Depends on the set up I guess.
From my understanding the poisons don't suppress the the Spell/Weapon damage part of the enchantment, so they're still stronger than a standard no-set weapon.
I have seen many streamers and build makers using VMA weapons when:
2. They use poisons (which suppresses the enchants)
So my question is, am I missing something? Wouldn't they be better off with crafted weapons instead?

Maybe ask the people making the builds? Most of them have twitter accounts so you could ask via a quick tweet there.Depends on the set up I guess.

Yes, I get that. But what about stamblades using a maelstrom 2h but gap-closing without stampede or crit-rush?
