Should a new playable race be added?

...I got that you are a voice for the "nay" side. I obviously am one for the "yay!" side. Let's just disagree on that one, but keep the discussion on topic regardless instead of sidetracking it. If you want to make an "Should there be more skins/polymorphs" thread on the other hand - feel free! ;)

I will just keep on mentioning here that it would not be the first time in TES history that a race already in the world for NPCs has become playable, and that there are several in the game already that would fit right in with the lore and background of the "sacrificed by mannimarco but escaping coldharbour hell to become a vestige hero" storyline (far better then most TES games storylines where you start out as a more mundane prisoner), and that ZOS can very well choose to add some of them to their crown store for extra profit someday. And then follow up those thoughts to expand on the how or who or any other ideas around this ;)

The answer to the OP question, Should a new playable race be added, is probably no.

Simply put, each of the 10 races we have to choose from are from the area of Nirn the game is played in and each has ties to one of the 4 major groups (3 alliance and ofc the Imperials though we only play within the alliances).

Further, iirc, these at the only race that have been playable in the previous games. All other races that I can recall are either considered extinct or are not even remotely allies of any of the existing alliances or are enemies to them.

Just do not see where one would fit. Even the person who posted above here mentions that TES has added a playable race that was already in the world of NPCs, however, there are none at this time that are friendly with any of the mer or man groups in the game ATM.

One race that is common in ESO, not playable.
One race that is common in MMORPG's, yet never playable.

Yes they should be playable in ESO.

Giants are not playable and should not be playable for a very simple reason - they are "too big"... Same for ogres really... it would not be much fun for them to either clip through all low ceilings, or be denied entry in every place that has a low ceiling, yes?

Would that be an race of their own? Not really...
    ...
That being said, I definitely would want to see a "titanborn" unlock in the crown store that allows people to exceed the usual height slider limits by a bit, and go a head taller then all others for exactly that reason!
And maybe some other "structural unlocks" as well... stuff like dwarfism for those who want a "Tyrion Lannister" style mage, extra fat friar chubbyness, hyper-muscular for ocs with anger issues, increased chest size for females for... uhm... persuasion bonus... ;)

While I'd always welcome an additional race, it would have to fit in with the lore - not just as a race that is compatible with TES but one that is compatible with the alliances. For example, I love to play traditional dwarves in MMOs (axe-wielding miners who speak with a Scottish accent, you know the kind of thing) but they simply don't fit into the TES lore and so I wouldn't want them in ESO. As it is, I have multiple characters across two accounts and don't yet have an Argonian or Orc, so there's no rush for another playable race!

If they expand into akavir, that could be a new faction and four new races there? I can't remember the lore exactly or the race names. But that would be amazing.

Yes they should be playable in ESO.

Very simple reason they are not playable. Physically they cannot enter most buildings and more. Most certainly cannot fit on a mount.

Not likely to happen - a new faction would require a whole new "pre-coldharbour mainstory", and I doubt they would risk spending that much effort (and money) on something like that.

More likely we may someday get an Akaviri themed DLC for -everyone- (most plausible visiting some islands between Tamriel and Akavir that had been used as staging areas for the invasion ten years before ESO - there are three of them, Esroniet, Yneslea and Cathnoquey, each somewhere between the size of a starter island and standard region, and deal with some issues there - would make for a fine DLC someday!), and in the course of that, get the akaviri races as crown store unlock for making new characters, or refitting to old characters per service token... ;)

BtW, the four akaviri races are:
    ...the vampiric snake-people Tsaesci
    2d6fbff51c74abf09e326745981f33e50d6e344e7f05fd53eda148aa81bb6d36_1.jpg

    ...the kind monkey people Tang-Mo
    cf2d26_monkey_king_by_pc_0d4upyde.jpg
(Which totally should come with some sort of "polearm" weapon skill line! Like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/259011/additional-weapon-skill-ideas/p1 )

    ...the agressive tigerpeople Ka-Po'Tun
    latest?cb=20121124071752

...and the "snow demons" Kamal who were the main force behins the ebonheart invasion, but are little mentioned in lore except that they are said to spend the winters "frozen solid" which might indicate some cold-blooded reptilian race which must hibernete during the cold season... a thought that would be more plausible by the bits of mention in ESO about how the invasion force was "reptilian" in at least two places I recall (the wine stealing quest in ebonheart and the avaviri war gauntlest description), though that could simply mean the Kamal came with Tsaesci allies, which is very possible... most people depict the kamal as "White Walker" style ice people, which might be fun as well (provided one assumes the rumours about freezing solid in winter regions are somewhat exaggerated, or questing in eastmarch would be... iffy...)
    10666170_1477116809223308_1879590613_n.jpg

Oh, and there is a bit in the lore mentioning that there are indeed survivors of that invasion, which will sometime during the interregnum ally with akaviri descendants from Rimmen in northwest elsweyr to seize the ruby throne (like everyone else tries) - so we know there are survivors of them around, and while the invasion may have been Kamal-driven, it is quite possible they brought allies or slaves along for the ride, so all four races would be technically viable...

    Half -giants? Titan-born?

Then you'd just end up with a Nord-like character with max height as default...kinda pointless, since you can already do that.

You mean Falmer? Snow elves no longer exist. Essentially devolved into the Falmer. Few escaped enslavement and death and the few that remain live in seclusion. This all seems to have happened before ESO. In other words, does not seem to be a good fit lore wise.

Yeah, the transformation of snow elves fleeing the invading atmorans into blind falmer at the hands (or mushrooms) of the dwemer happened beforer the battle of red mountain, so... ages past from the ESO times. And while we know from TES:Skyrim there are some snow elves still hiding in a far off corner of skyrim, at the time of ESO, they are a mere rumour... and certainly not viable as player characters.

Then we have 2 beast races - Khajiit and Argonian. So I think another Beast race would be in order here. But what? Lore suggests the Lilmothiit are all but extinct, having been possibly the starting point of the Knahaten Flu in southern Black Marsh.

I'm not sure whats happened to the Sload, but they cannot seemingly be found in Tamriel right now. Plus I suspect they would be impractical to attempt to do graphics wise.

The Imga have disappeared, although they lived alongside the Altmer in Summerset - the last messages from them suggest they went to Falinesti to wait out the Three Banners War.

This only leaves the Akaviri races - the Ka'Po'Tun, The Tsaesci, and the Tang Mo. I suspect the Tang Mo would be a cool race to have, the monkey people. But, we would need a whole new chapter involving a reason for them travelling to Tamriel in the mid second Era, then disappearing before Tiber Septim gets the throne in 2E 830.

For me, some sort of twist where the Lilmothiit suddenly reappear and be revealed to have not gone completely extinct somehow would make for an interesting storyline, if I'm being honest.

However, there IS one other beast race said to have existed. Although the only record of its existence is from the poem Father of the Niben; bird men. This is taken from uesp.net:
"The Bird Men were a race of beastfolk who inhabited City Isle in Cyrodiil in the Middle Merethic Era. The name they gave themselves, if any, is lost to history. The only known record of their existence comes from the epic poem Father of the Niben, which describes the adventures of the legendary Aldmer explorer Topal the Pilot, who charted the coasts of Tamriel and discovered the Niben River and Topal Bay. In the poem, while Topal and his crew strove to return home to Firsthold, they traveled up the Niben River to Lake Rumare, where they encountered "brilliant flightful creatures of glorious colors" with "taloned feet". Topal's crew taught the Bird Men their language, and in return the Bird Men made Topal their lord and granted him the "eight islands" that would later make up City Isle. After Topal's departure, the Bird Men are never mentioned again in recorded history, and are believed to have met their extinction at the hands of the Khajiit long before the Ayleids migrated to Cyrodiil."

As someone who is a fan of the Rito's redesign in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, if these bird men were somehow not extinct and made an appearance at some point in the Elder Scrolls series at all in the future, I would be extremely excited. I mean, this is from a poem, so of course there is a lot of speculation. But it is wishful thinking, at least.

I don't think so for a few reasons. First one being that any new races should be added by Bethesda first. Second any new races added should be to fill in gaps playstyle wise that can not be filled by the current races. I don't support adding new races just for funsies or for profit.

I do agree with @Ratzkifal that adding more polymorphs is a better alternative.
