Seeing that global message pop up in the middle of your screen

"XX has picked up XX scroll"

What you dont want to see is "XX has dropped XX scroll"

That's a lot of pressure for one man to take

    It depends.

I've run a scroll from enemy temples back to our keeps. Sometimes its smooth sailing, other times you get chased half way down the map. Makes for good AP for the guys following you.

My favorite scroll takes are when, guy picks up scroll, runs for his life with a small team behind him. Then there is this big, massive, angry army behind his back. Scroll guy hides in one of our keeps since he can't run it back under all that pressure, massive army sieges keep and chaos erupts. :) Good times for all.

I've witnessed at least one case where the person who picked the scroll has dropped it on purpose in places where it couldn't be retrieved. Once they threw themselves in the lava crack that runs trough Chorrol, and another time - not sure if that was intentional as well but it looked like it - in the slaughterfish infested waters near the Alessia bridge.

Oh yea, I've seen this as well in EU PC Sotha Sil where they drop it in the lava. Hilarity ensues in zone chat the moment that happens.

I have also seen multiple times that someone ninja's the scroll and goes to camp an enemy resource to farm AP. Sad people..

Scroll farming can be taken to even greater heights. Siege an enemy keep and take it in there, then farm the arriving defenders. Didn't work out yesterday though on PC EU Sotha Sil ;)

I can't figure out why no one has dedicated orc sorc scroll runners in Fiord's anymore, with Windrunner.. It saves everyone soooooo much time, rather than derping after some magicka build slow-walking it across the map.

It sure does. Orc racial + leather armor passive + minor expedition + major expedition + fiord's +15% + windrunner's +2% really adds up. I still keep a dedicated build for this despite not running a scroll in forever. But ready for when it comes up.

I had just made a runner about a week before the nerf, orc sorc with fiords and Jailbreaker waiting. But then came the nerf and I'm not motivated to continue leveling up... May still level up "Speed Force" but for now she's taking an infinite earths nap...

You should still keep your runner guy/build though. It's still very useful if your group / guild is planning on taking scrolls. Outside of that, I use to just keep runner gear on my Stamina toons.

Might need to re-visit Willows path once Horns of the Reach patch comes to console.

Used to do naked scrollmons in Einherjar, with 1/2 the group in stealth waiting to ambush those who arrived to take the scroll back. Good times in 2014.

I love watching the crowd of "protectors" escorting the scroll runner. Scroll runner decides to hand of scroll to someone in his group, but most of the randoms following him don't know this. Runner jumps off the bridge to die, and let other person get scroll. What was funny was watching a full dozen others jump off the bridge and die in a huge lemming death-fall. Two of us were rezzing people as fast as we could but a few poor fools gave up and blood-ported away. I never laughed so hard in my life.

You can get the scroll out of the chorrol lava.

Also retrievable from the slaughterfish near Allesia bridge.

About which I have a story. A long one...

My sniper nightblade, Ars, is a somewhat grumpy fisher and when people disturb the fish he is trying to catch, it doesn't always end well. You see, fishing isn't easy for him, and he imagines that perhaps fish can stealth as he can, so his patience becomes thin. At any rate, although he was mystified as to why they did this, about 10 dominion soldiers came by his secret fishing hole near Alessia bridge. They dropped a scroll in slaughterfish and ran off. Ars started to reflect on whether the scroll was having an effect on the local fish. Being Argonian, he easily swam to a nearby island and began investigating.

After a bit, Ars briefly debated picking up the scroll but decided he was less interested in the affairs of mer and men than in fishing. However, before he could swim back to the fishing hole, the soldiers that dropped the scroll came back to retrieve it. In order to show respect and courtesy, Ars decided to claim a different, nearby island.

Unfortunately, as you can imagine, having 10 people stomping around near his fishing hole tested Ars' typically firm grip on serenity. As he recounts it, he saw red and doesn't really remember much of what ensued. After the fight the soldiers and the scroll were in the water, along with a number of green arrows. He thinks maybe the soldiers were sleeping in the water, which not an uncommon aquatic activity for Argonians. He decided to take the arrows as it looked like they had been discarded.

One Dominion soldier, a Breton templar, had not gone to sleep and Ars thought the templar would wake his friends. To his great surprise, the Breton decided not to wake the soldiers, but instead to swim over to Ars' new island while his compatriots sank into the muck and disappeared. Ars decided to ignore him and go about his business. Unfortunately, more dominion soldiers appeared, stomping about in the water, and again he had no memory of what ensued. However, he does recall that out of nowhere, a blinding flash struck him and he was flung to a different island by the Breton. Shocked, Ars dusted himself off. However, the templar was apparently not finished with the unseemly confrontation, and began to swim to Ars' island. In a fit of anger, Ars contemplated how he should respond to such an affront while the templar reached shore and healed himself.

After exchanging harsh words with the Templar, who eventually fell asleep, Ars turned his attention back to fishing, but apparently more soldiers had arrived. Someone had picked up the scroll from the shore of the original island where there were 5-6 dominion soldiers milling about. Ars was weary of the affair and decided to leave, but before he did, one of the soldiers began stomping around at the water's edge. He again can't recall what followed but after a while he noticed that the water was again filled with sleeping Dominion soldiers, the damnable scroll, a pile of arrows, and unusually fat slaughterfish

At that point, he though it appropriate to resume fishing. After carefully considering what bait to use, Ars decided to swim back to his secret spot when what appeared to be the entire Dominion army began to funnel towards the island near the scroll. Yet again Ars cannot recall what ensued, but when all was said and done, he lay sleeping with his pockets filled with alliance coin, perhaps the most he had ever received in such a short time. An untargetabble informed him that as he lay on the ground, and for the next 10 minutes or so, various Dominion soldiers swam through the slaughterfish to do horrible things to him as he slept. One stayed the entire time. The untargetable said that near the end he assisted these uncouth, peasants in falling asleep. Which explained why bodies covered Ars (he initially thought perhaps it was the weekend and he had drun to much sap). The untargetable kindly took his sleepiness away and after thanking him for his kindness, Ars pondered returning to fishing. He ultimately decided that the mood had changed and decided to head north for a bit.

Scroll battles can be very fun, as they take fights to more uncommon and barren parts of the map. Makes a nice change from the constant push and pull keep zerging.

Some experienced players deliberately take Scrolls not to capture them, but to lure fights away from the monotonous bridge and outpost fights. And then annihilate all the headless chickens as they come their way.
They usually fortify themselves in hard to reach positions and it turns into a mini-fortress siege fight. It's a breath of fresh air, honestly.
    Sometimes, I dream about...cheese...
