A story...about a wannabe elitist

Disclaimer: It seems that I have been using the wrong definition of elitist. I thought the term meant someone who played this game to a competitive level. I have since realized from replies it is someone who is competitive but is also very abusive to other players. That caused a few people to react negatively when I freely admit in the following post that I am an elitist. My apologies.

So a friend and I que for the pledges. We are both near 1000 CP, all hardmode trials completed, leaderboard regulars blah blah blah...what some would describe as...dun dun dun..an elitist.
We were bored. I needed the skill points on my warden and he..he just goes where I drag him typically.
We land in Wayrest 1 Veteran. Easy peasy, right?.
I, on my trial geared warden healer, Swagg is on an OP magsorc, one dps and one tank we dont know. We start blowing thru adds paying no mind to either of the 2 randoms.
Then I see this pop up in group chat from the CP 400 DD.
Whyyyyy are you doing vet dungeons??

Now at first, I dont know what or who he is referring to. So I ask, what do you mean?

Well...he is not talking to me. He is talking to the poor CP 94 tank with a two hand weapon, yes, but is actually holding taunt and staying ALIVE.
I couldve easily asked Mr CP 400 the same thing.

And so our conversation begins..
LZWHQQY.jpg

I decide at this moment...I am going to show him just what a REAL elitist is...I explain to this "elite" CP 400 DPS in heavy armor and a 2H that my friend Swagg and I top leaderboards so we should be more than capable of carrying someone thru Wayrest except...unfortunately we are not going to be carrying HIM.

I vote to kick him and of course, it passes immediately. The CP 94 is apologizing profusely in group and area chat.
We reassure him that he is doing fine, give him a few pointers on tanking and continue. We were fine until last boss who one shotted him repeatedly thru his 16k health.
But in this moment I WAS DEDICATED.

I decided to switch to my tank. My tank who has tanked Vmol while I breastfed.

*Meanwhile, I notice Mr CP 400 has whispered me...and called me a "console pleb".
I swap from my healer to tank and respond to Mr CP 400.
9FirSFz.jpg

Apparently, he doesn't realize that he is whispering me on console as well which makes him also a...console pleb.

But! Mr CP 400 inspired me. I was going to carry this low-level through whatever dungeon showed up for pledges today because I was inspired!
Yes
! I am an elitist and I am proud of it, but I am an elitist with a heart and the memory..of when I too..was a noob. (It was last week, I think ) A noob hard casting crystal frags in heavy reinforced non set armor.

So I got on my BIS DK tank with Ebon and Alkosh and I tanked the ever loving hell out of that final boss while CP 94 heavy attacked like his life depended on it.

Did she oneshot him every 3.5 seconds? Yes. Did she enrage? Yes. Did her soul tether instakill him? Good god YES.
But he got back up, (I made Swagg res him after every death even though we didnt need him, it was the principle of the matter, I wanted him on his FEET and ALIVE when she died dammit) and he continued to be a team player (I told him not to taunt) until she died.
It was his first clear ever in a vet dungeon. And we 3 manned it. Well, technically 2 cause he didnt count but whatever.
It was the funnest, most absurd predicament and I loved every moment of it.

I loved it so much, I drug him along to do the 2nd pledge (Not the DLC, I may have my saint moments but Im not Mother Theresa) and he heavy attacked his way to another skill point in BC.
Could I have kicked him in Wayrest and run it in 5 mins flat? Yes. Could I have chosen not to drag him thru a 2nd dungeon? Yes.
But he inspired me. To rub it in Mr CP 400's face that a true elitist..a real elitist? They can carry anyone thru just about anything (except the twins, dear god no).

So, if you are complaining or you are worried about having ONE low CP noob in your easy peasy level 1 veteran dungeon..well, then you're probably not as much of an elitist as you think you are.

Word of advice, if you are going to single out someone for being low level, make sure you are at the very least MAX level your damned self.

Shoutout to that CP 94(now 96 after the pledges!) for hanging in there. There ARE elitists out there that are helpful and willing to play as a team.

    Nice job.

It's good to know some people are fighting back against these "wannabe elitists" who keep kicking people from easy dungeons for no good reason. Because it's been annoying me pretty bad lately.

    >:) I did vet dungeons at the equivalent of cp 10. So thanks to all those who carried me, now I am the same. It's my opinion that such drastic issues arised from one tamerial, dungeons got harder, and these didn't scale while people stayed the same.

Now Morrowind sorta fixed a that by front loading cp, and capping attribute gains. So you can probably get away with doing most dungeon at even cp 10 given even tenacious. Though make sure you buy food and gear yourself to level.

while I don't generally encourage vindictive behavior regardless of how justified it might be, I *do* applaud you taking the time to work an honest trying player through vet content.

I've also enjoyed taking people through content they wouldn't normally be able to survive. It hasn't come up much in ESO for me, but I used to lead lots of dungeon runs in LOTRO, and as long as we had a decent array of core players, I was more than happy to "escort" a relatively low level (there was no level matching in LOTRO for the longest time) player who honestly wanted to try out harder content while learning to play their character. Would sometimes even promote them to main tank when we had a better equipped tank, just to give them a chance to test their mettle and see what gameplay was like when you were pushed up against a wall, instead of running the normal faceroll content.

of course, the community in LOTRO was second to none, and it was a real pleasure to work with people who had more power and found it not only valuable, but fun and entertaining, to relegate themselves to "mentor" occasionally while guiding the newer people through the content. Made for long lasting friendships and far better players in general.

I tried giving him food but then I realized I only had food for cp160! So that's when I decided I was going to have to tank it but I was not going to leave that dungeon until he had completed it.

Just be prepared for it because it's going to happen unfortunately. If you're on Xbox One North American server feel free to send me a message and I'll drag you through some dungeons. When youre ready.

I remember something similar happened to me in a normal White-Gold Tower run. Normal! Not even vet! They tried kicking the lowbie and I explained that kicking wouldn't be necessary as it was only a normal dungeon run and I could carry them through. The person still insisted on not running with a lower level player... So they were promptly kicked. lol.

Edit: The person trying to kick the lowbie was kicked - not the lowbie!

If he had just chilled out, he would have completed the dungeon with us. I wasnt going to kick him Mr CP 400 for wearing heavy armor, a two-handed and a PVP monster set because I wasnt even paying attention to him until he started being rude to the low guy!
Same thing in your case. It is not hard to do vet dungeons. And if you've got a couple people who can be meat shields to take the heat off you, it's even better.

i remember my first nSO run- i was cp250 or so a guy DD450 - spoke up saying "why are we letting the 250s do this dungeon- someone that low shouldn't have bis gear- they dont deserve it or know what to do wit it. "
i said: " I can pull pretty decent DPS- and i m sure i can kick ur asss. i then duelled him in front of everyone and the manticora and stood over his dead body triumphantly.

okay that last part didnt happen- but it could have- if we were allowed to duel in dungeons- that would be *** awesome - would it not? and the best way to solve problems i think also.

but back to the topic- the vets said we would be fine and we were indeed- fine. at the end of the day- when someone calls someone else out- for being inferiour- it just highlights their own inferiority.
you can see it coming on any of the DLC dungeons- the anticipation on planar, or the harvester- for when someone cracks and starts blaming someone else. its why every body wants a cp630 to carry them thru - so they dont get exposed- why people like to run in zergs- so they dont get exposed.

i tell ya- lately I've been running in less than BIS gear- blue quality- even though tbs, vo, etc, which i have all of- just to make it harder so that if i dont have a good rotation- i won't be pulling good dps- and it will let the team down- for the challenge. i also dont join groups much unless i feel like it- but will run alone just to challenge myself to 1vX- which is still my game dream. most times i get mowed- but every now and then i ll beat 3 or 4 players- and it feels good man- which is my point- it feels god in this game- like in life -to be independant- and on from that- once you are independant- you re not as worried about what others are doing- because you know you can hold you're own- .

Not an elitist, you are barely one.

Elitists don't give a crap about helping anyone, and mock anyone who doesn't fit their fantasy meta of "DPS/TANK" range of expectations.

Elitists don't give anyone the time of day because they can't learn to have fun..

You did the opposite. You are not an elitist :)

Elitism has positive an neg conotation in the gaming communities. Good on you for not being a jerk and helpìng someone develòp in the game and not excluding them.

We do not know the other persons story and maybe they only have so mucj game time. While that does not excuse the behavior as they can always drop and jump back in que or actually find a good guild. Good on you again for not enabling them.
