HOTR - Best gear for Sorc? Alcast build?

Hi guys,

Checking Alcast' build you can see he has suggested using 5x juli, 5x necro/netch along with 1x monster set (iceheart) .... I'm not convinced as I've seen a few people boast about the DPS from Maw of infernal (2 piece) along with 4 piece moondancer, IA etc...

What are your thoughts? Anybody tested this further? Thanks!

maw of the infernal got nerfed, can no longer crit. and alcasts build is just one of many, it works for him and he decided to share it. for me personally, i will be sticking to a similar set up to what i had morrowind: 2 ilambris, 5 necro, 3 moondancer jewelry, moondancer lightning staff infuses front bar, maelstrom lightning nirnhoned backbar. if going non pet, switch the necro to netch/julianos. apprentice if group is optimized or lover if group is not

You will probably have to do some testing and see what works best for you and your group

Maw of the Infernal can no longer crit as of 3.1.7. So I don't think it will play a role any longer and is back in the trash heap.

Oh right, I didn't realise that actually, so yeah I also have 2x ilambris, 4x moondancer (I'm not sure if to use precise or infused for main bar??) and 5x necro ... I do like the pet build, I also have netchs but I do think I prefer the pet build...

"apprentice if group is optimized or lover if group is not" - what do you mean by optimized?

So rather than ilambris which got nerfed, what would be another decent monster set to use then? I heard Valk Skoria was also performing well? So confused!

it lost like 250 dps (if both fire and light get activated) still good imo

Infused front bar - nirnhoned/precise back bar
no meta anymore you can use:

5 Juli/4moondancer or aether (aether outdps's moondancer on first 10million then they almost equalize)
    5 sorrow/5 juli/1 ice heart
    5 sorrow/5 juli/1 domihius
5 BSW (Fire rune build preferably), 5 sorrow, 1 ice heart or domi
    5 TBS/4 aether/monster set or 1 domi and 1 iceheart
    5 Necro/5 sorrow/1 iceheart (if pet build)

Pick and choose what you want, difference is going to be niche.

Thanks again! This is great information.

Crit. Its very beneficial to have a 5 piece set that provides atleast 1 spell critical bonus in it.

    Julianos has 1600 crit bonus
    Necro gives 0 crit

That can be deal breaker for many and for me its always been like that same reason why i dont run spriggan it gives 0 crit.

Ah right OK cool :) So you could still run 1x pet with the Julianos build or would that not be good now? The Volatile creature?

Or would it be best to use a different skill now? I'll get to crafting Julianos later now I know this :) I have 3x gold aether jewelry but I cannot find the staff so I will just use Moondancer 4 piece right now.. I think I have infused somewhere..

A few people last night were saying to use Precise on front bar? Or Sharpened? Rather than infused?

I need to still get maelstrom bar for the backbar as the traits i've got have been useless. Thanks again!

The problem is there was clear OP meta for so so long people want the new Meta, but its chasing unicorns as there are more diverse options now, and chasing that one set will probably offer 0.1% as opposed to the 4-5% before

This is the second post regarding doubt on an Alcast build not sounding right today, its a weird hybrid of wanting meta, not trusting / not wanting to theory craft.

Yeah that is true to some extent; I understand that there may be several viable builds but just a point in the right direction would be useful. Not sure if infused/precise would be better on front bar?

The only reason I'm asking is because I almost can't be bothered to farm completely different sets, I have had great results with the following build (below) last patch, and I guess what I'm trying to get is whether I need to just change the monster set or change sharpened front bar to either infused/precise or whether I need to get juli.. I think I need to get juli 5 piece..

    Set I use:

    5 x necro, divines
    2 x ilambris, divines
4 piece moondaner, incl. Sharpened moondancer staff
back bar - random sharpened staff, I have maelstrom inferno infused/precise... Not sure if I should still use a random precise/nirn/infused lightning sharp? Is inferno any good on the back bar?

    Thanks!

Exactly, spider cultist often is overlooked, but it boosts your heavy and light attacks by staggering 450 spell damage as well as force pulse/clench/wall of elements. For Maelstrom 5xspider cultist+5x elegance is a really good heavy attack build and resource management is a joke. Main thing to remember here is 35k dps is enough 4 everything, with all trials buffs that 35k becomes 49-58k dps, 8x dps = 55kx8 = 435k dps a second = rakkhat fight = 70,000,000/435,000 = 160 second fight (2 minutes, 40 seconds thats not even close to Lunar) But how many people can maintain that dps while following mechanics?

Julianos is a good choice because you can craft infused and nirnhoned staff and not waste 100 hours in trials looking for that infused/precise aether staff that will give you maybe 1k dps increase, (just using it as an example), by the time new patch comes out = it might be obsolete. Once you are hitting 35k (self-buffed applying your own ele) you are ready for any content in the game, now start working on your positioning, survivability, review your group composition (for example off-tank running alkosh+torugs+infused crusher is a great dps booster this patch giving everyone 5-6k penetration) Main tank then can focus on either ulti gen/or his own survivability (in that giving everyone larger shields).

I ended up leaving it exactly like before patch. 5x Juli (for undaunted bonus) + 5x Necro + 1x Ilambris.
I swapped traits on my staves though, not a very serious investment when you can just craft it.

Havn't made any real test for alternative sets yet, even though I got most of the relevant sets banked but not golded.
Mathwise a pet sorc just need a lot of magicka for good pet damage, so it's tough to swap it out. Also there is quite some bonuses to magicka multipliers in this setup, which make any bonus magicka from items quite valuable compared to stacking crit or spell dmg for example.
On a sidenote it is interesting that your mundus stone (and food) don't get the effect of your CP magicka multiplier (+20% at max) in which case spell damage or penetration seem a wiser choice.

Anyway it works for me, but stamina seems to be pulling much better DPS at the moment.

Haha, they don't talk about that scenario, we all like massive numbers but even thinking about maintaining them at a 100% uptime is silly when all things are taken into account.

The spider cultist + netch combo hits like a truck i was realy careful about cp allocation as well and because i run 2x precise staffs with shock enchants (cant get my hands on an infused one at the moment) i see huge and consective ticks each pushing 9k each when heavy attacking for magicka sustain and keep in mind this hasn't been run with a healer with spc buff yet either as i have only been running it with friends doing hard mode vet dungeons and our healer is a sorc with a heal/tank build, I've pushed the build as far as i can from my end but i am so looking forward to spc/worm buffs etc...

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

Why do they refuse to let you use pet build? Even only using Volatile Familiar?? With the correct gear?

Why does your trial guild refuse to let you run a pet build? It's by far the best available build for a sorc, and there are only few bosses where you can't use it. You don't even use necropotence anymore, just julianos instead, so you don't even need to swap around sets when you can't use it on some bosses.
