I'm fairly new to the game. For a while I only played casual and recently became interested in doing endgame content at some point. With that in mind, I decided to make a new character.
I looked for quick ways to level, and most of them required a friend to do effectively (which I don't currently have). But one tactic I found that I was able to pull off on my own was killing the NPC's in the gambling community in Reaper's March. Apparently, I had no idea of how the bounty system worked when I started leveling like this, because I originally thought that when you were killed by the guards, your bounty was paid in full. As I found out, when you're killed, the guards take your money and stolen items, and your bounty is reduced by the amount of gold taken. So the only way to get rid of the bounty is to pay it off or let it decay.
Well, I have a bounty of over 4 million gold, and it would be great if I didn't have to make a new character. If I let the bounty decay without any help, it would take upwards of a full (real time) year for this bounty to fully decay. I would honestly be fine with this if the skill Swiftly Forgotten worked while logged off. With the skill maxed out, it would take about 2 months for the bounty to fully decay. This is much more reasonable to me. That's still a fairly extensive time period to be on the guard's radar while having to dedicate 4 skill points to an, otherwise, less useful skill for the entirety of the 2 months.
So I'm fine with the bounty system as is, but I think there should be a better way of getting rid of an extremely high bounty; and I also think that adjusting Swiftly Forgotten to allow it to work while the character is offline is a fair way to accomplish this.
