They've said this will not happen (excepting that possibly something that hovers close to the ground) and tbh most of us here do not want flying mounts.

ZOS has explained in the past that the way Tamriel is built, it is impossible to have flying mounts. The system simply cannot support it in the way you'd like to see it implemented - your 'flying' would amount to hovering a couple of inches above the ground. Implementing flying mounts as WoW has done would require rebuilding large parts of the game, which is just not going to happen.

A large part of ESO is traveling and maneuvering around the obstacles. A flying mount would circumvent a large portion of the map's purpose.

As much as I'd like it, it seems counter intuitive

I would love to see hovering mounts or mounts that glide when you sprint and jump but grounded when walking.

    It's very much possible.

I'd be happy with spellcraft implemented long before flight.
Zenimax needs to redesign their asset loading system and memory management first.
Having to wait for zones to load and objects to res in is bad enough. Imagine trying to fly with the horrible mesh-loading times...

And that's what Zos should provide. Then these threads end.

For the new threads that state we want our mounts to be able to fly freely the reply is simple. Mounts are to scared to fly higher due to lag and server crashing.

Not going to happen. Besides, I think there is only one instance of flying mounts in ES Lore:

    http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Sun_Birds

But there is debate that these may not even be birds, but ancient ships built. Of course, Skyrim had dragon-riding and there are going to be no dragon mounts in ESO. Netches "kind of" fly, but more like hover. They would have to add things for variety that aren't lore-based, which is a big no-no.

hey hey! Skyrim did have dragon ride code. part of main story line.

EQ2 already did have riding mounds.

or better, Play Gifteds of Istaria as playable dragon character, have to go thru Rite of Passage to become adult dragon to fly. but they cost monthly sub, and i will warn you, population is very low and hard to get some help on specific quests. graphic are outdated almost like classic EQ1.

Yes there was a part of Skyrim that had riding a dragon, but that was the DragonBorn and there are NO dragons or DragonBorn in this time line.

I give ZOS about a 60% chance they release a Netch mount eventually. Your odds are pretty good. Lore-wise though, the saddle is more likely going to be on top of the Netch, and it will have to be a young Netch (not the massive ones you see used as taxis in Vvardenfell). Beggars can't be choosers though!

      Flying mounts ruined Wow.

      How/Why?

      1. Flying in WoW made players lazy about ground exploration/ground questing. Once you had flying you used it all the time. As flying was only tied to leveling for several XPacs it meant that there were literally people who levelled through dungeons and never really explored the zones. They simply skipped lots of content.

      2. Farming. Once any flying XPac was out it created a gap between those with a max. Level char and those who were still on the way there in terms of farming. Flyers could get to herbs/ores without having to fight their way past certain obstacles.

      3. Quest and Story. If you had flying you took a quest, flew to the map marker, did your thing and flew back to hand the quest in. Obstacles, the path there... it all got lost in the flying craze.

They tried to change that by introducing the Pathfinder Achievements, but it ended with people doing just exactly as much as they had to for flying. In a way flying changed the entire dynamic of the game, the way people approached things. And as time passed a lot of players felt that flying did not change WoW for the better.

"Why did I follow him...? I don't know. Why do things happen as they do in dreams? All I know is that, when he beckoned... I had to follow him. From that moment, we traveled together, East. Always... into the East."

No, flying mounts ruin the adventure of every mmo. You rarely see people running around because they are a mile in the area afk flying to their destination anyway. It makes the game feel so large when you see a group of people running towards a random direction doing gods knows what.

Edit - Now if they added a gliding type deal like in archeage, that would be amazing.

As other noted flying mounts ruined WoW.

Like here a lot of wow was built based around specific travel paths and the obtacles to overcome in reaching them. Much of the map was not even filled in when viewed from above and players who found map glitches could explore spots with untextured shapes or even "jump off the world" and land in test files or caching shapes or just get stuck and need to file a support ticket.

Then they added flying in their expacs - and expac zones became spots to fly up and skip past the lore and challenge to collect loot. Then they spent half their dev busget of their theid expac remaking the base game for flying... and the result was a dead world where many players don't even know what's down there in the zones anymore...

Flying only works when it you give it to the enemy mobs also - and have packs of them up there and an aerial combat system... and at that point you might as well just make a super hero or dogfight game instead of a fantasy MMO...

Nope, won't happen. There's a lot of "unfinished" textures in areas we're not supposed to go.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8511bq66Js

Flying mounts would require a lot of dev time finishing out world building. When flying mounts were introduced in WoW, it was a MAJOR expansion release with COMPLETELY redesigned zones. This is part of why I no longer play WoW...along with the oversimplification of the talent point system. For example, Rogue tree. You can either take "Sap" or "Stealth" you can't have both. The funny thing is, stealth is required to use Sap as the mob cannot be in combat.

Flying mounts will only destroy the game further.
