Basic AP Questions

I have a basic question regarding AP and ranks that I can't find any direct answer to....

If I spend AP, does that slow my rank progression? I know that spending AP will not lower my rank but is rank advancement based upon all-time accumulation total of AP, or based upon accumulated AP in current currency (in inventory). If it only advances based upon total AP currently in inventory, then that would be a huge deterrent to ever spending AP if you want to rank up. If there is some hidden total of AP accumulated over the lifetime of a character (regardless of any spent) than that would mean I can feel free to spend it without delaying rank progression. Can anyone confirm/clarify?

Look at this way, every AP you earn passes by the counter that determines your Alliance Rank on the way to the bank where it waits for you to spend it.

You can spend every AP you get and still have the points counted towards your Rank

When you gain AP, its like you gain XP in a skill line, namely your AvA Rank. The AP you gain like this also becomes a currency for your character, whenever you spend this currency, either on siege or equipment vendors, you will not take that away from your AvA rank, ever. So you can spend it as you see fit without worrying about loosing rank etc.

No. The AP "currency" that you spend goes away, but your "high score" never does. It goes up and up and up. You can safely blow your AP on forward camps and repair kits, you will not slow your rate of promotion. :-)

You rank is based on the total AP you have ever earned, not your AP balance - so spend away.

Not at all. Instead it can speed up your rank progression if for example you use it to buy some oils and then kill enemy players with the oil.

Another thing to consider is the fact that certain addons that track gains (ap gold exp telvar etc) will show two units when you get a kill. Which means, when you get a kill you get two things ap (currency) and ap (exp towards rank and leader-boards.) One you can spend and can be changed in either direction the other is like a odometer -- it just counts up.
