Overlooked Gear

So yesterday I was doing random Vaults of Madness and kept getting Oblivion Edge gear. For some reason I always thaught it just a complete garbage set. I'm using VO/ Hundings/ kraghs.

I never noticed the 5 piece adds another weapon damage with the fill soul gem and I also hadn't noticed it heals you as well. When you kill something anyways. So basically this set is 40 less weapon damage than Hundings, lose %3 Crit but gain Stam recovery, get a heal and fill soul gems. Am I gone mad, or could this be decent to use?

Should note that I'm on a stam Khajit nightblade so losing %3 Crit is hardly noticeable

It's a solid set. The soul gem aspect of it isn't terribly useful. It's not often that you accumulate enough empty soul gems that need filling (unless you're farming anchors).

I had considered using Oblivon's Edge on my stam sorc in VMA, because like you, I had a ton of it after farming for Rattlecage in Vaults of Madness. I paired it with Vengeance Leech so I'd have a lot of return on health when killing enemies. That plus crit surge made for a decent enough combination of self-healing. It just got really annoying for me to read the text in the upper left corner of my screen after every kill that told me I couldn't collect a soul because I didn't have empty gems.

Next patch, Hunding will give you 10% crit chance, 1k stamina and 300WD. This set will give you 5% crit chance, 258WD, 129 stam recovery and the soul collect with heal.

With common buffs, you will be losing 55WD to hunding that translates to less damage and less healing.
With 5% less crit chance you will do less damage and get less healing.
With 1k less stamina you will do less damage and less healing.

While the recovery piece can be useful if you struggle with resources, on overall the set is just worse in every possible way.

It may look similar but it really is not. If this was craftable set and hunding droppable you could just use it until you get hunding, but when you can get hunding any time there is little point getting this.

Looking at sets in isolation is not a fully accurate view. What if that regen bonus allowed you to slot another weapon damage jewelry glyph instead of regent/cost reduction?

But yeah I agree Hundings is significantly better if you are considering one or the other. The soul gem/healing benefit is just not that strong.

Trade offs is all. Lose a little Crit and WD and Stam to get a little recovery and Heal. It might not be BiS, but is not terrible.

It is accurate view when most things are interchangeable. You can trade regen for damage 1 for 1 on jewelry or 2-4 set piece. You can trade resources 1 for 1 with attributes and so on... You cant never get most 5th bonuses.

Anyway, I think that heal value cant even crit since proc set changes and it has value like one one tick of vigor heal. And vengeance leech is literally better on 3 pieces

It is not terrible. It is just worse than easier to get sets so there is no reason to use it. Like if you have it, fine use it. But dont waste your time and mats on golding it or grinding it and start saving money for something better that you can then gold out for best stats.

On the topic of overlooked gear, how about that Briarheart?

It has a few specific perks that, taken together, no other stamina medium set offers:

Briarheart will buff damage for both weapon bars while slotted in only one weapon slot AND it gives weapon damage to buff all types of skills AND It comes with jewelry, AND it's usually cheap on guild traders.

Seriously, try it if you've been using a 5th piece of Hundings slotted on just one weapon bar for ~50% uptime on the weapon damage buff. 50% Briarheart proc uptime handily beats 50% Hundings uptime.

I like the looks of briarheart. It would make any build act more like a StamSorc getting heals from doing damage. I only get heals from actually killing targets now. I may have to try it out.

Briarheart drops were bugged since 1T (or not changed) so it was not viable choice. Not sure specifically what was the issue, I think something with missing traits and missing weapons.
But it is pretty ok set once it gets fixed with Horns.

Sad that the rest of the Orsinium loot doesn´t get the same treatment (looking at you winterborn set).

Briarheart is bugged (or the tooltip is wrong). The dmg buff has no cooldown and even when slotted only on 1 bar it usually has 95+% uptime, making it a way better version of hundings. The heal is pretty bad though, because it doesn't proc on all critical hits (which would be op probably). Either because the heal has a cd or because it has a low % proc chance. Not sure on that one.

(No sharp weapons now, but divine and infused armor does already exist)

I think that's a combat metrics bug, it really has an uptime of 55-60% against single targets when slotted on just one weapon bar, I got this last night on the PTS after back calculating the average weapon damage.

I'm thinking Briar is probably more than just OK in the next patch. If someone has a Maelstrom bow, TFS and full monster set, they might want another 5piece weapon damage set on the dual wield bar.

Guess, you are right, seems to be a bug with addons (bufftracker + combat metrics). Still pretty good imo, even now (jewelry, divines armor, infused 1h weapons already exist), because it allows the use of 2p monsterset + 2x 5p set.

I can't see trading in VO for much of any other set, but I have tried quite a few with it. At least for PvE content. I keep coming back to VO/ Hundings. If I can get basically Hundings performance and a heal to boot I probably be sold.

I be looking more into this briarhearts.

Prisoners set. 2 Stam recovery stats, 1 stam, 50% reduced Sprint cost, and 1k per second mag Regen for holding shift.

If you know the way sprint work, you'll see why I suggest this set. Much better for pvp mag builds/Stam builds with heavy mag drops looking to get Stam recovery.

I picked up a set of the BriarHeart. Damage wise seemed about right on par with Hundings, but the heals are not so good. Well, not strong enough to take vigor off the bar anyways. Some things look better on paper I guess.

I need to get enough pieces to try war machine and witchmans next. It looks interesting.
