Respeccing from Stamblade to magblade

rockythedog1
So I finished the molag Bal vestige story line with my Dunmer Stamblade. But I have been finding her to be so squishey but still fun to play. Thought I would respec to make her a magblade. Cannot believe how different she is now. Have I made a mistake for doing it this way rather than build a magblade from scratch? Feel like I'm at a total loss on skills and bar setups. Plus of course all my gear is stamina focused so I made a quick dash to deshaan to hlaluu crafting retreat to create some torug light armour.

Anyone else advocate respeccing like this or do people prefer to start from scratch. Have I made a mistake? Play style is completely different and now feels weak as a kitten

Edit: I'm not yet at level 50, just hit lvl48 so no CP yet

You'll always feel weaker on a toon you haven't played a lot compared to one you have. As for your choice, you can always respect if you don't like it! I personally prefer stamblade, and ZOS did help us out last patch. Try slotting siphoning strikes, and morphing it to leeching strikes. It heals whenever you light attack or heavy attack, and if you weave that means 100% uptime plus resources back after 20 seconds!

That, and I'd recommend spending some time in PvP this event. If you get to alliance rank 5, you get a stamina heal over time called vigor that is really strong. Combined with the resistances from surprise attack and its synergy with the shadow passive, you'll have one tough ninja :)

Alternatively, if you want to go magblade, try it out and check out the siphoning tree in particular. You get a lot of cool heals based on damage done.

Cheers DocFrost I'll bear that in mine. I'll give her some play time as a magblade and respec back if I really don't get on.

My magblade started out as a stamblade from all the way up to VR 12 (back when vet ranks and no cp), also dunmer changed it to a magblade, loved it, do so much better and have been a magblade for the past 2 years now.

My Bosmer NB has been both stam and mag multiple times. In general I find magblade more fun to play in pvp but stamblade feels a lot stronger.

Being a Dunmer basically gives no benefit towards stamblade so you would probably be better off as magblade. Its also more survivable because of the self-healing.

Should I just respec to magblade though or start a fresh toon so I can get a feel for the skills etc. I have concentrated so much on stam I wouldn't have a clue on correct gear. If I'm a magblade then it's destro and restro staffs right?
  • Cloudy_Vapes
Eh I've done what you did multiple times on several toons, just honestly changes with meta and personal pref, I race changed like 4 of my toons this patch to play with other type and see how I like it. I work full time so more cost effective for me to just pay to race change then to make a new toon, my choice. You level up faster re spec then making new toon because the exp per kill/quest etc, will be higher because leveling is scaled now, so when I switched to stamblade at like 180 cp and changed to mage blade, I maxed destro staff from level 5 in like couple hours running dolems, VS a week of grinding a new toon, so up to you

No need to start a new toon. Just respec. Go kill mobs, and do delves and dolemens to get the feels of your new build before doing group dungeons.

Respec, starting over is a waste, especially considering you'll have to redo all of the quests all over again just to get where you are now.

I just recently did this respec it's an easy alternative to reroll, but play style is very different I'm even still using dw with destro instead of destro/Reston it's hard to keep track of weapon swapping in a tight situation

That's the main problem I have been having. Is dw and destro viable? I keep getting confused lol

dw back bar, destro front bar for LA funnel weaving. for PVE DPS. But their is so much more, if you don't want to be DPS. I have seen some pretty good Magblade healers if you know what you are doing. My magblade is a tank and I have tanked all vet dungeons on her. I run double sword and shield. For PVP usual best setup of Destro/Resto
  • rockythedog1
Wow ok cheers. I'll try the destro/dw set up then. Good cos I like dw and yeah I want to dps pve. I have been dabbling in pvp for the mid year mayhem and damn it is ruthless, cut throats and salty lol.
What low end craftable sets do I want to be looking at for a magblade? Bear in mind I'm only about to hit lvl 50

for dps, crafted gear julianos is prob bis. With theif mundas stone. do the random normal dailies and try get some willpower rings and neck. or you might be able to buy some pretty cheap from the guild stores, try get them arcane enchant for max magicka. and go divines on your gear.

    Warning: Mageblade Lover

I started out a Khajiit stamblade but switched to magic so I can solo harder content (Imperial City sewers was hard then!). I remember being told a story of a guy running in the IC alone and taking whole groups down of NPCs and players on a mageblade and my eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas.

I thought I would regret switching to magic but naw. It's been a year and a half and my mageblade is still my favorite. <3

But I did switch from a Khajiit to a High Elf after running a year as a magic Khajiit. I beat VMA, VDSA and all the vet trials with my Khajiit. I miss him so much.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Mageblades are great for sustain in PVE content. I don't see a lot of Stamblades doing trials and if I do, they die a lot. If you try doing VMA, a Stamblade is the second or the hardest class to beat it on. At least with a Mageblade, you can have a consistent rotation which gives resources back at the same time and you have plenty of heals. I run into a lot of Stamblades in PVE who run out of resources fast and always asking for a shard from the healer when that's placed usually for the tank. This is just from my experience. It bothers me when I am on my tank and go to grab the shard and I can't because one of the Stamblades grabbed it. :D

Yes Magblades do have great sustain. And my magblade is a tank in vet dungeons. I never need the shards so I am more than happy to let the stamblades take them.
I have also done VMA on my magblade. The self heals and great sustain really help a lot in VMA.

I'm in same shoes as you, I respec my khahit stamina to a mageblade lil under year ago, but wondering if you can give an insight of gear and skill setups. I tried a few different setups and YouTube builds lol, but still can't manage to pull off the dps in pvp and live without getting 2 shot, so tips would be nice :)

Shard? What shard are you talking about?

I hit lvl 50 last night, got ten CP as soon as I got lvl 50, and soon after I went into a cave on a quest and I had a tooltip popped up saying about enlightenment. So what is the enlightenment and how do I activate it?

Shards is a templar skill. They throw them at the Tank, and when it's picked up it restores stamina.

Enlightment automatically happens so you don't need to do anything. It just means while you are enlightned you will gain cp a lot quicker. The longer you are offline the more enlightment you will have.
