new player needs help

Hi all, just started playing this game a few days ago and Im trying to find some ingredients for a crafting writ. I need some seaweed and some wheat. Ive looked all around Vivic (my starting area) and none of the merchants have any. Any ideas where I can pick some up?

Check in every crate, barrel and sack you find. Provisioning items drop all over the map. You can also check guild traders to see if they have any for sale as well.

The best source next to container farming as mentioned above are Hirelings. You get them as you level Provisioning and unlock skill passives you can invest points into. But you need some skills points and while leveling, those are scarce and better spent on combat and support skills.

Just remember there are two kinds of containers, Owned and, well, Not Owned. If you take stuff from the Owned ones, you run the risk of being caught for a crime and having to pay a find and losing the stuff you stole. Not Owned containers are usually in Delves (caves) and you have mobs you have to fight. There are some areas where the risk to stealing is low to 0, so there is that.

If you want to keep your stolen ingredients, and other goodies, you have to Launder the stolen stuff you want to keep, or Fence the stolen stuff you want to sell. But, the nice thing is, you can use stolen ingredients to make a food or drink that is not marked stolen, so you can turn it in for a writ.

In some places you can find some ugly full armor sets for free (try on some ships?)...after you've suited up...just roam around and collect stuff. Eventually you can join a guild and sell most stuff for a profit.

To level crafting...best bet is to not get in a hurry...take your time learning to craft what you need...deconstruct what you don't need or can't sell for experience.

If you collect a lot of stuff...you will then feel free to craft stuff when needed.

Take your time and enjoy the game...crafting writs can be fun...but eventually you can level up crafting a lot by deconsructing what you find in the game.

Provision ingredients are "garbage" for most vet players. Put out a zone chat and you'll probably get a stack for free. I have like 9k of each ingredient, and I always share when asked. You can also put your platform in your signature on the forums. Like if I saw you were on PS4 NA I would immediately shoot you over some, but I'm not sure what platform you're on.

If you're playing on PC, this site can help you to track anything you might want or need from guild traders. It's not 100% reliable. Sometimes stuff gets bought and still appears on the site. But it's a lot quicker than going to different guild stores yourself and checking.
