Can't lockpick, can't complete quest

Twinner_69
First, I recognize i would eventually get the hang of lockpicking, so that isn't what I'm commenting about, what I'm commenting about is the time it takes to get the hang of it and how as an adult with a full time job, I really don't want to spend that much time doing it. It seems ironic, lockpicking, a task I was phenomenal at in Oblivion, is something that caused me to quit this game. I spent a lot of money on this piece of... well you can imagine the adjective. It was a waste of time and cash I wish I had spent elsewhere.

No I'm not. Went through 30+ lockpicks... can't open the locks in this game. I do what I'm supposed to according to Oblivion and it just doesn't work in this game. I find something I dislike about this game every day. I really wish I hadn't spent money on it.

Oh man that is ridiculous. It's easy. You feel a vibration and release the pin. It's honestly easy. Try a master chest.

Watch YouTube if you're stuck or just forget about it. You don't even get good stuff from chests... lol

are you on PC? becasue if you are, you can get http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info909-FCOLockpicker.html which makes lockpicking a LOT easier. but even without it, it shouldn't take to long to get a feel for when each cylinder is starting to wobble a little and then letting go the button - I know there's a lock in tutorial section that you have to pick, but at least that lock gives you full minute to pick. go lightly and slowly. you are better off releasing too soon than forcing your pick too hard and breaking it. worst case scenario - you can just loot a LOT of furniture to fence stuff in order to level your legerdemain skill and just put points into forcing the lock (good places to steal stuff are scarp keep in Orcinium and 2 ships at the docks in Daggerfall city, Glenumbra - both have pretty much no npc's around so you don't even need to be good at stealth).

I struggle to pickpocket... because I have 300-400 ping... I can't possibiliy take advantage of the short window of easier pickpocketing.

You can spend skill points in the Legerdemain line to improve your chances of forcing locks ... which bypasses the tumblers.

But I agree with @WhoSlappedThePie ... remember we're more than 10 years past the release of Oblivion. Time to get with 2017 and watch a video on how it's done.

I finally figured it out. The problem is the awful tutorial that really explained it so poorly. I was doing what the tutorial said, but they just didn't clarify it enough. Once I saw it done on Youtube a few times, I realized what I was doing wrong. The people who were in charge of tutorials for this game were the worst.

The first rule of lock picking is to always remember that "you don't pick the lock, the lock picks you"...if you can understand that then you are also as drunk as I am right now. Merry Christmas!

can't argue with that. i love ESO to pieces, but the game itself is pretty awful at explaining how to play it. glad to see you figured locks out :) lockpicking in this game is probably my fave out of all the games I played that have lockpicking mechanics :)
