Booted from server for spamming? What?

I just logged on and tried dealing with the huge lag only to be booted from the server for spamming messages. I hadn't even typed in so much as a "hello guildies." First time it's happened. I sat there with what must have been a pretty confused look on my face while staring at the login screen for several minutes.

✭✭✭✭It happens fairly frequently (at least judging by the number of threads about it), and it's a misleading message.
First, "messages" doesn't refer to things you type in chat, but requests to the server for information. Practically anything you do in game counts as a "message" in this sense.
Second, the problem is the lag, not you. The server was so laggy that a bunch of what you were trying to do got clogged up, and then suddenly there was a break in the lag, and everything you would ordinarly have been sending to the server over the course of a few seconds got sent at once. This triggers some kind of spam filter and boots you, because under normal conditions you shouldn't be sending so many requests to the server. Of course, these aren't normal conditions, but the filter doesn't know that.7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019, Flawless Conqueror. MagDK/stamplar/stamwarden/mageblade. Hmm, well all I did was removed 5 soul gems from my bank along with 1k gold and mounted a horse to ride into town then boom, "booted for spamming" lol that isn't a whole lot.0 -

It used to be possible to get yourself kicked out with that error by using two siege weapons in Cyrodiil and running back and forth firing them too fast.
Either way it's an annoying error but not one to worry about, just try to not do anything if you find yourself in a lag spike, let it settle then continue on. You'll get less changes of being kicked that way.

Either way it's an annoying error but not one to worry about, just try to not do anything if you find yourself in a lag spike, let it settle then continue on. You'll get less changes of being kicked that way.
I'll try and remember to do that. It's just so odd to stand there for a moment, get a few things then booted from the server for no real reason. Shrug. Thanks for your advice.

It doesn't matter what you did, it's the server/connection lagging behind and catching up. If there are commands waiting when it catches up and they all hit at once it'll erroneously think you're spamming.0 -
