VMA weapon enchants

So I've read a lot of different answers over the internet and I'm still not sure so I figured I would ask here.

When you enchant a VMA weapon, do you lose the ability enchant and the weapon/spell damage? I've heard both sides one saying it only changes the ability enchant and others saying it changes both ability and the weapon/spell damage. I would like to change my battle axe to something other than the crit charge boost but I do not want to lose the extra weapon damage that comes with it. Could someone clarify?

If you enchant it you will lose the extra weapon damage. If you equip a poison you still keep the extra weapon damage.

I accidentally enchanted a two-hander once and it became instantly useless. Now I lock all my good trait VMa weapons.

Dont ever enchant VMA weapons or you'll lose the reason they exist.

You would regret as the VMA weapon would be useless
