On console I did it in order to bar swap better. Default bar swap is d pad which is out of the way meaning you can't move and bar swap at the same time. Jumping preserves momentum in that direction so you can bar swap while moving.

I have since switch my bar swap buttons but I still jump out of habit. I also find it helps when people try to LoS over small hills or ledges.
