This game needs a makeover 「Realm Reborn style」

Edit + PSA: Stop reading the title and first sentence and assume that I am comparing this game to Final Fantasy 14 realm reborn because I am not. I chose this title because they did a complete change to the game and made tons of improvements which is why this game is currently doing well. If your attention span cannot handle reading more than a tweet than I suggest you try another thread post as the first sentence (well now second sentence) and the title do not sum up my thread.

I liked this game but nowadays I cannot play it and if I even try well I'm just met with things that should have been fixed years ago that are still not fixed.

This game is the devoid of creativity.
Years this game has been out, yet there isn't anything remotely significant with PvP; it's the same old hop in, lag around, attack an outpost, village, keep, etc. There's no tactics the offensive players can use that are new nor are there any tactics the defenders can use that are new. There's no new objective (Heck I made a entire forum post for a mini-game that occurs when one faction has all of the Imperial central keeps + all elder scrolls), no new anything aside from towns and ICP which is dead and empty.

For a game that states that end content is trials and PvP, It is laughable that neither work perfectly nor do they work correctly.

Guilds are pretty much not progressing with anything.
You have a guild and you do not even provide activities in this game for that guild. You pretty much just say "Here make a guild and have fun with privatized trader unless you hire a merchant". Other games have Clan wars where you have a match of 50 v 50 or 100 v 100 in custom fields that provide height advantage, LoS obstacles, and changing terrain.
Runescapes clan wars clan_wars_options_menu.png

Guild halls still non existent (correct me if I'm wrong)
Another game has a guild hall like correct me if I'm wrong but there still is no guild hall system for this game and it's incredible that such a disservice continues.
PSO2 one of many team rooms (guild halls)Hot-Springs-Team-Room.jpg
Runescape which is HUGE for a browser game citadel-island.jpg

Dueling is lackluster.
Dueling was introduced and that was a great starting point but even now nothing has been added. Other games have dueling tournaments where you go to an area with settings that are pre-made such as "No shields", "No ranged attacks", etc. There is still no sort of dueling system where you can stake items/money.
Still no new abilities for starter classes.
This game has been out for what I believe to be four years yet there's no new abilities for the starter classes. You may try to argue "But what about weapon abilities" and "We just got a new class jeez"; Look I don't care about any of those, what I want is new abilities for classes. In PvP or PvE its the same setup, use this ability for maximum X, there's not much diversity in what kills you because there aren't any new abilities or old abilities have been nerfed so badly and unjustly that it is just not used anymore. This game continually amuses me with the fact that it has not received any new skills as if that will keep the games longevity going. PSO2 literally drops new PAs (skills to use for a weapon category) or class specific skills almost every 6 months to a year and they still drop new classes almost every year.

No auction house in site nor a transmogrify system that players desired.
I don't comprehend the fear of auction houses as a person who's played a free 2 play game that has items you can buy with real money and sell it in game; I just don't get it. I guess I haven't played enough of it even though I have over 6200 hours on that game (PSO2) and around 600 hours on neverwinter, 200-300 on diablo, definitely over 10k on runescape I mean I'm measured in years last time I checked lol.
I've always stated that if players are afraid of having prices being seen then the best way to go about it was the Runescape way where the Grand-Exchange hides what players listed X for what but merely gives a min value based on the rate of change of said item. Now it isn't perfect as people can skew the market if they have enough gold to do so but then again so can anyone in it's current form.
hqdefault.jpg

Conclusion
This game lacks creativity, bold steps, and is afraid of player feedback for the most part. I do wanna add that this game has added some stuff like the new mini-game 'Battlegrounds' and Horns of the reach/chapter Morrowind (which is sold only thanks to Nostalgia IMO) but just thinking how long it took to come out and behind a paywall left me thinking WOW. I had high hopes for this game but I just can't see it drawing interests from upcoming games like Destiny 2 and Monster Hunter World.

What irks me about the game is how it static it is. The world never really changes over time with updates, or when you complete quest objectives. Or even when there's an event. Would love to see some decorations for seasonal events in some town or something, maybe more than just the event npc's acknowledging the event.

And if like to see an actual expansion that expands on the main story. All the dlc's, even the Morrowind "chapter" don't tie in to the rest of the game fluidly. I get that they want people to play in whatever style and order they want. But as seen with the Morrowind expansion they sloppily found a way to kick off the main story and generally making a mess of whatever timeline there was for events within the context of the game. This makes it confusing for new players who start out with Morrowind. How are they to know to start the main quest by leaving Vvardenfell?

I get that being required to complete all prior content can get to be a slog once enough required content is brought in. Thats why I quit playing FFXIV because they forced you to play all story content up to the new expansion before you could begin the content from that exoansion. It makes some sense, but at the same time it kind of turns new players from wanting to play when they can't get up to date with where long time players are. It creates a rift between old and new.

Honestly, what I feel that ZOS should do, is have chapters be proper expansions. They new a butt ton of new content, more so than we got out of Morrowind, which felt like a glorified (albeit entertaining) dlc. Have dlc be optional story content and chapters be something more substantial, something that expands upon the running narrative beginning with the main quest which requires players to have completed each chapter before starting the next. Make the world reflect those changes in some way. It gets boring when a town I like to hang out in remains completely unchanged on character that's completed all the content for years and years.

But I guess that's all too much to ask or hope for. Not like any of its gonna happen. Love the game as it is but, I can't help but look at the old trailers and previews from the games early days at the glimpses of what was to come and fantasize about what it could have been. Feels kind of hollow. As if the creative drive behind the game shifted from giving players a fun, perhaps even unique experience to a more business oriented money making venture. I mean I guess that was the point all along, but at least at the beginning it felt like there was some creative heart behind it

This game really does lack things to do. They have added small bits of content via DLC, but those are completed quickly and in the end, it's just more questing. The trials are fun, but we have been running most of those for years. The trials are also short, having only a few bosses. They have a decent amount of dungeons, but again, we have been running most of those for years. Basically, its the "same old same old". It also feels like there is no more progression. Lately I have been wondering why I keep playing, as the game doesn't seem to have much of a direction any more.

Something really does need to change. It would be nice to have a continuation of the main story via a REAL expansion like what WOW does. We also need to have things to do other than running the same dungeons and trials over and over. WOW has tonnes of stuff to do in your "down time", and I feel we need some of that here.

To me, it feels like they really don't have a clue what they want the game to be, and are just tossing out tiny bits of disparate content here and there to try to hold on to players, and that is only going to hold people's interest for so long.

I really hope they have a plan to inject a soul back into this game, give us back the feeling of progression, and come up with new systems that will make us want to log in every day. For me, what they are doing now doesn't accomplish any of that.

All it really needs are updated character models and a continuation to the storyline. I really disliked how you kill the old man and every expansion, dlc later is just random crap.

Still the most beautiful landscapes in any game to date, besides maybe BDO. But it's a kmmo ergo unplayable.

Looks like Horns of the Reach was not enough to slate some ESO Burnout . ZOS is just putting out content like every other theme park MMO does . We will get holiday events soon . It's never enough or fast enough for some .

I've been playing FF XIV for a few months now. The thing that I get most from that game is there's a lot of "busy work" to do in addition to the main stories.

There's lots of dungeons and raids, there are Primal battles, beast tribe daily quests (the Moogles are adorable, Kupo!) Palace of the Dead (a multi storey dungeon that has you starting at lvl 1 and working up through many floors of monsters and bosses) fishing with mechanics and purpose, small scale PVP that's lots of fun as well as larger scale PVP, job quests, easy market selling, housing with functionality, you can pop over to the Gold Saucer to do lots of mini games (Chocobo Racing being my favourite) you can earn cool mounts from extreme difficulty Primals and raids and dungeons, and I'm sure there's lots of stuff I've not mentioned. It seems much more of an MMO and you're never short of something to do.

With ESO, the status quo never changes. They add a DLC, there's a few quests to do (the quality of quest writing here though is far better than FF XIV for the most part) and maybe a trial and that's it. There's no busy work or really fun side things to do. There's definitely a new overarching story happening, but it's taken us nearly two years to almost start it since it was first teased in Orsinium.

I get that ESO is more of an online RPG than an mmo, but does that really exclude having fun side things and busy work to do in game other than a few new quests every quarter? I think the game definitely needs a shake up and a wake up. I get that the devs are on a tight schedule pumping out 3 DLC, a chapter, holiday events and bug fixes, but how about adding something like Palace of the Dead but with Oblivion realms? Mini games? Adding more reasons to be a member of the Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild etc? There's so much that could be done with ESO and Tamriel. Maybe with the upcoming story, have a chapter that changes Tamriel in some significant way? I mean, I'm looking forward to Clockwork City but it'll be more of the same that we've had since release with no significant change or additions. And that's a shame.

I wish they would jump off the deep end and just make a crazy immersing rpg experience. Let us have a heavy weight and presence in the world. Give combat more of a dark and menacing tone. Remake the zones to be as beautiful and atmospheric as the DLC zones. I want huge expansive landscapes riddled with danger and adventure.

I love this game but honestly it's just because I love elder scrolls. If this game wasn't elder scrolls I wouldn't even consider playing it still.

[snip] all you do is point and click that's it, and a ton of mindless missions of go here, oh wait go back there, then go back there again type missions. You also have to understand that Final Fantasy has a very open concept of what you can add. There really isn't a lot of restrictions nor is the environment as enriching or crystal clear scenery that is ESO.
Like a lot of MMO's ESO does suffer with content, but the fact remains that no MMO can keep up with steady content to deliver to people. People finish stuff by far faster than any gaming company can produce content. People *** about obtaining rare gear in drops, well it has to be rare for simple of that end game gear if obtained quickly leaves you with nothing to do.

OP you act like FF14 chugs out stuff on a constant basis all the time, it doesn't, nor is the gaming quality that of ESO. I've played FF14 and it has a ton of small quests, but that is all they are small, forgettable, and tedious little quests that are pointless.

But, in the end it really is just all opinions and each of us has them. Remember OP FF14 been out for awhile now and since day one to now, it's added new content isn't all that much.

"Busy Work" is a weak point in TESO. Yes there are a ton of daily quests that you can do by now, but by now most of the rewards (which are mostly Style Pages) are pretty much useless. One of the best ideas they had for the 2nd anniversary was the addition of the golden reward packages. The "old" dailies need more useful incentives to attract players to run them. Just take a look at the World Boss dailes: even in Vvardenfell few people bother to run these anymore which is a shame.

agree agree agree. every couple of weeks we should bump an idea forum til it becomes a stickie - until they give us a more social, fulfilling and fun game. i love the game but everything is farm, kill , grind- and not a progressive social experience.

    i made a post on IC a few weeks ago saying stuff like this;

immediate porting so we dont have to trek thru cyrodil to get there.
greater incentives to buy with telvar - such as specific items rather than random loot boxes.
better performance- lag and server wise

and wipe out the whole molag bal crap- the flag crap- and start anew with a new story there. its been 3 years- make it something new. my IC is set 3 years after the IC crap. we ve driven out molag bal- or driven him underground- and there is now a truce in IC. all 3 alliances have agreed to rebuild and start a renaissance for the sake of tamriel and culture, in IC - the jewel of cyrodil.

you have 6 districts there- make each a useful area- post war.
    AREA 1
i dont know what the names are- but instead of just pure pvp - it can be a mix- like in oblivion.
so arena- would be the all for one= every man for himself- royal rumble deathmatch arena. - you simply walk into the arena til you die. the longer you and your group can stay alive- the more loot you get. this zone would be the most like current IC- where pvp players can still get int and get their fight fix.
    AREA 1b
another arena would be winner stays in- teams of 3. players line up outside and join groups , not a dungeon finder- but make groups quee up physically outside in boxes of 3- and enter. you win - you stay- you die- you leave. again- the longer you stay in the more gold you make. players can go and become spectators and watch fights- even bet randomly- without rigging fights- you can only choose red or blue- like in oblivion - without knowing which is which.
    AREA 2
IN area 2- the librariam or whatever- make this the knowledge centre. here new players can learn to do dps, heals , tanking from npc. also there would be daily heals, dps and tanking competitions- agains dummies. daily and weekly winners get rewards. deck it out like the library in GOT - a real centre of learning . basically the tutorial zone and play area zone the game never gave us.
    AREA 3
in AREA 3 - you could have the crafting and farming area- where there would be plants of every type all laid out like a massive greenhouse. players can go and learn about each item int he game here- a real school of the game and also buy seeds to plant in their own homes to grown their own nirnroot, etc. potions, alchemy, enchanting , cooking and all the crafts could be represented here and with their own quests and activities.
    AREA 4
in AREA 4- that could be like the drinking tavern area. here could be a real cool social area- where gambling could take place, fist fighting, dice games, and also message boards- simply int he centre of town - make a message board area that is like the forums where guilds can advertise long term ads etc- that cost money. a centralised auction house- where guilds bid for guild traders so we can openly see whats going on- and also where we can buy homes. real estate realtors etc. too much of the games interface goes thru the crown store - WHEN IT SHOULD go thru the game itself. why the *** is there a crown store selling costumes and not a virtual store selling clothes in the shopping district where we can buy costumes from there??!?!
    never understood that.
also as i said- have gambling- you need this and other such social games to help lubricate social activity. allow players to buy drinks- get drunk and stumble about. the game can be social and fun in this area. activate chat bubbles in this area- or voice chat so it can be a real social hub. nightly trivia- anything to liven the game up yo.
    AREA 5
in AREA 5- this could be a shopping area for mounts, weapons, all of the stuff that we see in the game- players can perhaps try certain sets- and theory craft them- but ONLY buy certain weapons in certain traits- fort he completion of the set they have to go out and farm it .so they may only be able to buy a precise weapon of each set from certain armourers. that would be f'ing cool i think. jewellery shops where they sell rings- but only up to blue, etc.
    AREA 6
in AREA 6 and the last area- make this the domestic area- where we have instanced housing. this is prime real estate- to buy centre homes- you need achievements , to buy peripheral homes- you can buy them with gold, and crowns. the current emperor of the game - emporerers of the campaigns at the time, get to live in the centre- in the instanced palace. the game has housing, yes- but why does it feel dead? cos its not a neighbourhood- houses are houses- but theyre not homes yet because theyre in isolation. we havent got the feeling of going into our homes and seeing the same neighbours- of looking over the fence and seeing whats going on, of seeing the bigger house and wanting to move into it, there isn't any social incentive- or community. install this- and i guarantee housing and housing itemisation - the want to move into the hottest real estate int eh game- IC will boom.

the sewers would remain the sewers- PVP and underground fighting- but instead of just random pvp- it would be territory based- give players zones they fight for - fighting for every tunnel and archway.

yeah- i think alot about this game and how to make it better- A, because i work in the field of entertaiment- and gaming, but mainly because i love this game and think its such a wasted opportunity to make something cool. IC has always been the centre of cyrodil,. culturally and lore wise, and now its being wasted.

time to wipe the slate clean- wipe the city- and start again. the ideas I've suggested would be jarring to alot but would offer alot to the long term health of the game i think . and something that should have been done from the start. how can we have an elder scrolls game without the IC that we played thru in oblivion- and an arena where we can go from nothing to champion?! Kvetch arena and the storm haven one are spectacular disappointments. this is where they can right the ship and the shop.

bottom line is- the game we all love is getting stale. Morrowind was just more of the same- we need new thinking and a new approach. the questing in this game has always been lame- but where the game can thrive is thru social activity and commuinity. we re not asking for zos to do that- just to give us the tools to do that ourselves. an area we can build neighbourhoods, tools to make custom matches , leaderboards and events. then watch the game truly blossom.

if a game can do that- it dosent even need to produce content- the community will do that for them. thats what i want zos to grasp in their strategy and approach. making crown crate items and junk is a very short term and short sighted approach to game making. what they should be focused on- is WORLD making.

w- for example even a simple thing such as thieves trove chests. instead of making them RNG spawns and respawns- allow us to put things into the chests- drop offs and the like- like in skyrim. not for storage- but the games potential for things like that in the comminity would be aweomse, treasure hunts, easter egg hunts, trivia. thats just a simple change that can have huge huge impacts.

in essence- alloowing us to shape our own world- things like message boards- in game- allowing players to graffiti or write commuity/guild messages - in public spaces ,would allow us to organise and do plan events. my partner works in a field closely related to town planning, and the elements that make a good town - arent too dissimilar to those that make a good virtual world.

    - social activity- social areas- good flow of traffic, economy, etc, etc- entertainment

ESO's world feels so small because of fast travel. When standing at wayshrine, you can easily see other wayshrines in near vicinity. There should be one wayshrine per zone preferably in the main city. Fast travel makes gameworld feel small and insignificant. Of course there would be complaining because people want to get everywhere as fast as possible to burn through content. Exploration is a joke. Fast travel, invisible walls and everything to explore is marked on radar when you are near.

Duh, really? Then go make a group/guild, take command and make new tactics. I'm thinking you mixed tactics with mechanics, don't.

That's a bit of a high demand, seeing that the normal pvp leaves much to be desired and taking into account the game engine. Also guild activities... if the Guild Officers are not lazy *** they can and will come up with something. And to finish on this one, ESO moves ever onward towards casualness... A casual gamer in a HIGHLY organized, HIGHLY specialized LARGE group? Nope. It would just splinter this community even further...

I agree with almost everything laid down.

One thing I think it would help the game to be more dynamic and "alive" , even more attractive to more potential buyers, would be events like Guild Wars 2 or Final Fantasy XIV have.

You see, in Guild Wars 2 are the "Living Stories". From time to time the developers add Story segments that are only available in a certain period of time. These segments are used to go forward with the Storyline. After it ends we can access it trough a Journal.

In Final Fantasy XIV I'm CONSTANTLY receiving emails detailing new events, new stuff, changes here and there.

I'm loving ESO, it's a great MMORPG, largely complete and with a fabulous narrative. But it needs to feel more "alive" and dynamic!

Honestly the thing that bugs me the most is that when I exterminate a cult of, by example, Bloodthorn cultists and save the whole region the NPCs tell me "the land is restoring" but no matter what there are still huge gross thorns everywhere and cultists just casually hanging out even though I murdered every last one of them. This makes the game look extremely static and it's kind of disappointing that the villagers can't get on with their daily business and comment on your deeds or thank you when you pass by that village some time after.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Give me pet battles and the ability to tame cosmetic pets.
Have the cities and towns actually CHANGE during the holidays.
Change the holidays to be less about "KILL X" and more about the actual holiday, with mounts and pets dropping instead of shoving them to the crownstore! You can do a half and half "These mounts drop from holiday packages while these are in the crown store"
Actually add the ability to get mounts that aren't horses IN GAME.
More in game cosmetics that you don't sell in the crown store please! My end game in MMOs is always cosmetics and it's not encouraging when every new outfit is Crown store exclusive. Gives me nothing to do end game.

Why should they bring out a auction house? The whole point of guild traders is to not have a global auction house, but this system instead. This isn't a issue of the game lacking something but being different.

They are currently working a transmogrification(I hate that word) system btw.

I think "One Tamriel" was the "A Realm Reborn" of ESO, although to a much lesser degree.

To OP. None of those things you listed were reasons FF14 proceeded with "A Realm Reborn". They weren't even main features of the revamp.

Well, sort of. Realm Reborn was a complete revamp of the game itself, and they included that in the lore.

Tamriel Unlimited was like that in terms of some of the game systems, but the lore was maintained the same.

    For example:

    - In FFXIV the lore and the game itself changed. There are a lot of in game events in a much smaller scale than Real Reborn, but they are there.
    - In Guild Wars 2 there was a Story event that destroyed one, if not the most important city in the game (Lions Arch). It was only restored months later and trough quests that involved the whole servers

I find that ESO is missing these setpieces.

The story of the main quests is good, really good. But it is static, nothing changes in the world upon completion.

If ESO had these kind of events, even if once per month, that would make the game much much better and the world would be more of a living world instead of a static one.

It would be nice to see what Zenimax has to say about this. Or even about the future of ESO.

[snip] and to all the people who read the title and read the first sentence like [snip]; Nowhere in my damn article did I mention anything final fantasy 14 realm reborn has done. I showed examples of what other games like Runescape and PSO2 do, just because my title references Final Fantasy 14 realm reborn does not mean I made a comparison as I provided no example of what they have done better.

Jesus I know reading my thread must have been annoying but if you're just gonna read the title and the first sentence, then just ignore my thread.

[Edit to remove insulting remark and naming.]

I agree ☝️ I think that the more should be focused on the main story give us a new powerful threat that needs to be dealt with.

What ESO needs from my own perspective right now? 2 simple things...1 acces to the blocked eidetic memory collectibles!!!!!! and more gore/dismember/death animations/ragdolls and so on... I really enjoyed decapitations and brutalizing opponents in skyrim and yes I know it is an mmo and also I am playing it since 1st beta! and I love it...I just need some more blood splatter :D so even an option for people to turn it on or off can work since I am aware most people run this game on pebble-corn pc and not nuclear reactors as well...I also agree with the guy who said the zones need a revamp just like the dlc ones...also have you ever thought to remove the 398578398593859385 loading screens from in between zones? every thing you interact with is a damn loading screen...but in the meantime...

Taking the title in the most literal sense I couldn't disagree more.

A Real Reborn turned XIV into a copypasted WoW clone that has followed the same content cycle of progression for years now. If you think ESO is stale when it's adding new systems (level scaling, thieving, Dark Brotherhood, housing that is much better than XIV's) then you'll hate to see what XIV has added since ARR launched. XIV's world compared to ESO feels way too lifeless.

And again, maybe taking the title too literally, but XIV is pretty much worse in every aspect you complain of. Guilds haven't received anything for years (and actual control for Free Company banking is horrible), the PVP in XIV is embarrassingly bad and the Glamour system is terrible. I can't imagine the upcoming transmog system coming to ESO being any worse.

Not sure what game would be a good comparison for the requests you're suggesting but it's definitely not XIV.
