Should a new playable race be added?

And if so, what? And to go even further, what would be their racial passives? Bear in mind that each race has a passive that provides a skill boost in one area or another, so one of the passives would HAVE to be a skill boost that hasn't been done yet.

I think it would have to be lore-friendly, and almost certainly not a Mer race as we already have 4 of them - Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, Orsimer. Plus, there is only the Maormer left in Tamriel at this point in Lore. All other mer races are extinct or have become part of the main 4.

We also already have 4 Human Races - Breton, Nord, Redguard and Imperial. Lore also suggests that these 4 are the only known humans races left on Nirn at this point as well.

Then we have 2 beast races - Khajiit and Argonian. So I think another Beast race would be in order here. But what? Lore suggests the Lilmothiit are all but extinct, having been possibly the starting point of the Knahaten Flu in southern Black Marsh.

I'm not sure whats happened to the Sload, but they cannot seemingly be found in Tamriel right now. Plus I suspect they would be impractical to attempt to do graphics wise.

The Imga have disappeared, although they lived alongside the Altmer in Summerset - the last messages from them suggest they went to Falinesti to wait out the Three Banners War.

This only leaves the Akaviri races - the Ka'Po'Tun, The Tsaesci, and the Tang Mo. I suspect the Tang Mo would be a cool race to have, the monkey people. But, we would need a whole new chapter involving a reason for them travelling to Tamriel in the mid second Era, then disappearing before Tiber Septim gets the throne in 2E 830.

If another race is added, the moarmer would be towards the top of the list since we already have them in game in the present day.

Not really, 10 races is plenty. More char slots, skill lines or may be class will far better to add IMHO. Single player TES games always had just 10 races and I am used to them lore wise. Plus, how the dev handle NPC dialog in the main zones and how the NPC react to the player? That is A LOT of work or re work to add the race into the game the right way.

Maormer are not native to Tamriel, they come from Pyandonea. So the chances of seeing them added are slim, unless Bethesda does decide to do so.

If they add a new race, they need to make it a magicka race. We have more stamina races than magicka.

I've argued for the Lilmothiit before. (cause potentially adorable fox people I mean c'mon!?) Claims that they're all dead because of the Flu can be argued with the simple hypothesis that what's left of their society could have survived the illness elsewhere, isolated, however even so they'd be too few in number to justify the sudden mass of them running around as player characters.

While the majority of people here want more Elves. Specifically the Maormer. Me personally I would never touch an Elf, much less the worst of the Elves so I can't understand the popularity with the main antagonists of a major questline, but that's just me.

But you know who would be pretty interesting to play as? The Lamia. They're intelligent, abundant, and very different. However let's just be real for a second. The Elder Scrolls games have ALWAYS been about playing as the ten races we have.

    Reachmen?

I clean forgot about them. A bit of research suggests that racially, they are Half-elves effectively, a cross breed of man and mer with a small amount of Daedric influence thrown in. Also, they are very do-able in Lore, as Varen actually removed a Reachman emperor from the Imperial throne. And, they can be found in a number of places in Northern High Rock.

I actually think it could create an interesting kind of character.

I just mentioned them due to their proximity to the alliances lol.
in truth each race has a reason to hate their neighboring alliance so not sure if they would make it alliance themed.lithimot would especially hate the argonians.

    Not quite.

Bretons are the descendants of the Manmer, half elves, whereas the Reachmen are sort of an offshoot of the Bretons. They are of Breton descent but they also have the blood of other races in them as well, though not much Nord.

Reachmen developed their own culture and religion (the Old Gods or Daedric Princes) and have been disowned by the Bretons, becoming the savage tribesmen as we know them today.

Breton/Nord/Nedic, specifically. In Skyrim and ESO, they're mostly Bretons, ethnically.

No. Especially not exceedingly rare or effectively extinct races.

I could get behind some of the other Khajiit breeds being added to the playable roster, but that's about it. I could also see some alternate lycanthropes as possible additions. Not exactly a new race, but still.

Unless they wanted to add three new races, one for each faction...
An individual new race would need to be cross faction.
Something that the lore could support having fight on all sides of the Alliance war.

Just to be clear, if you were doing a pencil and paper, TES RPG, I'd have nothing against including rules for playing Lilmothiit, (uncorrupted) Falmer, Maomer, Tsaesci, hell, even some of the hard no-goes like Dwemer and Chimer wouldn't be off the table. But, for an MMO, it just wouldn't fit.

Generally speaking, with MMOs, the key concept to remember in creating your character is, "you're unique, just like everyone else." If you want to create a character with a unique backstory, create one. Don't use a cliche like being the last of your kind to try to sell it, because there's 32 other level 3 Lilmothii in Zone, screwing around, and telling people to do unspeakable things to their immediate relatives.

Actually, Morrowind was the first single player TES game to introduce the Imperial race, and the Orsimer race, as TES 1 Arena had orcs as beast, and imperials as just divided tribes, and TES 2 Daggerfall, turned Orcs into beastmen, but not yet a race.

Anyhoo, Maormer would be at the top of the list for new races (and the top of my personal list), and then next would be either Reachmen, (and don't hate me for this) a Dremora (just like Lyranth the Foolkiller), or last but not least the Tsaesci, since their crafting Motif has already been on the PTS. All in all tho, they'd either have their own faction, or have to choose from one of the three (which would be really dumb for any of these races.

TL;DR : Maormer, and then Reachmen, Dremora, or Tsaesci

EDIT: since I didnt want to double post, if they added a race per faction, itd be another beast race like AD-Imga, EP-Naga, and DC-Centaur.

Also, if we're talking about ancient history, three or four different Khajiit breeds have been playable. There's only ever one option per game, but the breed you played changed. Arena had an Ohmes, Daggerfall had an Ohmes-Raht, Morrowind had a Suthay-Raht. IIRC, the player characters from Oblivion on have been Cathay, but I'm not 100% certain.

Yeah Oblivion was Cathay, and Skyrim was Cathay-Raht. Argonians kinda went through the same thing, since in Arena, Argonians didn't have tails so some people think they were Kothringi or throughout the games, it was Argonians from different tribes.

From me. I was just bouncing dialog back and forth. It's not a specific quote. Or if it is close to something, it was unintentional.
