What counts as melee damage?

Orc get increased melee damage, and imperial will get healing from melee damage, but what exactly counts as melee damage?

Does any melee range class skills count as melee damage? or is it just weapon skills and light heavy attacks?

For example, would Orc passive increase damage of templar jabs?

Just wanted to know before I roll a new char.

    From what I understand- any ability (weapon or class) that is within 8 meters is considered melee. HOWEVER, it gets a little tricky.

    A Templar's Biting Jabs (8m range) will proc Ravager...

    ...but a DK's flame lash (8m range) and burning embers/venomous claw (5m range).

    @ZOS_GinaBruno How about some clarification? I thought ZoS was trying to make skills/abilities follow similar guidelines.
    Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

    Hidden Blade will proc viper's (i've been hit by a hidden blade spammer with vipers)
    BTW Hidden blade has a range of more than 8 meters

    Yeah i just tested that last night.

    Jabs proc ravager,

    So i guess it would also proc imperial passive quite often, and axe bleed, as you get quite a lot of hits within a seconds.

    Good to know. Not that I wanna do a blade spammer, but good to know that it counts as melee damage, despite the range being more than 8m.
