Cosmetic Face Markings Pack and Vampirism

If I spend crowns on the face marking pack, will it show up even if my character has Vampirism?

    Markings (face paint, scars, etc) all become washed-out with the vampirism effects from my experience. Same with body markings (a khajiit with dark tiger stripes will have grey stripes that fade more and more with each stage of vampirism). It's silly that things like face paint and tattoos face too, cuz how does being a vampire make your vibrant red facepaint turn whitewashed and nearly impossible to see?

    Thanks. Will save my crowns for other things now.

    It's the way they apply blending modes to the textures, they basically just layer another texture channel on top of the base skin, they don't isolate or mask off various bits of the textures. It's a lazy way to deal with all the variations in one go, implemented sloppily.

    This right here. I really hate the way they have done this and what it does to tattoos and makeup. And even though players have been complaining about it since launch they don't seem inclined to do anything about it.

    Currently this is the state of the game - either don't be a vamp or don't use face markings. Problem solved. I hate to be blunt, but I'm just being honest. Will ZOS change it? Perhaps, but don't hold your breath. Feels good to complain on the forums though, I'd imagine.

    Granted there's a fair amount of work required but a junior should easily be able to handle switching a texture channel around, there's no 3D remodeling required at all.

    If they don't want to do that, then changing the blending mode used by the Vampire skin is an easy fix, I'm guessing it's currently set to something like "Overlay" or "Hard Light" - changing that to something like "Multiply", "Linear Burn" or "Screen" would change skin tones but leave dark markings dark.

    Meekly accepting the status quo is what sheep do.

    It varies.

    This screenshot of a dunmer vampire shows that some markings are still visible and personally I think this one looks good.

    It does look good! Wouldn't you want the blood to stay red though? Also having a base green skin tone seems to offset the blue tint prevalent in the vampire skin well. My Dunmer went with dark grey and at stages 3 and upwards she now looks like washed out vomit. If I have time tonight I'll grab some screenshots of my three vampires to illustrate.

    Sorry to <beat-the-dead-horse-meme> but changing the way the textures stack from ...

    -> BASE SKIN
    -> FACIAL & BODY MARKINGS (Alpha channels are tinted by texture above)
    -> VAMPIRE SKIN (Vampire affects all textures below it)

    to ...

    -> BASE SKIN
    -> VAMPIRE SKIN (Vampire now only affects base skin tones)
    -> FACIAL & BODY MARKINGS (Alpha channel not affected by textures above it)

    would address most vampire cosmetic issues.

    I noticed this as soon as I earned that skin as well. It appears the alpha channels (referenced above) are in a different sequence for the facial tattoo - and this should be the same sequence they use for ALL body/face markings. They should be on TOP of the vampirism effect, not washed out by it. It makes no sense at all. A tattoo is applied to the surface level of a layer of skin. An effect on the skin tone that affects the pigmentation would not make the tattoo lighter as well - if anything it would make the tattoo stand out more prominently.

    Skins override and hide vampirism. That's because, in part, vampirism is a skin. Or, more specifically, four skins. So when you equip a skin over that, it occupies the same slot.

    This is actually a change, back before dark brotherhood, multiple skins would stack, so a mindshriven vampire would have glowing red eyes. It was actually pretty cool, and trippy.

    To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a costume in the game which hides vampirism. There are some, like the Treasure Hunter or Plague Doctor that make spotting a vampire more difficult, but that's because you can't actually see the character's skin, not because their vampirism is hidden.

    Disguises conceal all cosmetic modifications to the player except their personality. This was added in Dark Brotherhood, and it's never been clear if this was intended behavior or a bug. But, at this point, Vampires who wear disguises will appear to have reverted to human, as they were when you first rolled them up. The only problem is it also suppresses any other customization you did to them. New hairstyles, body or face markings, and, of course any clothing they're wearing is hidden. This was less of an issue when the bug first popped up. We didn't get the option to change a character's hairstyle until after DB released. But, with the introduction of crown store and crate exclusive cosmetics, losing access to those is now more significant than when DB dropped.

    Ok I agree with this! If you have a facepaint on, or a tattoo I don't think it should be faded on a vampires skin.. I mean its on top...

    The issue is money spent on something that you can't use. So say they randomly decided that Templar players can't use the fire/demon horse because it does not fit their 'holy image'. Well you can just reroll!

    Well you can just not be a vampire!

    If I spend money on cosmetics, I should be able to use it on all my characters, regardless of their skill lines.
