For kicks I would like to acquire vampirism from mobs/NPCs.

Can someone tell me as to what those mobs are and the best way to farm them ?

From google I can get some info but looks mostly outdated..tx mates

Blood fiends I think they are called.I _think_ they only appear with a certain moon but I never verified that. I waiting around in the Rift for weeks... never saw them. Eventually while waiting I started asking questions in zone chat about 'how to vampire' & a friendly player msged me to meet them at the shrine for a free bite :D

Rare spawns that occur in Reaper's March, Bangkorai, and The Rift. They only spawn at night (in game), about once a (real world) week. Used to be there was a hard spawn timer that would drop them in at midnight, but I now know that's no longer the case. So, when it gets dark, you'll see Bloodfiends or Werewolves scattered through the zone.

They do have specific spawn locations, but as with things like thief caches and treasure chests, only some are active at a time.

Once you find them, just get hit once. That will infect you. Then you need to go complete a quest. To pick up the quest, you need to be in the zone that corresponds to your alliance. For example, if you're Dominion you need to go to Rawl'Kha, you can't pick it up from the quest giver just north of Riften or the one outside Evermore.

At launch, they'd spawn on the New Moon. This resulted in players from a couple guilds camping their spawns, killing them off as quickly as they spawned, and then charging +40k for the bites. So, ZOS moved them over to a random timer.

In theory, they still have a higher chance of spawning on a new moon, but, they'll spawn other nights as well.

One of my chars got infected that way and i didn't realize it for weeks because the initial status effect just sits there on your stat sheet with no real impact.
