Hmmm ... good question about temperature affecting Argonian eggs. Does it? I don't know. If so, then Argonians can determine the sex of their children by manipulating egg temperature.

It has to do with the Hist. Argonian in Black Marsh, and Argonia proper should not have breasts, as they were affected by it. That is why Argonian near the Hist hatch and lay eggs: they have no need for breasts. Their young is hatched.
Regarding Argonian born outside the hist, I'll be a lizards uncle (
) if I know why, but something to do with the severing with the Hist connection causes Argonian to take on a more mammal like physiology, probably intended to get them mates.
Hence, the lusty Argonian maid.

✭We have plenty of pretty hard hints that the Hist originally came from Oblivion. And that their sap is basically a form of chaotic creatia which they can use to change things.
So my theory is thatlike daedra they can change but not create. So when they came to Nirn they changed/inserted a bit of themselves/soul/sap into the local lizards look more humanoid so that they could be their ears and eyes in the world as they could move more freely. And when you change something to help you check the world out you make it resemble the local life/humanoids they were going to interact with. Hence something mammalian breasts

A single sex or indeterminate sex Argonian race would actually be pretty cool actually, really sell the whole "otherworldly" aspect.
Have you noticed Argonians don't seem too hung up on gender roles like say Orc?
As creepy and ugly as they are, they can be fascinating.

You would either need an special model for female argonians or restrict them to male outfits.
Not sure if this is an issue in ESO as males can wear female costumes. Or do they have separate meshes?
