What to do with my Imperial

Hi all. I've been playing ESO for close to 2 months and have a Dunmer Magicka DK up to CP164 using 2 destro staves, which I've found to be a lot of fun, but feel that I'm just now starting to understand how certain skills work together etc. Well, I had 5000 crowns from a 3-month ESO plus and so I bought the ability to play as an Imperial. His passives give benefit to S&B. I made him a Templar. I've been reading/watching YouTube today, and the more I study it, the more confused I become, as far as where to put attribute points. The thing that boggles my mind is that class skills use magicka and weapons use stamina. How do I focus? All the stuff I've looked at seems old/outdated. I've only leveled him up to level 4 or so but should I just scrap him and redo him as a DK tank? Are templars just best as healers?
I haven't played in any 4-man dungeons yet (yes I know I should). The thought of being a tank is kind of scary to me, as far as the responsibility of keeping a group safe. I don't want to waste anyone's time.
PS: I hate the bow in this game, tolerated it in Skyrim. Thanks for any advice.

    Well,

Templars are indeed great healers, if not the best, and it is fun to play heal in dungeon 4 and trial 12. There are many guide for that. I could recommend you the guide from @Alcast, a vet player.

I definitely think that DK and Guardian are the best class to play as a tank. So, I would recommend you play something else with a templar.

Tanking in dungeon 4 is not a big issue, which ever your class is. I feel tanks do not have a lot of responsibilities in TESO in 4-player content, as there is no real aggro system, and that most of the boss fights do not require a tank. Sometimes tank is even a burden, which push people to go in "normal" dungeon without any tank. In vet, the tank can be mildly important and sometimes useless. If you play as a tank, however, you should, however, use some skills to stun/immobilize/debuff mobs when possible, and shield or war horn (ultimate of war alliance skill), to protect your party or replenish its resources. Imperial and Argonian are arguably the best races for that, due to the passives.
In trial 12, the tank job start to be harder, in that case, raid goes with Guardian, DK, sometimes sorcerer as a tank. I never saw any Templar but it's probably possible. Just be sure to have some training in dungeon first and understand well how to manage your resources (stam and Magicka) :)

As for resource management, if you are a stamina-based tank, magic skills and having a small pool of magic is essential to raise shields, use tanking skills, and also to replenish your pool of stamina and life.

If you are a magicka-based character, the opposite is also true, as you will find stam skills that can help you sustain your life or other resources. It is good to train in dungeon and boss fight to determine how much you need each resources (stam and magic), regeneration, etc.

For a stam based character, place most of attribute points in stam, keep maybe 10 points for life. You should hit around 20k with food. All your enchant should be either stamina or Magicka. I prefer to adjust life with attribute points.

    Hope this help,

I am sorry to ask, such a NOOB. But, just what the hell is a Guardian class?

    He might have meant Warden.

    There isn't a "Guardian" class.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. I'll definitely take a look at Alcast's videos. The guy is brilliant, I think. I have watched some of his videos about other classes. I do understand what you're saying, so I have parked my Imperial for the time being and instead, played my female Breton Templar who is level 10, training her in destruction and restoration staves. Should be interesting. I understand about for stamina characters, putting most/all points into stamina - that makes sense. What confuses me is, they HAVE to have some magicka as well, but those skills can't possibly be as strong/effective as if that character were to focus on ALL magicka/no stamina. Doesn't the strength of the skill come from the number of attribute points? I guess you can always buff it up with gear/jewelry but it just seems contradictive/impairing to the overall character to have to do that. Seems like the class skills, you should be able to choose whether they use stamina or magicka, based on the weapon you choose to play. Anyway, thanks again.
PS: I think you meant to say Warden, rather than Guardian
