Why are motifs sold for so much?

I'm not talking about the crown store, I'm talking about the ones you get in game. They really are not that rare(look at any guild trader)plenty in market. You really can't use them as most use drop sets. These things on Xbox can go up to 200-300k for newer ones then start to drop after they been out awhile.
I just don't understand what makes them so high in value. Can anyone inform me on where the hell these prices come from is it just players knowing people will pay out large sums of gold to have it? Is it the fact they are needed to do master writs?
Just seems a little off for something that can't really be used other then to make a low lvl look cool or make grinding gear until you get ur ugly drop set together.

Those are also 100% full motif drops, that's why aren't worth no where what they were before, you have to be ultra lucky to find new golden books0
