Why doesn't armour and weapons stack?

I'm sick of scrolling through five pages worth of swords and helms. This stuff stacks neither in inventory nor in the bank. Is this intentional?

✭✭✭✭✭As for stacking to take up less space, I have never seen armor and weapons stack in any MMO. Even for being able to look though armor and weapons, I do not see the point of stacking since I rarely have two of the same piece with the same enchant and trait.
If you are merely speaking of being able to sort through inventory better, ESO does have a very poor system. There are addons for PC that makes it easier, but it would be nice to have some real management.0
