balance are just recolors of the same skills if even that. Has Zos really not released even a hint that they are working on a new weapon set outside of the Q&A pre One Tamriel? What ever even happened to spell crafting? Is the mysterious one handed & rune just a ZoS **** tease for going on 2 years or are they legit working on something for the hole that is one handed casting from weapons?

The main reason I bring this up is that it is a topic my friends and I find ourselves regularly discussing. While the present selection of class skills and weapon sets are neat for the first few hours of use after playing for days, weeks, months, and years they start to become abysmally stale. While all the new story content has been added this is something that I have felt has been swept under the rug and neglected in favor of larger scope items. While a new weapon set or new morphs for class skills or existing weapons might not seem as shiny upfront as a new guild adventure or dungeon or a new voice acted quest line I feel its something that could really breath new life in to gameplay and add more depth to character building but the longer it remains neglected the more complicated it will become for ZoS to add something like this as the weapon styles and new dungeons will continue to pile up forcing them to make even more skins for our fancy new armory.

    More weapons, and more customisation, are always good. Hopefully we'll get some in the future, personally I'm pretty keen for more staves (Necromancy, Illusion, Conjuration etc.). Spear would be pretty sweet too.

    Spellcrafting is still something we're thinking about adding to #ESO in the future."

    Zos don't care, no profit not very popular, go ahead link every dev I guarantee you they won't even see it, let alone care about it look I love Zos, but the ability to listen to the players on what content they would like to see is non existent

    You just posted this same message on another thread. I am not sure why you think ZOS doesn't care or is not profitable. Just because they make changes that you don't like does not mean that they don't care. They just did a meet and greet at PAX. Why would they do that if they don't care?

    I am not saying the game is perfect, but One Tamriel and Morrowind have increased the active players I strongly believe.

    I am always up for new weapon skills! But then, i would be, wouldn't I?

    ;)

    I still think that adding more weapon skill lines for -everyone- to pick and learn would be the niftiest way to expand the game - better them forcing peple to start a new alt to enjoy wardening, because such a skill line could be learned by anyone, old character or new, just by picking up one such weapon and killing some mob with it... and having more choices for character diversification -definitely- would make the game more fun for everyone involved!

    I definitely agree, as awesome as warden is I have some sentimental attachment to many of my characters as I've had them since just a bit after launch. Getting to pick up a new skill line on them experiment with different play styles and in general increase diversity from other set ups would be amazing! It is just a concerning thing for me as the game is getting older and those motifs keep piling on, kinda worried ZoS will crap out on ever making new weapons just cause of the amount of effort it would take to make a new skin for each motif for a new weapon set

    @bloodthirstyvampire

    I can empathize with that thought, a lot of times there are updates and changes I had been craving since almost the launch of a game and many within my circle echo that same desire and when a dev just completely ignores something that I would love to see for months or years it can be pretty disheartening. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt at least though, hope for the best kind of mentality. Although more transparency on some of those much desired features and if they are working on them would be nice.

    @PurpleDrank

    Thanks for pointing me to that! It is nice to see that they are at least keeping it in mind, although I feel with that wording they are likely not working on it and likely wont be for a long while. At least its a nibblet to tide me over for now though lol.

    Well they need to be careful adding new stuff, although I think it would be fantastic. I'm with you all on this. The issue that is presented is keeping it balanced to where its worth players using. I'm sure nobody wants them to rush something like this out and they add a spear or something, and then the forums get flooded with people requesting to nerf it. Or the other way, and its damage is so pitiful you wouldn't be losing much going bare fists. I'd suggest adding the spear with similar mechanics and the same category as a one handed weapon, to be paired with a shield, or have a Polearm as a two handed weapon which is the melee version of a staff. Simple new objects like this would be amazing. Just keep the new weapons in the same category as already existing stuff

    I saw a screenshot of an image file in game folder named ''onehandplusrune'' along with other weapon types . Problem is , there was no restoration staff :D Obviously was fake but still ... I think that was the closest time ESO got to have a new weapon skill line lol ^^

    Spears. Then I can make a female spear wielding argonian.

    But seriously I loved spears in morrowind and crossbows and throwing weapons.

    Oh and an unarmed monk skill line.

    @Kozato I do agree that they would need to be careful with adding it in for balance but something that might be easier is adding in these new weapon types in to existing trees like you mentioned. A lot of the animations would work well with a thrusting weapon, not that ZoS really cares since you can rapid strikes with maces... beyond that though if they added in a "rune" shield that was designed for spell resist and maybe a one handed spear adding in passives for the single handed types in sword and shield similar to duel wield, crossbows could be worked in to archery as having armor pen or high crit where bows might have bleeding strikes, and halberds where in morrowind they could add those to 2-handed maybe increasing reach or even a 2-handed spear to pull that as those where in morrowind at least as well. Honestly it hits a nice middle ground for people who want a little more variety in their build while increasing a more noticeable difference in ones equipment for the "fashion scrolls" players.

    @liofa Yeah the onehandedandrune file thing has been around since 2015 and recently resurfaced from data-miners after it had apparently went missing but with no real substance outside of icons its hard to take it as any real hint. If it is an honest file from the games files then it is something ZoS is doing stuff with I would imagine maybe spell making since they did have an actual working presentation of skills in use though they didn't show actually making a spell. Otherwise it might just be an npc thing and something in the game engine requires them to have gear in both hands to utilize skills and the "rune" is just a blank item.

    A polearm skill line. Then you can have Spear (the sword like thrusting weapon), Halberd (Axe like slashing weapon) and a Bec de Corbin (mace like Crushing weapon), as is traditional for TES games.

    If we DO get spear line, please please please make it come with a Spear and Shield line. Or at least let my tank use a spear and shield.

    A crossbow/ranged Stam line would be cool, but I would definitely pick Spear over it.

    Next, new magic weapons:
    One hand and rune - does it have to be an actual rune? No, could have options! A book, a wand, a rune.

    Next, some kind of "enchanted" weapons. Many Magicka DDs want to use swords but only a few builds can! Give us summoned weapons, or even a World conjuration skill line. I want to feel like Aetherian Archive Mage and summon a horde of axes to slice up my enemies with.

    Leading on from above, some new world lines:
    My Sorcerer wants to feel more magicky. He wants to levitate physics objects around his house, and provide some Mass Parlysis in fights! (Alteration). Conjuration mentioned above, also include a Daedra Titan Ult!

    Then illusion. Probably tough to balance, but it doesn't have to be useful in PvP. Could include some clone summoning (a la that Halo power) where they just run in a certain direction. Maybe there is an Illusion passive similar to Persuasion? Or, let us use Illusion magic to "upgrade" the look of items (transmogrification hint hint).

    Speaking of PvP, how about we give Alliance War a new skill line too? My preferred idea is one that is tied to a 1 per keep/tower/district buff, a Siege Banner. It operates similar to Overload and Werewolf, and gives powerful Zerg and Antizerg abilities, and only lasts for 15 minutes outside it's home keep (5mins in IC). Allies can pick it up if the bearer dies. Attempting to weapon swap drops the Banner.

    Necromancy, Illusion, and Conjuration were always magic skills in Elder Scrolls. As such, they have been built into the classes. They are not skills that should be built into staves. Having said that, spears would be cool. As would crossbows.

    I think the game won't be developed long enough to develop new weapons. Probably they will put it F2P after a year or so and then just let it float, leaving only bug fixing crew and moving all developers to another game.

    It feels like the engine is very limited, how much do you expect to wear on old engine?

    Destruction and Restoration were also magic skills and they went fine as staves, and they have also been built into the classes. I don't see it as an either/or thing.

    more weapons means reducing the drop rates further - i would only appreciate that if they'd kick out some of the traits from the loot table...i'd rather want

    - new skill lines independent of weapons
    - a new weapon line that incorporates existing weapons, 1h+ no offhand or staff + 1h (and the staff just gets visually shortened in size or so...gandalf style), double shield (oh yeah), staff-shield etc.
