I understand this may be more of a niche issue; that being said, I'd like to see what everyone else thinks on it.
In most, if not all, zones of Tamriel, complete zone instancing can occur based on server traffic. When this happens, the zone is divided into separate channels to prevent latency and other serverside issues. The only group this really affects is the roleplay community, but it does so in an incredibly frustrating way; most roleplay guilds have simply moved on to housing—which has a plethora of issues in itself—but a good majority of us still utilize the overworld, despite this glaring frustration.
Do keep in mind that I'm talking about overall zone instancing; not the phasing that happens when two people go into a quest zone, and they suddenly lose sight of each other because one person hasn't done the quest.
My question is this: Would it cause issues if the community were able to "select" their instance, as though they were channels? Several games do this to prevent the exact same serverside issues, dividing the game into a few servers, and then further dividing those servers into channels to prevent latency.
Thoughts?
