Yep, only weaponcrit and no spellcrit, daggers are useless for magicka builds. Swords are the way to go...

What do you try to tells? There shouldn't be a difference in spell power between swords and daggers. Why should it?

It increases your actual damage done, not your spell-damage (which only contributes to your damage done).

You should test vs mobs to see if theres a difference in the size of the hits you do.

Read the passives. You'll do 5 percent (I think) more damage with swords equipped. It's a damage-done buff, not a spell power buff (so it won't show up on character sheet).

Because of the last passive in the Dual Wield skill line " Twin Blade and Blunt" it adds a 5% damage bonus to both spell and weapon damage when swords are equiped (2.5% per sword)

It does work, as stated, for weapon crit, which is useless for magplars. Each sword increases your overall damage by 2.5%, so 5% for 2x swords.

Sorry for off topic, but i'd like to know, what sets you are all wearing this patch on your magplars. I tested mothersorrow and it was just bad, so I went back to julianos/ aether/ grothdar, but I don't like it that much either.

Swords increase your overall damage done, no matter what kind of damage that is, magick, physical, whatever.

Daggers only increases your Weapon Critical. Thats just how ZOS made it.

Should be using a lit staff anyway for a jab bot templar. Swords are a thing of the past now.

2 ilambris, mothers sorrow and dual wield moondancer (sharp and precise). Can hit 40k buffed in trials.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

Hmmm... I'm surprised that the spell damage difference between lightning staff and DW is worth more than 3% damage. I'm guessing that it has the same effect on WoE and Blazing Spear? Since those are the skills that are your top damage providers IIRC.

Sweeps, Reflective Light, Shards AND beam all hit a nice bit harder with DW option than even with passive. I choose DW swords personally.

I've had a hard time sustaining on DW since Morrowind so I gave lightning staff a shot and noticed my damage went up, but in hind sight that was probably because sustain is so easy on lightning compared to DW without Moondancer.

You can have a backbar-desto for sustain :|

Edit: you get another setbonus (atleast 2% dps-gain) + extra spelldmg for dw. On top of this, spelldmg/stats are multiplicative to cp, whereas ancient knowledge is additive...so the difference is smaller than 3% and gets even smaller when you factor in raidbuffs...
