VMA Weapons

I have seen many streamers and build makers using VMA weapons when:
1. They don't use the skill that actually activates the special enchant (like Crit Rush and Stampede on 2h)
2. They use poisons (which suppresses the enchants)
So my question is, am I missing something? Wouldn't they be better off with crafted weapons instead?

Vma weapons also give you a bonus, regardless if you're using the skill or not. For example, the resto gives crit even if I don't use mutagen.

So yes, technically, if you have the correct weapon and trait it's better to use it. But considering how hard it is to get a good trait it's usually not worth it.

Depends on the set up I guess.

From my understanding the poisons don't suppress the the Spell/Weapon damage part of the enchantment, so they're still stronger than a standard no-set weapon.

That's what I thought, but I get greater wep and spell damage bonus with a crafted enchant on a crafted weapon.

Actually doesn't. Well, at least the Weapon/Spell/Critical buffs.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

Yes, I get that. But what about stamblades using a maelstrom 2h but gap-closing without stampede or crit-rush?

Maybe ask the people making the builds? Most of them have twitter accounts so you could ask via a quick tweet there.

I can't speak for how others make their builds, only what mechanics I know.

Those still give extra weapon damage just for being equipped.

If you're running only one 5pc set and a monster set, then you'll want a vMA weapon because it's better than any other option. If you're running 2x 5pc sets and only 1pc of a monster set, then you'll want your weapon to be in one of those 5pc sets instead.

In a 1x 5pc set setup, the 2h bar would typically be called a 'dead slot' weapon, i.e. a weapon that isn't adding toward a 5pc set bonus.

    I use a vMA 2H with a a poison equipped in PvP.

As other people have pointed out, the weapon damage is still active and not suppressed by the poison.

The second reason is the Merciless Charge enchantment is affected by Battle Spirit. So I get better damage and better burst by using a damage health poison than I do by proccing Merciless Charge.

If I am correct, for example, desto staff give you more damage using wall of elements. However if you use poison you lose this effect, but, you still get the increase in damage listed on the enchantment.

Wow, had no idea! Thanks a lot for this! And to think that I have the weapons but only used them when I slotted the connected skill!

they still get the weapon damage 189 bonus for just using it- and that doesn't go away when they slot poison too. still a fine looking weapon too.
