After I got my stamina nb maxed I haven't entered Cyrodiil as a mag. Therefore I can't really add a mag nb pvp build, unless you want the old one I ran

Not a bomber build but could easily be turned into it. Setup is well-rounded for 1v1, ganking, and group play. Soul assault has a 87k tooltip fully buffed that I am satisfied with (had ~100k once but other stats hurt).

I would not use this in non-CP.

I run healer-NB build. It is fun and works fine in nearly all situations. (Not sure about HM trials, not interested in them anyways.)

    2 Chokethorn
    5 kagrenac's hope
    3 willpower
1 resto staff / 1h+s backbar (with a set that gives 2pc health bonus)

I can solo most world bosses and pledges. I can do pvp with it, though it's not exactly the easiest to run solo.
    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

    Go dominion or go home

Do you guys think that setup leaves you a little low on magicka? I sit at about 33k on WR front bar. I've tried tri stat food, and just cant sustain with it, so have to lean on witchmothers potent brew instead. Even with tri stat food it's only ~1.5k more magicka? Must admit, i'm running 7 x prismatic glyphs, but i feel the health and stamina from that is a must. Am i wrong?

    For PvP:

5 x Rattlecage, 5 x Spinner + 1 x Molag Kena, armor slots mostly Rattlecage so it's a pretty defensive build. Add to that a froststaff on main bar to be able to block with magicka, restro in defending on off bar. I used it for zerging and large group AvA.

As I haven't played much PvP since Morrowind so I can't tell if this is still sustainable with witch brew as it is mostly heavy armor.

    For PvE:

Either Scathing Mage + 4 x IA + Ilambris or Valkyn (using Force Pulse as spammable)
or War Maiden + 4 x IA + Valkyn (Funnel Health as spammable)

I am not sure what the next patch (another Ilambris nerf by 10%) will bring, but I am collecting Moondancer stuff and maybe go 2 x 5-piece-sets (Julianos + Moondancer or Warmaiden + Moondancer or Spinner + Moondancer) and one Undaunted set piece (mosty likely Molag Kena).

I made my NB a redguard as I hadn't planned to mage on this toon but screw leveling all the weapon skills again. The 3rd tier racial is semi useless but a little extra max Stam and regen makes me feel better about using the mag regen drink.

I haven't had a good mag build since MORROWIND dropped on my NB I've fallen back to Stam.

What I can say is though,

Impen isn't everything if you're spending 98% of the fight invisible something you're probably going to be crotching if you're in mostly light armor.

Concealed weapon's movement speed bonus stacks with major expedition which when you're vamp stealth/cloaked is pretty effin quick for an invisible player.

Nothing is funnier than cloaking through a zerg chilling on their outpost balcony dropping a couple of concealed stuns then cloaking back to safety while 20 players are taken off the map searching/waiting for you while you're back on objectives.

Soul assault is the bane of your stamina brethren, you should rarely lose a 1v1if you can land this on a Cannon Stam user intelligently/as a mid range execute not an opener. It's also cheap af.

One of the most enjoyable classes to play mag it just needs a little more ooomph, passives are pretty dece though. You have options to be a melee mag user, a casting mag user or a mix of the two which is highlighted by their skill set.

I like to think of Mag NBS as warlocks/drainers with a little panache.

Opening would be stealth > cloak for 100%> heavy attack-funnel>crippling grasp>cloak>land a concealed stuns>soul harvest or soul assault (which ever applicable) and then you dance with heavies/funnels/cloak-concealeds if they aren't dead.

If you're in trouble you can literally reset the fight, dodge roll >cloak only a select few will get you through that whilst you ward breifly out of LOS before planning your next move.

    Gear wise

Can't go past Kena and I actually quite liked 2 piece Skoria if you're keeping dots up but it's better for magdk. Grothdar dece too anything that ups damage really.

I really like the look of War Maiden as a lot of the mag nb damage is infact magic damage not poison/elemental. The lead up bonuses all perfectly suitable too. But as I said been rolling Stam since Mozza dropped so haven't rolled it.

Clever Alchemist - controlled burst so that's lovely hp too I didn't warm to this set however on paper it's certainly a viable option as is Krags/Stygian (not actually sure anymore)/Rattlecage all depending on how YOU want to play this magNB I would recommend going for a damage set up and making up regen elsewhere vamp/drink/champ points (before diminishing returns reks you)/jewelry if you really have to.

If you're not playing cloak up time you'll want some heavy once again passive wins for PvP and dat undaunted tier 2 passive % to max stats.

If you are running Tri stat. than for sure you have to have elem drain on the front bar. swap out elem drain if you run witchmother.

I mostly play BGs so my build is tailored for no-CP. I'm currently running Destro/Resto with:
    • 2 Skoria
    • 5 Spinners
    • 5 Lich
Skoria is basically a must for dps Magblades in no-CP, I believe Spinners is the best damage set for Magblade (Necro edges it out but I don't run shade), and for a set you only have to back bar Lich is definitely the best magicka sustain set.

Using all spell damage glyphs, have triglyphs on big pieces, witchmothers food, and leeching strikes for stam sustain. Well rounded, solid DPS build with nearly unlimited sustain.

Edit: I will also give a +1 to the 2 Skoria / 5 Riposte / 5 Transmutation build mentioned above - arguably the BiS Magblade setup right now for its overall well-roundedness in groups and solo.

You make a great point that the skills being used are probably the most important thing. But it is easy for everyone to simply swap out various skills and try them all out and see what works for them. Whereas with gear, unless you're rich and/or don't mind endless grinding, it is difficult to try out every combination. So I think people want to see what gear sets are popping up the most as being useful to they can make it a point to go out and buy/grind and upgrade those sets to experiment with. Talking about gear helps people narrow down which sets they need to test to find a comfortable setup for them.
