Speaking of ebony... (Morrowind quest spoilers)

Is it ever explained in the game why your character didn't turn into a zombie after being exposed to the ebony gas in the mine in Vvardenfell?

The mad alchemist at the end of the quest tells you that you are going to turn into a zombie and die because you were exposed to the gas. He says there is no cure. Then you hand the quest in and walk off on your merry way. It's never explained how you cured yourself...

Your character will always have a soul when you do this quest too. If you do Vvardenfell before the main quest, you haven't lost your soul yet. If you do it after the main quest, you got your soul back. So that can't be why you weren't affected.

That's a good question. I don't remember this possible plot hole triggering this question for me, when something like this normally would....

But now that I think about it, I don't remember much of that specific quest line at all. I guess I need to play it again.

Stormproof: Vibeke - 50 EP mDragonknight | Savi Dreloth - 50 EP Magsorc | Sadi Dreloth - 50 EP Magblade | Sigtric Stormaxe - 50 EP Stamsorc | Valora Dreloth - 50 EP Magplar | Sigtric the Unbearable 50 EP Stam Warden
Scrub: Chews-on-Beavers - 50 EP DK Tank | Vera the Wild - 50 EP magicka Warden | Sigtric the Axe - 50 EP Dragonknight Crafter | Sigtric the Blade - 50 EP Lost Nightblade | Sigtric the Savage - 50 EP magicka Templar | Vibeka Shadowblade - 50 Ep Stealthy Ganky Nightblade |

There is a choice at the end of the quest where you can either destroy the formula or give it to the Hlaalu mining council so "they can safely store it" (it's implied that they plan to keep using it). I chose to destroy it. Perhaps if you don't destroy it, there is some explanation as to how you found the cure?

Even if so, that's still a pretty big oversight as choosing the other option would mean you die.

I just chalked it up to time. Just walking through the clouds hurts you as it starts to change you, but you dont stay in the mines long enough for the effect to become permanent. The alchemist dies because he had constant, prolonged exposure. The workers were changed deliberately.
Based on the state of their bodies, I would say the mine was locked with them inside, and was flooded with the gas. By the time we come along, the gas has dispersed some and we are relatively safe from long term effects.

its because your the hero duh...

Its be very anti-climatic if you have defeated a dadric prince in this own realm only to be zombified by gas...
