A Build Challenge:

I am looking for some advice in making a tank char. I will give you the aspects of the character that I cannot (or will not change) and I let you come up with ideas to meet the goal of the build.

Goal: To make a 80% PVE tank and 20% PVP tank char
Cannot change aspects:
1) Khajiit race
2) DK
3) Stam Based
4) Will NOT use any drop sets, but any craft sets are Ok to use.

What type of stats do I need? All in stam? OR what type of ratio between health and stam (or a different ratio)?
I am thinking of using Shield and Axe for the main weapon and bow for my 2nd weapon

What type of skills to use?

Bar One
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
Ultra

Bar Two
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
Ultra

What is the best rotation with your build idea?

Thanks for any and all tips. :)

I think Jitter was talking about jewelry being dropped. And one of your requirements was no drop sets. Did you mean no dungeon sets?

I stopped reading after I saw the words "tank" "dk" followed by the word "khajiit". No monster sets, either? If you are going to impose restrictions for build advice, then do your own thing... How can people give advice if you are already fighting against it in your initial post with these restrictions?

Dude, just do your own thing. I'm sure the local Wolf and Imp enemies won't be a problem with whatever your build is while you pick flowers and mine ore....

I have a Khajit DK who tanks dungeons, I use Morihaus and Alessia's Bulwark if that's any help! Morihaus 5 piece is great for crowd control although it's a DLC over world drop set (cheap in guild stores though). Maybe Hist Bark instead?

PvE and PvP are two different animals gear and skill wise.

Also, it's very limiting not using any drop sets, though you will have to use 3 drop pieces since jewelry cannot se crafted.

    For PvE

    Jewelry
Either Order of Diagna or Plague Doctor for all three pieces. Block cost reduction for jewelry enchants.

    Armor, weapon and shield
    5pc Hist Bark
4pc I'm thinking redistributer for all max stats or Kagrenac did some max health, magicka and some magicka recovery. I'd probably go with all max stats.

Sturdy on all armor. Infused, decisive or infused on weapon. (Preference in that order). Infused will increase your healing to yourself. Enchants- prefered tri stat for max stats. Otherwise maybe all max health. May have to play with it since it's been awhile since I haven't used tri-stat glyphs.

Mundus - atro for magika recovery which is your source for self preservation and utilities.

Food, Any tri stat food. If needing more magicka regen either or orzorg max health + magicka regen drink or witchmothers potent brew for max health. Magicka and magicka recovery.

Once fully geared add health attributes until you get the health you want. 30k health is fine, more means larger shield. Then most of the

    First bar
Puncture, heroic slash, absorb magicka. Green dragon blood, igneous shield. War horn ult

    Second bar
Undaunted taunt Inner Rage (yes magicka morph), talons, absorb magicka, chains, hardened armor. Magma shell ult.

Especially on the second bar absorb magicka is a flex spot.

That's a basic straight forward build without us or drop sets other than the 3 jewelry.

BTW, tanks down have a rotation like dps do. Taunt just before taunt wears out. Heroic slash about the same time. It does have a shorter length than taunt so it can be done more often. Keep armor buff up full time. The rest is as needed.

Taunt mele trash and bring them to ranged. Chain in anything that needs to be chained. Or talon melee and pull in ranges. If dps is good they'll be dead before they can be taunted. Heal yourself only when health is below 50% since it heals based on lost health.

How about dropped sets that are very cheap and easy to find on guild traders?

yeah, for armor and weapons. I have a master crafter and I want to use her to make items... Rings and such cannot be made, so I have to use drop ones.

I can give you a build my friend was using a while ago . It definitely was tanky , had nice damage and sustain . If you switch out the damage part , you can get a lot more sustain . 5 Tava's Favor , 5 Witchman , 2 Blood Spawn . You can switch Witchman for Ebon or Dragon for PvE . That's very easy to do since they are easy to get . Tava's is craftable , Dragon and witchman you can buy , ebon is the only thing you need to farm . And blood spawn is just a monster set , can easily get it but can use something else too . Doesn't matter much .

5 tavas (heavy), 4 shackle(1 med, 1 light), agility jewelry will be enough to tank through most pve content ( your not going to be trial tanking, but i'm assuming you don't intend to with your specifications). As for skills for s/b bar: puncture (taunt), choking talons (root/aoe maim), igneous shields (stam sustain, ward, major mending buff) , volitile armor (resist buff), will be your bread and butter pve skills. unrelenting grip for pulls, Vigor or GDB as heals, igneous weapons for group damage buffs, inner fire for range taunt, defensive stance for block cost reduction + increased effectiveness are other good skills to run. for pvp your build would vary too much depending on whether you'd want to be a group support tank, or be better able to put pressure on the front lines for me to go into that.

I am new tanking. I have a tank and she does a good job on normal dungeon runs. I have not play her much in VR dungeons yes, but when I do -- thus far she is doing well as well. Someday, I would like to learn how to tank in trails. I have a lot of fun tanking in Battlegrounds to day as well. That got me thinking how to improve my tank, thus this topic's question.

I meant I want to craft my own armor, but since jewelry cannot be crafted, I used drop ones. I worked hard to learn all the styles in the game. Why throw all that away for drop sets?

because many drop sets compliment crafted sets or can out preform crafted sets depending on how your building your toon.
is preforming optimally your goal, or just looking good in the latest cool style with a badass dye job that took your hours to make sure the colours matched up just right
