Hand trouble - Blocking & moving out of the red questions

Hey guys,

I have a hand issue which makes frequent movement and, especially, timing dodge-rolls difficult. I mainly play MMOs as solo PvE, maybe some light group content. Can I get by with a build that mainly mitigates damage by blocking with a shield, or otherwise with their weapon? Is there usually enough time to walk out of the red, rather than dodge-rolling out of it? I don't need to be any kind of high-end player, just wondering if I can be viable.

Thanks for any info!

It's largely a reaction time issue.

I'd say that you should look to be a tank. You don't have to get out of the red fully, as both bars have shields (usually) so if you can't get out of the red soon enough, you can block it, and still survive due to their usually high health pools.

I'm on PC, not sure if one can remap keys on console, but I put dodge roll on my middle mouse button so it's only one click to roll away. Double clicking failed for me too often to be reliable.

You can't remap on console and button combo's only work when they feel like it - or maybe I just need a new controller!

OK, thanks for the help! I'm on PC.

Is a dual-dagger thief type pretty challenging to play in solo PvE? I can go tank if need be.

Yeah that is the hardest type to do, you can use Blade cloak dual wield ability which will help reduce area of effect damage (more so next patch). The only burst heal available comes from playing PVP a lot... Vigor. You can use supprise attack which will give you a defensive buff due to the shadow passive. but I am not sure it is enough.

You can play magicka characters which have sheilds and heals, Harness magicka for example. Magicka nightblades have a lot of life drain abilities to regain health. Perhaps just respec into a magicka nightblade.. you are kind of a shadowmage instead of dagger wielding.

You can also respec into a tank whille still being a nightblade, although that got burtally nerfed in morrowind. There are lots of hp% bonuses in the nightblade class and plus the life drain abilities can allow you to take a lot of damage. "sap tank" concept where getting hit heals you works best with nightblades (was way better before morrowind).

If you joined for morrowind and made a dark elf they are good for all these.

    Fire staff.

Honestly, tanking is really good. You will learn mechanics about the game you don't learn as a DPS. It is also a lot more forgiving, you can pretty much drop block for all vet dungs and be ok.

If you have the money, you can also do what I did and pony up for the xbox elite controller. The paddles on the bottom make it so you don't need to move fingers as much. You can hot key any button to them, triggers included. Now I don't need to take my fingers off the thumb stick to switch weapons or hit up on the d pad to access item switch.

If specced right, it's not. You just need to take the healing morphs. Killer's blade (assasin), Blood Craze, and Bloodthirst (dual Wield), and Funnel Health(siphon). Deadly cloak will reduce AoE damage by 20%. Try to get a 5pc Bahahra's Curse set. You'll be damn near indestructible.

    Dual Wield
    Ultimate:
    Rend: (Morph of Lacerate)
    • Slash all enemies in front of you, dealing [x] Physical Damage over [16] seconds and healing you for [50]% of the damage done.
    • Increases the duration.
Blood Thirst: (Morph of Flurry) - Spammable
    • Flood an enemy with steel, battering them with five consecutive attacks that each deal [x] Physical Damage.
    • The final hit deals 300% more damage and heals you for 60% of the damage caused.
    • The final hit heals you for a percentage of the damage caused.
Blood Craze: (Morph of Twin Slashes)
    • Slice enemy with both weapons to cause deep lacerations, dealing [x] Physical Damage and causing them to bleed for an additional [y] Physical Damage over 9 seconds.
    • You also heal for [z] Health every 2 seconds for the duration.
    • Also heals you while active.
Deadly Cloak: (Morph of Blade Cloak)
    • Create a ring of floating razors around you, dealing [x] Physical Damage to all nearby enemies every 3 seconds for 15 seconds.
    • The razors also shield you from shrapnel, reducing the damage you take from area of effect attacks by 20%.
    • Increases the damage.

    Assassination
Killer's Blade: (Morph of Assassin's Blade) - Finisher
    • Thrust a caustic blade with a lethal precision to stab an enemy, dealing [x] Disease Damage. Deals 300% more damage to targets at or below 25% Heath.
    • Heals you for 17% Max Heath if the target dies within 2 seconds.
    • Converts to a Stamina ability and deals Disease Damage. Also heals you if the target dies within 2 seconds.

    Siphoning
Funnel Health - (morph of Strife)
    • Steal an enemy’s life force, dealing [x] Magic Damage and healing you and 1 other nearby ally for 25% of the damage inflicted every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
    • Heals yourself and 1 other nearby ally.

I would reccomend rolling a tank. You dont have to be quick and use a lot of skills, just permablock everything.

Having a very high ping is also one of the culprits for being one-shot from a red dial.
I've had my fair share on this and no matter how early I dodged and visually on-screen, I have successfully moved out of the red zone but I'd still get hit with the incoming damage. In times of high ping, you're better off doing regular questing/anything that doesn't require a very high level of reaction and good connection from your part (like trials and PvP).
That's what I've learned from it.

Not really. In solo PvE you can play what you want.

Even with a silly tank build 5 Plaquedoctor + 5 Green Pact or 5 Diagna you can do enough damage with dual wield in solo PvE and on overland bosses. Just use all points on stamina and put stamina glyphs on everthing.

I recommend a stamina warden. Lotus, Shrouded Daggers, Deadly Cloak and Subterranean Assault just mesh perfect. With Deadly Cloak and Lotus i usually never care about red. There is a passive for blocking more damage with dual wield. There are only few overland bosses i cant solo tank with dual wield. Public dungeons arent a problem either. If you dont like the bear, you dont have to use it. He is a good off-tank though :) I use an infused sword and a dagger btw.

Controllers on PC are amazing. OP can use it as is, or can use a program like InputMapper to rebind the buttons. I've rebound some of my buttons to be the same as a keyboard command, and InputMapper supports binding a button to a combination like shift+left click. I think roll-dodging is a lot easier on controllers. Plus you don't need to move your fingers as much as on keyboard & mouse, but I don't know if that would help the OP.

Other options include a gaming mouse or numberpad. Steam controllers are fun too: there's a learning curve if you're used to an XBox or PS4 controller, but the customization is A++.
