Because now every guide I can find is a freaking video. I don't want to watch a video. I want a map with a marker saying the thing I am after is right there. How hard is that?

And yes yes, don't use guides, git gud etc.

But holy crap I am tired of crappy electronica music and sitting through people saying like and subscribe.

I appreciate guides. I am not trying to be an ungrateful whiner. I just think a lot of people out there who would make great guides normally, just end up making youtube videos for an easier route.

I too never use a video as a guide & prefer maps / written walkthrough. But there are so many out there that it's easy to ignore youtube.

Perhaps specify you want a map in your search? Or just scroll down tbe google page (or even go to the second one!) & you should fund what you need.

And for Litany of Blood, try Benevolent Bowd's site. Good descriptions as to where you might find targets as they move around an area.

Litany of blood does not provide target markers.

Yes it is one of the few which actually doesn't but then again why not using one of hundreds of written guides + screenshots? Do you expect markers for a quest with targets who wander in the city in different places? I'm just trying to understand :)

To be fair, youtube really doesn't bother me. It's basically replaced TV for me, over the last decade or so.

YouTube does not bother me. The guides that people post on there do. Video is great for showing how to perform a series of steps to accomplish a task. Many people who make such videos seem more interested in the music they play than the task they are showing, and often, it is apparent that not a lot of thought went into the content before it was recorded. Poor quality is annoying, and YouTube is filled with it.

Videos showing character builds probably top the list of ESO related content that should not be used with video. It can take a considerable amount of time to consume the information, compared to reading it, and you might get a ways into the video before you realize that the creator has been eating the wrong mushrooms.

    Hello,

I'm guilty of making videos about ESO and posting them. I started doing the videos around the time I started Morrowind and have made only a few so far.

I'm also guilty of looking for helpful resources to aid when altogether stuck on a problem in ESO. I do not use the resources much as I like to solve things by myself and not rob myself of the satisfaction of completeing whatever I am doing without help.

I prefer well written instructions and or well indicated maps. I will use a video if I can find no other help though.

As for; how hard is it to make a map with markers? It is usually not. In my videos I Put a 'spoiler warning', titles stating what is being dealt with, (at least once so far) drawings showing aid, video captured from game where appropriate and end information that includes software used in making the video and a note on Bethesda video use policy. There is something else I use to aid others ... now ... what ... is .. it? OH! I remember now; I use screen captured maps with either static or animated markers.

Helpful videos are not for everyone. There are many places to look online for static images or text guides relating to ESO and many other games.

The 'Don't use guides - git gud' arguement is silly and most often used be people who ... used ... guides ... to ... get good.

As for 'electronica music and sitting through people saying like and subscribe', although I have software to make music of various types (not just electro pop) I have not put music over my videos as I know my taste in music may not be as others and I get concerened about copyright issues. I have just treated myself to a rather nifty microphone but have not yet done any voice over work. Why no voice over? Well... I do not like the sound of my voice recorded and played back to me!

The "Hey, like, guys, like subscribe to and like 'like' me" thing is not something I want to do. I would not mind if someone wanted to subscribe to or 'like' my channel or work (or me) but I'm not so narcissistic as to insist upon it.

Video content is not just a youtube thing. There is a steady increase in video content across the entire internet.

I get totally irate when I click an interesting article and get sent to some 30 second video with a 10 second commerical in front of it.

I don't know if the problem is corporations trying to shove more marketing in my face, or if it is a side effect of a generation that doesn't want to read.

Right? Reading is so much faster and more efficient than any video version, why in the hell do I want to watch a twenty minute video to gain what I could read in three? You can also tell right away if the info you need is going to be in a particular document, as opposed to a video where you just hope it will be and find out eventually.

I guess people like it because it's more conversational?

I don't hate youtube though, some things are better or only possible at all in with video.

Agreed, I also cannot abide video guides. More often than not they're acoustically unpleasant and take an unnecessarily long time to get to the point (or to the information I'm looking for). A text you can search or skim through – or choose to read it thoroughly. Videos deprive you of this, unless you're familiar with their timelines. Alas, I'm afraid they're here to stay.

Since when is a video a "better version" of a written guide ?
    - A written guide lets the reader read the content at his/her own pace - unlike he video who forces the reader to integrate the content at the speaker's pace.
    - A written guide focuses on the important things - explaining - while the video guide focuses on the unimportant thing - showing.

You must be in your 15s and act like those dudes "*** books I want to "read" my mangas".

You also mention that people should skip content up to the part they want to check : how can they do that unless they've watched it all and KNOW where and what they want to skip ?
