Worth Coming Back?

Wyzeguy

Been over a year since I've played and saw they had a big update so was wondering how the playerbase is doing and if it's worth coming back?

    NO
the game is very very unstable on literally everything at this stage, wait till ZOS has fixed the huge lag, skill stuck issue, AC (or maybe they never will), lots of functioning bugs,
and also wait till those CRAZY "balancing" moves have became more.....stable,they are favoring PVP by killing PVE, and pull out all the huge nerf on everything all the sudden to make the game lost to everyone.

In short, the game is really in chaos atm, so NO, not at this moment.

just one exception: if you are living in US and PVP only...

Yes. I'm like you. I've been away for just over a year and have started playing this week. I've just been paying solo with the odd dungeon here and there. So far I've enjoyed playing the new expansion. Of course there are bugs here and there but not game breaking. You should try it out. I forgot how awesome the graphics were compared to other MMOs.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but some of the outright bashing you find in places like the forums is over the top. If you enjoy Elder Scrolls games, enjoyed to somewhat enjoyed ESO a year or two ago, then I say definitely give ESO another look. Now there is dueling, battlegrounds arena style PvP, and there is actually a lot of PvE content. The DLC's and Morrowind Chapter is the best PvE content.

I always read everything but I tend to ignore the hate posts. I did enjoy the game but ended up quitting because I just got bored. Figured I'd ask here first to see how the game was doing because the DL is like 60gigs or so

There's been a rough patch for lag last week but that aside, Id say it is worth coming back if you enjoy this type of game :)

I feel the game is more balance than its been before and new content has been added.

Yeah I had fun. Been playing a lot of Guild Wars 2 but was missing the party grouping as in a real Tank or Healer

Worth coming back is a very subjective question . I'm having a great time on the game, but then again I'm enjoying the stories. I don't worry about min/maxing. I have multiple characters and don't feel as if I have to do everything on one character. Is it worth it, i say heck yes. Give it a shot if you like it great! if not c'est la vie.

It's great so long as you don't do anything serious in this game.

The serious game people always seem so angry. This game makes serious players angry people.

Easiest way I've found to not get too serious about the game and ruining the experience for you is to do other stuff every now and then. Don't play the game every minute of every day and you'll enjoy it more.

I say it's worth it. Truth be told I don't know what the doomsayers are still doing here, if what they feel was true then they wouldn't be playing so clearly it's either still worth it to them or they're just blowing steam.

they're staying because the game has "potential" I'm sure :)

Maybe I love this game too much, but I think it will be exciting in the days to come. Random group tend to be more balanced, so while group finder is properly functioning (which it is for now), I think you will find most dugeons encounters interesting. Unfortunately, the guards are still overpowered and deadly, so watch out if you have plans to do untold deeds. Mind you though, there's fortunate to be made with the rarest items not be on monster, but nobles sitting in court. Going down this road you might find a few bodies laying, by your hands or other's from a different guild. At last neither is my thing, but know this there is far more adventure beyond ever corner then last year.

Indeed. Since they don't say why they stopped playing, it's impossible to answer that question.

I came back for the free ESO Plus promotion to stuff my crafting bag and dye some costumes. Decided to buy a costume too. First time ever, since I see no point in undyeable costumes and regard the dye stamp system as a joke.

I love the costume so much (Telvanni wizard robes) that I've been playing just to enjoy them. My elves have never looked so elven and my khajiit look incredible.

Don't know how long that will last but it's an example of how one tiny thing made the game "worth playing" again for me.

Worth coming back, at least on PS4 I haven't had issues as of late and the player base seems to be pretty strong and active. Zos seems to be implementing the patch everyone wants after the last update which murdered sustain (it sucked but was absolutely needed). I think the game has actually turned a corner and is heading in the right direction.

The overhaul of traits is actually an indirect improvement of the terrible rng system so even that is getting better.

With the 1T patch you can go to any zone at any level and play. There are no longer any zones that out level you nor any zones that you out level and become useless. That's the good news. The bad news is, if you PvP, the lag is getting worse and worse.

The short answer is it really depends on the reason you left.

I have heard that a lot of the issues the game at launch have been fixed, better visuals, flowing combat, the lore changes are only small and it has now developed its own lore between dlcs.
The biggest issue remaining is the group finder skill sucking, that can be solved by joining a couple good guilds and never using it.
Lag... well not much you can do about it really if you live a long way from the servers. They are trying something next patch about not seeing your allies abilities which should help.
The RNG remains but its not like the game is unplayable without BiS gear.

Right now people are still in a huff about the Morrowind patch but it looks like there will be another big shift come horns of the reach patch. However, those changes look a lot more positive and pushing us back to a more interesting meta. I'd wait just a few more months until that patch goes live.

The forums are a toxic hell hole of whiney people ignore them.

I think it's worth coming back. I recently came back after being away for a very long time (The last time I played, the horror that was vet zones and VR were things *shudders*). I'm enjoying the game a lot more now than I did before. Whatever was done between then and now has made the game tons more fun for me, and it might be the same for you.

if you got bored before nothing much has happened that will change that imo,at it's root the game is still the same as it was 2 yrs ago,but give it a whirl, you never know maybe YOU have changed fundamentally :)

There are thousands of people playing the game and loving it. Yes, it's worth it. It's a fantastic game now, even if it had a rocky start a few years ago. They're constantly expanding the game, and putting out new content for it all the time. It's now my favorite game.

Wait until next patch and see how it goes. PvE is not even close to dead, PvP is a general mess of proc sets and gankers. BGs are fun when they work.

    ESO is:
    - unoptimized
    - laggy
    - has poor quest design
    - poor writing
    - ridiculously bad small-scale PvP
    - bad large-scale PvP
    - incredibly poor build diversity if you don't want to suck
    - grindy as hell

No. New content or not, the stuff above remains. Is it one of the best Western MMOs? Sadly, suprisingly, yes.
