To prove my point that it is beneficial to the game, just look at the social class system. We have poor people, middle class people, and rich people. By having this class structure, we strive to better ourselves. We have no way of knowing if we are keeping up with the joneses by keeping gear private. If people enjoy being poor then that is their prerogative and they can mingle within their class. In conclusion, Elitism spawns from the ability to inspect players gear. Elitism is a mechanic that is desperately needed in this game even more so than an auction house.

No. Absolutely not. Dungeon groups are picky enough as it is, I don't want to spend 15 minutes arguing everytime i run vets with some elitist snob who demands to know why I run Mother's Sorrow instead of Scathing or Defiler instead of TFS, only to get kicked anyway. For the love of all that is holy, NEVER let this be a thing in ESO. Somebody asking what gear I'm running is already a red flag. Giving him the power to check without having to ask is the end of group finder.

yeah....nah.
Gear inspection leads to the DCUO Paradox paradox.
In ESO terms, we'd end up in a position of "Oh...you want to run White Gold Tower? Wait, you don't have SPC gear. No. No WGT run for you. Come back when you have SPC gear."
edit: for those who have not played DUCO, when the Origin Crisis DLC launched, the hardest raid at the time (and for some time after) was Paradox Wave. Soon after it launched (and again...for some time after), a good number of groups refused to run it with anybody who had not completed it. Essentially, you had to have completed Paradox Wave before you were allowed to join a group for Paradox Wave.

Addons like DPS Meter and Gearscore had a large hand in making WoW the Wussfest it turned into shortly after.
Groups would stand around outside an instance or raid "looking" at one another's gear etc to the point where a group most likely could've ran the damn thing in less time.
Groups didn't learn a thing about group content as noone wanted to risk *gasp* wiping on a boss. It all became about who had bis tems and less about gelling as a team.
So yeah , please ruin this game the same way , please!
