If I was grabbing a chest and an enemy hits me out of it. Then while I'm killing the enemy a khajiit steals the chest could I be reported for racism for calling him a dirty cat?

Is fantasy racism based on in game race choice considered the same as real life racism?

Heard alot of stories about people getting banned for weird stuff.

Generally speaking, the people that got banned over racist behavior were engaging in real world racism. To an extreme degree.

There's a kind of fantastical racism that's baked into the races of ESO, and is... I'm not sure, "somewhat acceptable," is the term, but kind of expected. It doesn't make it okay, but you'll certainly see it on display as you go through the PvE content.

All of that said, swiping a chest, when the other player is right there, and was distracted by an attacker is seriously impolite. So, some frustration is kinda expected, and while name calling isn't a great idea, calling someone a variation of "cat," is far more benign than what you could reasonably expect to see.

Short version: don't expect any repercussions, but don't make a habit of it.

Only if you're also a khajiit.

Or if they're an argonian you can call them a dirty argonian because argonians don't have souls and can't actually be offended.

Well, if that were the case, all the potshots I've taken at Nords on these forums would have gotten me in deep excrement.

It may be a offense worthy of a life time ban, which is only like 3 days in ESO time. Dirty cat is pretty strong. At least you did not call him a dirty skooma smuggler.

Don't think you have to be concerned about this specific issue as NPC Mer's are occasionally calling Khajit's - filthy cat's and Argonians - lowly lizards.
Dragonborn, huh? Was it your ma or your pa that was the dragon?

Happens a lot - best plan just ignore and move on to the next chest.
In my usual round of the chests in the Roost's beaches it happened to me twice in succession - so I got mean. The next time I was in combat and a dirty cat sneaked in to 'steal' the chest I jumped out of combat. Easy to do, and the skeevers in this case turned on the dirty cat. So I just went back to the chest. Could not stop laughing.
