Racial Stats Don't Matter?

I read that a lot. Racial stats do not give that much of an advantage. Right now I have a lvl 50 DE sorc and a lvl 28 WE sorc. My WE sorc is already surpassing my DE sorc in stats. I'm new to the game, only a month in but wouldn't this suggest that my WE sorc will be double the strength compared to my DE sorc? Can someone help explain this to me?

And that's battle lvling for you lower lvls get boost to stats to make up for passive they are missing and end game gear.

My lvl 10 with golden out gear has stats way above any lvl 660cp bc of this but has less abilities and Passives to help.

Has nothing to do with racial at end game ur dark elf will have better stats then the wood elf. But bc of battle lvling ur low lvl has higher stats.

This is just the Battle-Levelling system at work.

Cant properly compare 2 characters at different levels.

I decided to level the same template as a WE because the racial stats would suggest that it would be better. Am I wasting my time then? Will my DE but just as good as the same level?

you are being battle leveled which alters your stats an insane amount

you can only really compare characters that are the same level and wearing the exact same gear and have any CP distributed identically

and the racial choices will be clear at that point

in the example you have given the wood elf will always have more stam recovery, and the dark elf will always have more magic

but it depends what your ultimate aim is, if you want to play competitive PvP/PvE and push for top leaderboard then yes race matters

if you are trying to complete quests then no race doesnt matter

edt: im aware the 2 examples i gave are extreme and there is a lot of people who fall inbetween these

you have a dark elf which would be stronger as a magic DD

you have a wood elf which would be stronger as a stam DD

you are not wasting your time at all, just make the DE into a magic DD give it 2 destruction staves & light armour

    I was actually considering this.

Thanks for all of your feed back folks. I really appreciate it.

In the way max stat dmg contribution works in eso, 6% higher max stamina roughly equals 3% higher dmg.

Its up to u to decide if that is "huge" and u need it to be competitive, or if that is as good as nothing, because the advantage in ttk will be within milliseconds.

Lols about right a would elf should be a better stam sorc than a dark elf.

Not to say it isn't better to pic the right race. But it isn't that significant of a change. My first toon was a nord magica temp because I had no idea what I was doing. Soon as race change came out I converted him to a highelf. The difference was minimal at best. Definitely not worth the 3k crowns to change it, that's for sure.

Can't trust comparing battle leveled stats.

Racial choices DO matter, they just don't matter so much that you need to stress about them outside of the top 5% of content in the game.

Racials matter for the top 1% leaderboards of PVE and some PVP. Mostly it's just an inconvenience, having to adjust a build here and there and having it not perform the best it could. And if you plan on min and max wait the next patch, it's said to bring drastic changes to classes.

I guess this was the answer I was looking for. I was going to buy a change race token but if the difference is minimal then there is no point. I'm am average PVE player. I enjoy PVP from time to time. I just want to be able to solo as much as i can, get the maelstrom bow ECT......

I am using this template right now

Generally speaking Dark Elves are one of the most balanced racial picks. That, might give you the wrong impression, better to say, "least specialized," races. Their racial modifiers are pretty evenly split. So you'll see less stat difference from one of them vs another race than if you were looking at something like a Breton or Altmer and comparing them to your wood elf.

That said, your race doesn't really matter that much. It can offer you new options or a bit of a cushion for a weak point in your build, or you can use it to further boost your maximum potential. But your Bosmer isn't, automatically, going to make a better sorc than your Dark Elf. They will, however, make a stealthier sorc than your DE.

Which is why they have a buff to stamina, because members of House Telvanni are frequently confused by shiney objects, or things that move around in their vision. :p

Racials didn't use to matter that much due to soft caps, now they have a significant impact on things. Such an impact in fact that people have begun speaking about stamina and magicka races. Playing against the stat bonuses is totally doable, but doing so is giving yourself a handicap.

Keep in mind, that a lot of the mechanics of this game, rely on percent based bonuses, and like Al Barlett used to say: "The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function".

The more you stack a stat, the more you will get out of those percentage based bonuses. And the more you have such bonuses affecting the same thing, the more you will get out of all of them.

In short - race traits matter. A lot.

I have bombed with good results on Khajiits and Argonians, played both as stam and mag blades, I have played with ppl who have run HE and DE stamblades etc....Racial passives are nice, but you can use sets etc to counteract what others would consider an non optimal racial choice. You may not end up being Captain Meta, but you can still be very effective. Example..a High Elf stam blade with Bone Pirate etc would still have a good stam pool and have a ton of mag for cloaking etc....without having to use the witchmothers.....not ideal, but you can pretty much make any race work for anything to a point

Racials do offer an advantage but honestly you can overcome any unorthodox choice for race and class with skill and build.
