Pelinals and Dunmer Battlemage DKS Question

Long story short guys, how does Pelinals work exactly? From my understanding, it gives you the higher of the two stats for any ability that you use, magicka OR stamina. Now, does this mean that effectively with 64 stamina I can spam even the magicka-based DKS skills (or, vice-versa spam the melee weapon skills as a mag-based DKS) and what, aside from obviously a much smaller resource pool and not being able to say restore magicka while using 2h heavy attacks is going to hold me back? I really really want to make a proper battlemage in true Dunmer style, but it does seem that it's kinda impossible to be effective. Can anyone shed more light on this set, give tips on what else can be used and generally advise if it's better to go full stam or full magicka with this kind of build?

Short answer is, it's pretty much always better to spec fully into one resource type. Your resources act like spell/weapon damage at the rate of about 10.5:1. So even though Pelenial's would let you get extra damage of the other type, your resource pool would also have an effect on the potency of those types of skills, as well as limiting the amount you could cast.

Say you have a character that specs mostly magicka and uses Pelenial's:
40k Magicka, 2k Spell Damage
10k Stamina, 2k Weapon Damage
2000 x 10.5 = 21k
61k equivalent Magicka damage
31k equivalent Stamina damage

Now if you tried to balance your attribute points between both stats, the numbers would be closer, but then all of your skills would be mediocre, instead of some being strong and some being weak.

The nature of resource pools being tied to damage potential is what ultimately kills the real effectiveness of hybrid builds. You will always do more damage specing fully into one resource type.

It only makes weapon and spell power the same.
Which ever one is higher is the number both will be.

Damn, that's what I thought. Yeah, basically going into both pools insta-kills your viability since you are directly taking points off from your max. Sigh, this is really quite annoying tbh, they could easily fix these things and add passives/special traits which would allow for, say, melee weapons to restore magicka on heavy hits, or a trait which would add up your magicka and stamina for damage purposes, but with penalties so that it's not obscene for races like Dunmer. Not saying it'd be easy and the game would be balanaced in a week, but it's worth a shot... the current state of affairs is really doing a number on build diversity, at least effective build diversity xD

Use Shackebreaker. It's somewhat similar but gives you both resources, magicka and stamina. Having extra from your non-main resource pool is more useful than having spell/weapon damage.

The only thing I was able to do effectively with Pelinal's was a hybrid, stamina-heavy Warden healer. You could probably also do a tank with it. But forget about DPS.

Yup, seems logical, an Imp tank that could have just the odd magicka morph to lighten the rotation load is about the best you can hope for. It's a real shame and I seriously think they need to consider addressing this, the "meta" is way too narrow in this game atm.

TBH, you can build a semi-viable pelinal's hybrid dunmer sorc splitting stamina and magicka and slotting inner light and Bound armaments, but that forces you to run them on both bars, leaving you with 3 slots for dmg, healing and utility per bar.

I've been messing around with a Pelinal's magblade recently. Here's a bit of what I discovered:

Light and heavy attacks are almost totally based on your weapon damage(or spell damage for staves). Most skills have a conversion ratio of 10.5 stam/mag=1 weapon/spell damage. Lights and heavies(also bash I think) have a conversion ratio of 40 stam/mag=1 weapon/spell damage. This means one of the ways to take advantage of Pelinals is on a sword using magicka character. Stack magicka and weapon damage, and you're doing fine on magicka skills and light/heavy attacks.

Forward Momentum is an interesting skill for Pelinals magicka builds. As long as your weapon damage is higher than your spell damage(use weapon damage enchants), it basically functions as Major Sorcery+root/snare removal/immunity. The way most magicka builds get the snare/root removal is Mist Form, which comes with a fair amount of drawbacks. I enjoy it on my magblade, as it's a way to get Major Sorcery without destealthing myself(the only other way is potions, this allows me to use potions as more of a resource recovery tool than a pre-fight buff).

It's easier to stack Magicka than to stack Stamina. It's easier to stack Weapon Damage than it is to stack Spell Damage. Thus generally you'll want to go Magicka/Weapon damage on a Pelinal's build. I'm sure there's builds where the opposite is true though.

2H currently offers the exact same damage benefits to a magicka build as dual wield. Dual wield was nerfed a couple of patches ago.

I've been playing around with it too. Kristofer has an excellent build that utilizes the 2h ultimate with going primarily magicka build, as it provides a ton of self healing and still has good offense.

I am planning on adjusting my DK to utilize a similar, but different build to make her stronger in both PvE and PvP.
