I can't turn crafting writs in anywhere I want?

I wanted one of my alts to have Riften as his main city, but to my surprise, crafting writs taken there cannot be turned in there. The quest is sending me to Auridon. Is this normal?

Auridon, Stonefalls, or Glenumbra. Yes, it's normal if you're doing low level writs.

Yeah. Originally writs were tuned for your character's progression through the game, by tying them to how far you've advanced through the various crafting lines.

You'll ultimately end up handing in writs in Belkarth once you've finished your skill lines.

Yes, keep at it. Before you know it, you will turn in ALL 6 in Belkarth. Its so worth it, trust me, just keep at it...

Wait, does Riften even have a home so you can use it as a base?

Jesus! This makes absolutely no sense.
So I can pick the writs up in any city with the bulletin boards, but I can only turn them in in the capital city of my alliance? Ugh...

    No, NOT neccessarily the capital.

You can only turn them in at the place that -ordered- that level of gear.

Low level gear will be ordered in the first regional main hub scity (Davon's Watch, Daggerfall, Vukhel Guard), higher level gear in the next regional city (which happens to be the capital of your alliance) and so on, eventually you will advance past alliance territories and turn in your write in the Hollow City in Coldharbour, and finally, Belkarth in Craglorn.

(This is a bit like a postman complaining they can "only turn in the mail delivery quest at the name on the evnelope", really :p;) )

As you increase your rank in crafting you will be sent to the next zone to hand in that writ. Used to be that you could only hand in at your faction cities but now can at least hand in at the equivalent cities in the other factions. So also recommended to keep your professions at same level or you have to run to a few cities to hand in. Think have 7 hand in levels - 5 zones for the factions, then cold harbor and then end off in Craglorn. Think after update 15 you will be able to hand in first level writs in Vivec city also but think it still confused at this time.

You can turn it in at any alliance city that has a Consortium (turn-in place for low level writs) regardless of your alliance. Most of my characters are DC, but I usually use Auridon (AD Vulkhel Guard) or Stonefalls (EP Davon's Watch) for low level writs because the crafting stations and turn-ins are closer togethe in those cities than they are in Glenumbra (Daggerfall DC).

The system made more sense when it was originally implemented. Back then zones had specific level ranges associated with them. That was phased out with One Tamriel (last fall), and the remaining system relies on logic that no longer applies. Used to be you had to deliver the writ to a region that would actually use it.

The system is in need of an update now...

We can pick up anywhere, we should be able to drop off anywhere but as others have said, the drop off system is based off how it was a number of updates ago.... no longer makes any sense.

I'd like to have a charachter or two live in Riften as well... and they're sat in that dust bowl of belkarth & are very unhappy!

Hate Vukhel Guard as the distance between crafting station, bank, delivery point and wayshrine is so long that with an slow horse and lazy writ mod you spend more time riding than crafting.
Can I use the other alliances locations? Looked but did not see the drop off point.

Khajiit recalls someone somewhere mentioning they were thinking of changing this - if only in terms of different levels of crafting writ being all able to be handed in at the same place this one she thinks though, rather than giving you a free choice of handing them in anywhere.

Personally this one she still holds a little dream of being able to either pick up or hand in all the crafting writs at her own home. This one doesn't see this ever happening though.

    @Zaria
    For the starting levels
Daggerfall by the habour (one in nw close to wp) (also long run from where can craft to hand in)
Stonefall (Davon's watch) Also at the harbor near the inn (at bottom of all the stairs in the north)

All of them have long runs if going to bank and wp - found that for just crafting and hand in the Vukhel is best and where have my 4 low level alts. Rest are using the levels above so scattered all over the world. About an hour to do all 9 (don't do the blacksmith/cloth and wood writs as they don't reward as well for the cost)

Edit - city name I forgot

As i suspected, I had checked in the cities to see if they was close to crafting stations.

My main purpose of doing low level writs is not so much money or training, deconstructing intricate cp160 gear works well.
Do the equipment writs, at crafting level one it will always reward you with level 1 materials so they mostly fuel themselves.
bank the writs and collect them on your master crafter then you get an stack.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

Nope. You can't turn them in anywhere you want. Each level of crafting has a different drop-off point.

It might ease your mind to know that you don't have to turn in your writs before reset. As long as you pick them up before reset, you can turn them in anytime, and pick up the new ones after you're done.

At least that's how it seems to work on PS4.

I would really like this too, but I would definitely settle for being able to hand in writs in any main city.

Well, you need to go make a delivery sometimes. You know, for work.

But, yeah, I'd much prefer if we had unified turn-in locations based on where we picked up the writs.

TBH im my opinion being able to collect and drop off in houses would be detrimental...

People would never go out, many charachters would only live in their houses, which would lead to the world being les spopulated, looking quieter... and less sociable.

AT least with getting out & about it makes the world seem more bustling & lively which is a good thing.

That being said, I think we should be allowed to choose which city to go to.

Personbally I think it would be nice to be able to hand it in everywhere for reduced rewards, or to the specific place for full rewards, then let anyone decide if the extra payment is worth doing the delivery hassle themselves.

    ...

Hey, at least you don't have to cart the goods up a road that's crawling with sand warriors and wild creatures, to some place where they lop off the heads of the unruly... ;)
