✭✭✭✭✭Part of the problem is defining 'active' players in a game without a mandatory subscription.
Do they have to log in every day? Once a week? What if someone works irregular hours and is online 5 hours a day, every day, for 2 weeks and then not at all for another 2 weeks? What if they only log in when there's a big update or new content?
However you choose to define it people will disagree - some would say you're including people who don't count as active (and probably claim it was done deliberately to make it look better) and others would say you're leaving out people who do count (and probably claim it was done deliberately to make it look worse).
You could do a range of charts of things like average and peak logins, how long it was since each player last logged in, average hours/days between logging in etc. and look for patterns in that but I doubt many people would be that interested. Could mean more than that though. I have often wondered if my PUG group might have a ZOS bot in it just to keep the group finder moving, you know the ones that seem to just follow and never say anything or go of path. I really hope this is not true but I could see it being possible. Anyway my guess is 5Mil players.

There's around four hundred thousand to six hundred thousand active players total, in a week's playtime, which varies in accordance to the individual. Active isn't as subjective when considering the social aspects of the game but, when considering the majority of solo players, time spent being "active" is entirely subjective.
