magDK: 33k ST dps with my magDK on a 6 million dummy (bubbles for moondancer synergies, lightning wall from 3rd Person for whipprocs). Without out of balance effects and whipprocs due to lightning wall and a more heavy attack rota it should be around 30k dps. No vMA staff though. A friend (with vMA staff) and a perfect rotation can get up to 40k, so there is room to improve.

magSorc: somewhere between 25k to 30k ST dps on a target dummy (eledrain set by friend). There is much room to improve but I fecking hate to play a Sorc nowadays with its utter boring heavy attack rota. Still enough for 4-man-stuff though, where I can watch 30k+ scores with some buffs and debuffs and a warhorn here and there.

magNB: same es Sorc (eledrain set). As my DK is my raidchar I just play my NB too seldom. Still enough for 4-man-stuff though, where I can watch 30k+ scores with some buffs and debuffs and a warhorn here and there.

magTemplar: no idea, stopped playing him as DD, but have fun as Templar tank in 4-man-stuff now.

magWarden: Don't ask me. I was completey underwhelmed after a few vet instances and just play him as a tank now (which is really nice to play and efficient).

Stamblade: my current favorite, stamina builds are such a fun now. Around 30k ST (Kragh + NMG + Vicious Serpent) with some shards or heal bubbles from a friend on a 3 million dummy, so that I can spare some heavy attacks. I don't use Jeckl's fingerbreaking skill setup though, I use a lighter variant of that.

DPS is - besides proper reapplying dots - based mostly on correct and strict light/heavy attack weaving. If you do that you already will get a huge dps increase even if you don't always hit the perfect time window for an animation cancel effect.

Well, the secret to an efficient rotation is just to reapply your DOT's in time and keep your buffs up. If you do that it's almost impossible to be under 20K. The rest is just proper weaving. On stamina you can weave just heavy attacks with your DW bar with skills and light attacks between your bow bar skills. You will stay almost at full resources only with dropped pots if you have ~60 points in tenacity, even if your recovery is <1K.

Wow. So where I stand my 14k dps is crap compared to you guys. I'm going to take all this into consideration.
You can certainly get to 20k with small adjustments to your rotation.

Personally, I would not ever bother going higher because I'm too lazy to maintain the DoTs 100% of the time. When I play ESO, it's for entertainment, not stress. I get enough stress with my job.

OK, this is for the lower-level players, like myself.

I'm playing a level 28 magsorc with 7 pieces of Necro, and an 1132 purple lightning staff and 1132 blue resto staff (with life drain and restore). The Necro gear is a mixture of green and blue, and includes a blue necklace and blue ring.

In normal day to day questing, I hit above 5300. When I go up against a boss like Magdelena (in Rivenspire), I've been able to go up to around 7500. So, for me it depends on the length of the fight, longer fights (with a complete rotation) equals higher dps.

Also, everyone (myself included) always tell other players that in order to get jewelry you must do the Dolmen. But, last week my cp240 magsorc got a purple Necro ring from a chest (it was either an Advanced or Master chest - can't remember but those were the last two chests I opened). And my level 28 magsorc got 4 blue Necro rings from chests a few days ago.

I take it that at the Dolmen, your chances are better, but jewelry does drop from chests.

Only 16k in my trial healing set up. If I had more dps abilities on my hotbar and change gear some I can hit 30k, highest dps test was 37.5k. But I prefer healing so I stay low. But when doing dungeons I'm around 30k.

All DoTs last about 10s, with some exceptions that are slightly longer (caltrops lasts 12s) or shorter (elemental blockade lasts 8s), so that should be the average rotation time. Damage buffs last 20s, 33s or 40s depending on skill or 47s (potions) so they should only be reapplied every 2nd, 3rd or 4th rotation to have full up time. All skills have a global cool down of 0.8s . Winding a heavy attack on a 2h weapon takes about 1.6-2ss and on a 1h one 0.8-1s (not really sure about the exact duration) but light and heavy attacks don't suffer from cool down. That's why you can cast them together with your skills and make them hit at the same time. That's called "weaving" or "animation canceling" since the animations overlap and part of them are not shown. The secret is to tap the attack button right before a skill while light attack weaving and press the attack button winding a heavy attack, then hit the skill button right before it hits when weaving heavies. It's basically free damage, and in the case of heavy attacks also sustain (the return from NB light attacks while the skill is active is negligible). Also light and heavy attacks from staves count towards resource recovery from magicka steal, if that has been applied to the target. Not only that but light and heavy attacks activate weapon enchantments, as opposed to class or guild skills that happen to be cast from that bar. Also light and heavy attacks generate ultimate, unlike most of those skills - 9 ult every 6s, just like minor heroism AFAIK. Also check which class skills generate ultimate and use those in your rotation because those ultimate gains will stack together.

Your 15k dps is definitely not top-notch, but its not downright bad either. if you're soloing on a training dummy, everything above 20k is really good.

I know several ppl claiming to do 30-40k self-buffed and I asked several of them how they managed that. Most get buffs from other group members (ele drain, orbs, lighting wall on the target etc etc.). Some claim to manage that kind of damage totally on their own but were never are able to demonstrate.

If you look at group dungeons, good DDs come up to 30k and sometimes 35k dps in boss fights, but thats with group buffs and boss debuffs included ofc and has to be lowered correspondingly.

Groupfinder average tends to be around 30-50k dps, with a few really good groups pushing higher.

Assuming 5k from the tank, and another 5k from the healer, that comes out to 10-20k dps per damage dealer.

Honestly, anything above 20k is above-average.

On my MagDK I'm hitting 37k consistently with a high of 38.5k - thats with 5 Burning Spellweave, 2 Grothdarr, 4 Infal (front bar w/ inferno staff) and just a crafted staff on the back bar - I don't have vMA staves yet.

Thats also with ele drain and lightning wall for whip procs, and using just 1 ulti.

Your light attacks weaves definitely make up a huge portion of your DPS, andyou should really be practicing getting them in between all of your skills.

Wish i could see the uptimes of all my skills in raid group situations, but console is still step behind in that regard

The game population is not represented by this forum though. These are more dedicated players. I'd bet most players are below your range.

Even so I still want to deal more damage. Seeing all these feedback certainly show I have a ways to go if I want to do vet trials.

I'm worse than most. The majority of my characters, according to LUI Extended, do between 6 and 12k DPS average. I can get over 20k on multiple targets/groups with certain skills (DW line). I'll never get much higher because I don't follow builds. I've tried and it just doesn't feel right. I'm here to have fun. When it feels more like work than fun, there's not much point in playing. It also means dungeons will always feel a bit challenging, at least as far as bosses go :)

I'm not very good at DPS, but legendary weapons and a clean rotation and weaving go a long long way.

    Same toon, Different gear

    19K StamNB S/B& Bow VO/TFS/Veli Defending Dagger. 27K Resistance
    23K StamNB DW/Bow VO/Hundings/Veli Sharp

    27K PetSorc Lightning/Inferno Necro/4Moondancer/Ilambris

16K MagDK BSW/Grothdar/IA Plain Sharp Staffs. I know. I'm doing something terribly wrong.

Take what you read on forums with a grain of salt. You'll know in game if you're Carrying , pulling your weight or being carried around.
I was at 20K DPS on PetSorc for a long time. It is very easy to get there. Same gear and a little rotation work/Bar Setup I got to 27K. It feels like work honestly. I still have more work to do.

The average damage seen in this game is far below 30K on PS4 NA. Don't care what the forum posters say.

It's very easy to get those numbers on your own. You just need to self apply ele drain and you're golden. Group support is absolutely not needed.

EDIT: And your group damage numbers are rather low. If you can get 40k on a dummy, you're obviously going to strike higher in group dungeons on bosses with actual group support. 50k is not out of the ordinary.

My mag sorc is highest at 35k. Necro/IA/Ilambris vMA sharpened lightning back bar and random sharpened (go back and forth between fire and lightning) staff front bar. If I go dual lightning I use a flame enchant to proc fire damage for Ilambris.

Recast your DoTs as they're expiring. Too early or too late and you're losing damage. Weave a light or heavy attack before every skill. If you weave properly it's basically free damage because you can cast only one skill for approximately every one second. Know when to heavy attack and don't wait until you're out of resources to heavy attack, do it preemptively.

My rotation: Liquid Lighning, Wall of Elements, Daedric Prey, Volatile Familiar (cancel with a bar swap), 4x Force Pulse (last Force Pulse cancel with a bar swap, when done correctly it will look kind of like it's coming out of your hip)

It's got to be the easiest rotation out there. Light attack between each skill. If you're testing solo apply Elemental Drain to the dummy to start and then every third rotation replace one Force Pulse with Elemental Drain. To keep your resources up replace 2x Force Pulse with a heavy attack when needed. I drop a destro ult to start and a Meteor when it comes up, which will take place of a Force Pulse. When you get to 20% replace Force Pulse with Endless Fury/Mage's Wrath, but you'll still want to keep up your DoTs if they will go through most of their duration. It's a timing thing and knowing how much damage you're doing. If you do it right you won't be heavy attacking during execute and you'll just about be out of magicka as you're finishing.

If you want to get better I'd advise you to watch Alcast or someone else that does a parse on their build videos. If they pull up combat metrics make note of their most damaging skills. If it's a DoT you'll know it's important to keep that DoT up at all times with out overcasting. For most (all?) stam builds Endless Hail does the most damage at about 20% of your damage if you have a vMA bow, probably about 15% without, provided you have a solid rotation. Watch some videos on animation canceling, again I recommend Alcast. He has a few and they're definitely worth watching if you're serious about getting better.

On dummy 30K self buffed entirely is certainly achievable if you apply major breach with elemental drain on a magicka build or major fracture on a stamina build. Stamina DK and especially NB will always score higher on dummy because they have class skills that apply major fracture, the latter as spammable skill. Major fracture/breach is 5.2K penetration, resistance cap is 33.1K which gives 50% mitigation. Thus having that debuff increases your DPS by around 8.5%.
