I'm kinda meh on most of the in game costumes, and I can't stand to look at my gear sets anymore.
There are some decent looking disguises (ex. BOODTHORN, HOLLOW MOON, etc.) in game already, it couldn't take much ZOS effort to make costumes from them right?
Obviously this would make them dyeable which will help to avoid attack of the clones. I'd prefer they be earnable, or at least several included in a modestly priced CROWNSTORE pack. Do NOT tie them to crate RNG garbage. So that there's no confusion, the disguises would still remain as normal.
At the same time off a CROWNSTORE vampire normal appearance (achievable currently while using a disguise).

✭They still haven't revealed how the Transmogrification system will work. It's HIGHLY possible that they give the player an ability to make a costume out of currently gear they have equipped. It would certainly be easier than reprogramming every item to hold a variety of skins.1 -

I'll believe in a TRANSMOG in this game 6 months after it's delivered in an almost completely broken state... ok, I might be a bit cynical here
Agreed on hoping thy allow you to create a custom costume based on equipped gear (will help the crafting community hugely, and make motifs even more desirable).1 -

Like...
...once you finish the matching quest, remove the disguise from the inventory, and unlock a costume with the same visuals but no disguise function on your costume tab. Maybe even split the costume tab into several different sections, one for crown store costumes, one for disguise costumes...
It'd be fun, it shouldn't take that much coding, and it would ease some inventory problems for people who really, really like those disguise visuals...
