We Won't Get a New Class Every Year...

I would prefer that they add a fourth skill line to existing classes, and new weapons skill lines like a melee magicka weapon and some kind of healing stam weapon.

The responses have been of only two types, generally:
    1. No, it would be too hard to balance.
    2. No, we would rather have a new class or skill line we haven't seen yet.

...and never the twain shall meet.

New stuff we haven't seen yet would be exciting. I'd welcome it. But I doubt they have the cash to fund the development of a Monk or Necromancer class from scratch. I'm worried that the Morrowind cash-grab indicated ZOS doesn't have the budget for too much other than new dungeons and zones. As stated previously, the new Warden was cobbled together from a lot of pre-existing development that had been shelved. They probably can't push out a new Monk or Necromancer class in under a year like they did with the Warden class.

In terms of "new" stuff, my first guess would be that we'll see something like a vampire/werewolf skill line in the next Chapter release. Maybe that will be the ever-demanded Necromancer. It would be a little disappointing, however. I'd rather wait for comprehensive Necromancer class, instead.

I sincerely apologize for not being more clear, but my original post was too long already. It wasn't my intention to provoke a new Necromancer thread. Honestly, I expected more thorough objections than simply smacking the "balance issues" button. My hope was to share an idea that is both plausible and probable, given the constraints the game and ZOS have.

Those constraints are time and money.

And if the last three years of ESO have taught me anything, ZOS is very good at rearranging the existing bones of the game and hyping the action like New Years Eve 1999. Think back on "One Tamriel" -- all they really did was merge the zone instances to stop segregating players and applied the content-scaling mechanic that already existed in Wrothgar. Allowing players to learn a subclass skill line would be right up ZOS's avenue, considering those skill lines already exist in-game.

Adding another vampire/werewolf skill line, a sixth class, and the ability to add a subclass skill line to an existing character, in my opinion, would be the over-the-rainbow state of affairs I'd like ESO to experience within the next three years. As I pointed out in my original post, it would take the number of potential builds from 300 to 7200. That's where I'd like to see the game progress to by 2020.

That's the one thing I liked about Rift. You had 5 "classes" to pick from (Warrior, Cleric, Rogue, Mage, Primalist). Once you chose your class, you picked 3 souls out of an available list of 11. Those became your 3 class trees.

Talk about a lot of choices...

I think we all would like more new content, not sure what you mean about a new game system. However, I think it is clear form the forums there will be discontent regardless.

More importantly, the "chapter probably needs added value outside of just some more questing. I think Zos set a standard of what to expect they must maintain. Adding something to the game outside of quests and instanced content may be a firm requirement. However, I think it is obvious it cannot be a class every year and it will likely be at least two years before we get another new class.

A new class would be a lot of work, and my understanding is that the Warden was considered a potential class before release and the spells for the new Warden class came largely from that work and the shelved Spellcrafting development.

    You understand incorrectly.

Warden and one other unnamed class were dropped in beta. But you're wrong about it being largely the same as what was originally planned and taken from spellcrafting.

If ZO don't deliver another class with the next chapter it will be because of how poorly received the warden was. Not that I think they did a bad job, but they utterly failed to comprehend how unappealing the idea of a new class is in a game with lots of annoying time-gated character bound grind, i.e. horse training, trait research. Plus inventory upgrades, motifs etc.

Given the way the warden skill lines went your more likely to see a pet attack line for necromancer than a permanent pet summon. Ghosts sailing in like cliff racers, zombies running in and vomiting etc. Undead hands clawing the enemy from below as crowd control.

Given current leaks it's likely to be Q4 new trials, Q1 Transmog, Q2 new chapter and race/skill line.

My money's on akaviri related chapter and necromancy skill line. Given the unreleased akaviri models, that necromancy is illegal in most alliances and they pts motifs that surfaced.

You may want to reread what you posted. As I said, my understanding is that Warden was considered as a potential class before release, and Beta was before release -- so I understood correctly. My belief about the spells coming from Spellcrafting were based on the presentations ZOS gave at conventions in 2014 hyping Spellcrafting. I saw a lot of frost and nature spells in those teaser presentations. It wasn't illogical to guess Warden co-opted some of them. In fact, after reading the link you sent, I see descriptions for spells intended for Spellcrafting like "Ice Cloak" and "Frostbite" that are dead-ringers for spells in the Warden class.

Otherwise, there's a lot of good info in that link, so thanks.

I definitely see more than a few spells that could be cobbled together into a Daedric-oriented skill line that could work similarly to vampire and werewolf.

Only class left really to do would be necromancer.

    You spelled monk wrong.

Also Acrobat, Agent, Archer, Assassin, Barbarian, Bard, Battlemage, Crusader (though, I guess we have Templars), Healer, Knight, Mage, Pilgrim, Rogue, Scout, Spellsword (though, I mean, we do have DKs), Thief, Warrior, and Witchhunter.
