Say i finally got fed up with my squishy PvE Stamblade, and spent the resources making a separate set of PvP gear, all Impen. Would there be a noticeable increase in survivability? Would i suddenly be taking a lot more hits than i usually can?

Sure some bursts still gunna get ya, and some stack crit damage, it avoiding 50% extra damage (if you hit 3300 resistance) every other hit def helps!Xbox One | EU | EP

✭Yes because crit damage matters in PvP. It won't change the fact you are squishy but it reduces the chance of you getting ganked by some players.
If you are squishy you could go the other extreme and go all damage to gank, but you limit the fights you will be optimal in and your playstyle. PvP really is a different beast. I change sets and skills swapping between PvE and PvP. I also change skills depending on whether I'm grouping or soloing in PvP. Find a good group and listen and ask questions if you really want to enjoy PvP.PUG Life - the true test of your skill
