What would cause you to leave ESO v2 because the last one was a problem

iconofgrace

Soul Shriven
So what would drive you to leave the game?
Bugs that have existed since beta?
Money grabs?
Lack of interesting content?

Lets hear it.

I've been losing interest in the game for a while. For multiple reasons. I'll still play but I don't enjoy it quite like I used to. Anyway, some reasons:

-Every patch turns the game into a farm fest. I just don't have the time or the desire to run the same dungeons 100+ times to get whatever the new BiS gear is.
-The two new dungeons feel like the same thing with different themes. The Minotaur boss fight in Bloodroot Forge is basically the same thing as the Minotaur boss fight in Falkreath Hold.
-Something I'm sure everyone has seen: the chest doesn't open in Skyreach after killing waves of trash. Not game-breaking, but annoying.
-You cast an ability, only it doesn't cast, and you die. Then, when you resurrect, it casts. Good timing.
-I've had multiple quests break over the 2-ish years I've played. Especially in dungeons. Can't complete them, so restart the quest and hope it doesn't break next time.
-The money-grabs. I don't consider myself a gambler, but I've wasted a ton of money on crown crates. Because the odds are stupidly against you.
-Also, the thing with Morrowind not being included with ESO Plus rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I didn't personally care. I usually have ESO Plus and buy the DLC/Expansions/Whatever anyway.

There are plenty of other things. Poor optimization. Lag. Broken sets. Broken abilities. More things than I care to list, really. I loved this game at one point. I've spent tons of money on it and have put tons of time into it... but there are a lot of things, big and small, that have been broken for a long time. I can't stay interested in it anymore.

I've slowly been losing interest in the game.

The combat is broken. Constantly being CC'd even when I should have immunity. Abilities not casting, even my light attacks not casting. Abilities casting right after I resurrect without my input. To be fair it happens when I cast an ability, it doesn't cast, and I die, resulting in it being cast when I resurrect - but that is still an issue.

Quests being broken. So many times I've had to reset quests because the quest gets stuck even when I KNOW that I've done the quest correctly. Maelstrom Arena is included in this - it'll also get broken as well.

...Maelstrom Arena. All of the combat bugs become even more apparent during a Maelstrom Arena run. Abilities (including light attacks) not casting, CC being broken in that you're not granted CC immunity or your character doesn't have the CC animation, so you stand there trying to do anything and you cannot because you don't realize you've even been CC'd. Getting attacked by AoE (or really, any attack) even when clearly being out of it/roll-dodging out of it. All of this has happened to me in my run an hour or two ago, and it happens every single run.

Being stuck in a heavy attack. This can result in me either running slowly until I cast another heavy attack (didn't realize this was even a proper fix until a guildmate informed me to do it so I could walk normally) or even dying due to being stuck in the heavy attack animation. When I let go of my left mouse button, I expect the heavy attack animation to stop. Not continue.

Reoccurring bugs. Bugs that have been here since Beta and worsened. Bugs that are supposed to be fixed as outlined by the Patch Notes but still aren't fixed. Something being fixed and other things getting broken in the process. Lightning heavy attacks for example are no longer counting for the Merciless Resolve proc since the Horns of the Reach patch, but inferno staves still count... Never seen it in the patch notes, so this doesn't seem intentional - just another bug added to the list. Also going to add that Funnel Health (probably the other morph as well) still isn't fixed, in that if you previously didn't have it healing you/ticking, and you land a killing blow on an enemy with the ability, you don't receive the heal over time.

The Public Test Server is another thing that bothers me. Not having the server itself, but it seems that every major patch, bugs are reported - BIG bugs, exploits, etc - yet they're not fixed when the patch is made to the live server. Why? What is the point of the Public Test Server if it's not for identifying and fixing bugs, exploits, etc? For example, the No Death achievement is broken on one of the dungeons. Isn't that something that kind of, I don't know, has been reported on the PTS and also a big deal since it contributes to achievements towards a collection item? It's one of the reasons why I still haven't even touched the veteran versions of these dungeons yet - I don't want to achieve something I didn't even achieve!

I'm getting a bit off-topic just listing all of these bugs and issues I have, but it's still on-topic because they all contribute to my growing disinterest in playing the game. I'm wondering why I still even play; I want to love and enjoy playing the game. I really do, I've spent so much time playing these last two years. It's the game I've played the most! Overland content, quests, overall easy content is still enjoyable to me, since it doesn't rely a whole lot on heavy combat. Which is great of course, some of the quests in the game are enjoyable to do and the dialogue, lore, etc is great. However when it comes to end-game content, I just can't enjoy playing it anymore because there are so many combat issues.

I very much enjoyed reading the last thread so I encourage anyone reading or participating in this thread to describe their disappointments with this game in detail and in a rational, reasoned way avoiding any cheap shots or generalizations as to not give the moderation team any ammunition to censor this discussion.

Of course, if moderation just doesn't want to allow a criticism thread, they can just decide it is "bashing" and shut it down regardless of civil discussion and high effort on our part.

I think that our inability as a community to vent our frustrations and express our criticisms is one of the major reasons people leave this game. When so many valid criticisms are expressed here are are either ignored or censored, it creates a lot of bad will for the development team. Even though the development team wasn't even involved, usually just overzealous moderation.

But it is extremely frustrating clicking on a thread with a little Z next to it, expecting a developer response and finding out its just a mod telling people to be nice.

Its also extremely frustrating that one acerbic person can jump in your thread and cause a flame war and get your thread locked even when everyone else is being civil.

Almost every way we as a community can have lasting impact via communication on these forums is suppressed or against the TOS and there is usually no redress to moderation action because discussing INDIVIDUAL moderation actions is against the TOS. (This is why I am talking in general).

When the rules are so strict, so arbitrary, and the rules say you cant discuss the rules, you get people realizing that they aren't being listened to, and quitting happens.

For me the problem is many things:

-game is too much of a farm fest and lateral progression

-dungeon finder is dumb... so tired of getting queued with players under cp160 for vet dungeons (should require minimum cp160 and full purple gear with at least 1 complete 5-piece set -- basically a gearscore check)

-PvP is beyond broken in so many ways... I could write a thesis on this.

-dumb Zenimax censoring posts criticizing them. This is a big one.

The only reason I'm currently playing this game is to not upset my raid group. I don't care about the gameplay anymore, I only care about the groups success. I just slot full support sets and log out after raid, anytime I'm logged into the game outside of raiding is trying to make my MagDK viable, but there currently is no reason to play it.

I haven't quit, but life got in the way. My ESO+ didn't renew because I forgot to put funds in the bank. Since I haven't played in a few weeks, I am just not eager to really renew and start playing again. Last time I played, was a bit laggy and just not really feeling going back to it and resubbing.

I will resub when I do play because I just can't play without my loot bag lol, but the thing is, ESO is really not keeping my interests right now. I guess this gambling thing going on, is just turning me off so I don't feel like playing.

I guess it doesn't matter because people like me who are not spending money now, is not enough loss to Zenimax compared to the people who are still paying so it doesn't matter what I think. That there makes me not want to play knowing that Zenimax doesn't really care if I pay or not since other people are paying.

Deja vu feeling here. Zenimax is going down the same path as Games Workshop. At least with Games Workshop they turned around with smoke and mirrors to show that they have "changed" and seem to care now instead of giving their customers the big finger. Took them over 15 years to change though. Will Zenimax learn the lesson faster than GW did? Time will tell.

Zenimax, want my money? Let me able to buy what I want, not to gamble to try and get it. Let me have fun, have no lag when I play, especially I play ESO as a single player game. Want my $17 Canadian a month, make it worth it for me more because now I realized there are other games to be playing and giving my money to know.

Remember GW didn't care if I spent my money on other companies. Then they started to wonder how come profits are not as high as they use to. Why did people stop buying? For one having over priced products doesn't help. Second having over priced products that don't seem worth it really doesn't help. At least now having over priced item seem worth it, helps and actually giving people what they want really helps now.

So take a lesson learned from GW and give people what they want, not what you think they want. Don't let your customer base feel like suckers and they don't matter.
Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

If ESO went to a state of forcing a subscription I would leave. If another mmorpg comes along that can offer me more than ESO I might leave. If I wake up one day and go, "I'm really tired of collecting houses, turning people vampire, and seeing the same art style every day," I will leave. That is usually what drives me off, just plain ennui. If I die with a hideous parasite eating my intestines... oh, wait, that has already happened and I'm still here. It does cause my gameplay to slow down a bit when hospitalized. Don't ask. Well, unless you have unexplained searing pain that makes you curl in on yourself every night and scream till your hoarse. Then I'll be happy to explain what is in store for you and how to get the cure. Expect the doctors not to understand what is wrong until to much damage has occurred. Good doctors saved my life, eventually.

For me, it'll probably be a few things, some old and some new:

    1. I never liked the way stamina/magicka is handled. I'd love to use class skills and actually "be" that class but I want to use weapons and not sticks. Yeah, you can technically equip that way, but the resource problems you'll have mean you won't enjoy it in even the most basic of challenging scenario.

This can easily be fixed by actually bothering to give a stamina morph to more abilities, or giving a set that allows resource regeneration with weapons of the opposite type.

    2. The disparity in weaponry that forces dual wield as THE option due to two set bonuses. The maturation of these bonuses actually makes this problem worse. There are places I can use a two hander(the viability isn't nearly as low as not having a staff equipped and using mostly magicka), but a person need only stand in front of a practice dummy for a few minutes to see the obvious disparity that another set bonus brings to the table.

    3. Inventory. I'm subscribed, so I've got more than many, and it still just isn't enough to truly experiment. The is probably the same grinding that others complain about, really, because what I actually want is to be able to keep obtained sets for potential future use so that I don't have to go get them again. Much of my inventory is filled with items for precisely that purpose. Playing with a full inventory is not fun. Housing storage could easily and gracefully fix this problem.

Difficulty is being geared in a not so fun way... not that i cant complete it but things like trials it just seems stupid that hardnode is just add another 12 mil health becaise health equals difficulty.

Vma it sucks too hard for variables like lag and enemies launching 10 shots at once one shotting and ending your flawless run its not even a mechanic is just a lousy planning...

Rng is getting moronic and zos knows it wont fox it because they refuse to buff traits in a good way of adjust dmg types to scale off different types of dmg like adding skills that scale off wep dmg more than penetration etc making nirn a better option than sharp etc.. game feels like destiny and its almost equal crap loot system

Smart loot system needs work remove staves of stamina sets and bows of magicka sets

The game is boring if your not grinding a trial or a delve its boring theres no time sinks no mini games nothing theres only so much standing in down emoting you can do... add horse racing card games galdiator spectators limited betting etc something to do when not jamming a dagger up a hagravens butt.

No transmog after 3 years really ive lost all interest in motif hunting because no jewlery crafting meaning no crafted sets and you can only wear so much bis argonian style...

Pvp is a mess no need for details we all know whats wrong and what wont be fixed ever...

Questing is so boring i pulled a tooth wothout pain killers just to add some dazzle to my day.. the fact your game is so boring at its core that people grind out swaths of enemies to avoid your boring bad reward quests theres a reason alone not to get far without quitting

CP level and gear do NOT mean you'll get a player that knows what he's doing.

We queued for the new Falkreath Hold dugeon (Me and 2 guildies - all 300+ cp) and just needed a tank. Got a level 32 tank. first trash pull...no aggro control for the tank. We handled it until the first boss. Wiped 2 times because tank wasn't holding threat. I post in chat, "Would be nice if you could taunt adds". At that point he left group. Got a level 18 tank next...Cleared the rest of the dungeon with no issues with him

Being DCd from the server right before you're about to win a game in BGs only to come back to a 20 min deserter penalty, is the most frustrated and mistreated I have ever felt playing this game.

Pls ZOS, if you can't fix the servers, at least make it so we can't get a deserter penalty when we're dropped because of your server problems. It just isn't fair.

    I've left several times already.

What brings me back is new content.

What has driven me away (at various times) is the lax of enforcement regarding cheaters or bots, the direction the devs take with my favorite class (Templar), their failure to correct bugs in a timely fashion, or simply, there's something newer, like say Fallout 4 available.

Someday a better MMO may appear. When that day comes, I might not show back up again. But I really love the lore and combat system of this one.

Heh. Good thread to blow off the steam, I suppose. Because honestly? I'm in pretty dark place now, when it comes to ESO.

I started playing in the very end of December 2016. A bit before Homestead, but honestly? I don't count the time before Homestead. I was an honest noob at the beginning, ESO being my first MMO and all that jazz. Had very little idea what I was doing. All exciting staff for me started in Homestead.

Lags, abilities not casting, bugs, maintainence... I can overlook that. It's annoying, but for most part - mildly.

What I cannot overlook is the constant loss of power. The constant loss of power for which I was not given any explanation and which makes less and less sense.

In Homestead I started to get ~28k DPS on 400CP. I got Amberplasm skin, Spiderkith skin, joined vMoL progression group...

Well. We all know what happened when Morrowind hit. Our vMoL progression group disbanded, because we didn't damage s**t first days, thing were very hectic and...

I don't know, how about raising the ceiling, ZoS. I see only the opposite in PUG groups. And I - upper-casual by self-definition - was hit very hard. And I didn't fully recovered still. Because I know that I pull (well, now it's "pulled") lower numbers that I could in Homestead at this very point.

But anyway. I got to my 30k self-buffed DPS in Homestead. With adamant refusal to use pets :)

    MainSorc.png

A lolworthy number for truly high-end players, but I never had any leaderboard ambitions, so it was all good for me.

It always bothered me, that I hit just a bit harder than in Homestead, when I had ~150CP less. I mean, 150CP - 2k DPS. Morrowind truly hit magsorcs.

But I managed. I cleared vMoL in Morrowind. I cleared vHoF in Morrowind. I for the first time cleared vMA (and then cleared it two more times :D) in Morrowind.

And then HoTR hit. And the best I can pull is:

    newDPS.png

170CPs later. I'm back from where I started in Homestead. While having 170CPs less.

Farm fest? And how about the fact that even if you actually go and win this farm fest, if RNG blesses you... you still will not be as powerful as you were.

And even that is not the worst part.

I can understand the concept of MMO as dynamical system. Sure, changes and nerfs are inevitable. Take WoW, for example. I didn't play myself, but according to my nerd friends, you need to regring gear with every major update.

Makes sense, at least. It's not nice, to be thrown back. But a) when you end your grinding - you're higher than you were; b) this system is coherent.

    ESO isn't.

For the love of god, I have just succesfully passed exams for PhD program in physics. I'm comfortable with numbers. I actually love formulas.

But ooooh, here comes ESO. ESO - actual freaking 1984 where 2x2 may be 5, 8 or 100500 while we're still talking about decimal notation just because f**k you, that's why.

Losing power is horrible. Yes, continue screaming "adapt, adapt, adapt". But the truth is - humanity did everything in its power to stop adapting and start living comfortably. All the history of progress revolves about finding the truth and making things easier. There are only so many times we can "adapt" before saying, 'You know what? F**k this, I'm out'. Constant adaptation is not living. And it's especially stupid when it comes to video game. Freaking video game. I mean... really?

But what makes me cringe is the system losing its coherency and integrity more and more. Devs. Do you yourself even know how your own freaking staff works? Hmmm? Because for me trying to understand your mess is as hard as was passing exams for PhD for technical specialty and no. It's not a complement.

And is diversity now means "everything is the same, the difference pretty much equals the margin of error"? Because you know... In real life that's absolutely not what diversity means.

In the end... I'm simply not feel myself up to anything related to end-game. I feel myself like... I have all PvE skins except for Shaman, all this fancy rewards to show off and this is the ceiling. I'm thrown back and when again will I be capable of the same level of performance - I don't know. Time to PUG random normal and show off my nice skins. Time to feel myself like the ones who just like sticking rewards of the past in the faces of others because they pretty much know that it's all they have.

I'm made weaker again and again and again. Systems becomes less comprehensible again and again and again.

There are quests to complete and casual twinks to level. But devs are damn good in killing every desire and motivation to breavely and boldly go into end-game.

At this point why do they even bother with making difficult content (new DLC dungs, Trials - Clockwork City is coming after all) is honestly beyond me, to be honest.

Devs, you sure as hell did everything to smash the vision of ceiling. Lack of tutorials, lack of in-game honest statistics, lack of integrity and сonsistency of the system...

And yet you make vHoF harder with every patch.

Oh well. It's in accordance with everything you do. Meaning - self-contradiction and lack of consistency.

    Well.

Sorry. That was a long rant.
English isn't my native, apologies for any mistakes.

I could list a bunch of individual things but they all boil down to the same basic core: making me play things I don't like or don't want to play. It's borderline as it is, but there's plenty of content I can do without having to do things that ruin my play time. If that got worse I would just give up, because real life is for chores and doing stuff you don't want to do, and video games are for having fun and not doing things you don't want to do.
