Hi there, I`ve been playing magsorc for the last month or 2 and still on my way to collect some BiS gear, so my 5/1/1 setup is as follow : 5 x julianos + 2x ilambris + 3x willpower + front bar random lightning staff with berserker enchant and back bar vma inferno staff, all traits divines and sharpened only weapons are gold rest purple.

I know that the BiS setup will be MD lightning front bar and 3 MD jewlery but I dont have them yet so wonder how many % dps increase will they yield should I acquire them? Say maybe 3x blue MD jewlery + random lightning or 4x MD if I am lucky enough to get the staff.....Will the potential dps difference be big compare to my current gear?

For info I run not pet build and I dont run netch set either due to lack of vma lightning, tho I know it offers more dps in solo mode due to off balance, but im more focused on a group based situation atm

In the best case (legendary moondancer jewelery and sharpened staff), you trade 334 Magicka and 57 Spell damage (before buffs and passives) which equals about 1-1.5% damage loss for the minor slayer buff. Due to the formula how damage buffs are calculated, minor slayers is more like 3-4% in reallity. So the effective damage increase will be about 2-3%.

If you just use blue jewelery and don't have a moondancer staff I guess it might be even a loss compared to willpower.

Thanks for the reply I will defo take those numbers as reference. I am new to trials so I dont think I have what it takes to do vmol atm nor does my guild...Does nmol drop purple MD jewlery?

@lauykanson Which Server/ platform you are on? Since the last patch yes not many guilds are doing vMOl unless it's weekly, but i'm sure you can find one. And vMOL is all about learning mechanics and working your best with them. As long as you can do that you have it in you to do the vMOL.

I am on PC EU, currently only in some causal and trading guilds only...have done nmol a few times with guildmates but most of the time dont even have enough ppl to form a group, and even when we run it everyone is doing so high dmg its just stack and burn zero mechanics, so i cant even apply what i read and learn from alcast guide. On the other hand i am still figuring out what is the best skill loadout for a lightning/inferno setup, been testing stuff but not sure what is good and easy to rotate

Willpower is actually better than Moondancer due to how % damage increase are calculated (they are all additive and they are also additive with your CP). The more % modifiers you have, the less effective each individual one is. You always have your CP active. You'll be getting Minor Berserk in raids and your Sorc passives also give you basically 5% extra damage (yes it is only shock, but you're basically using only shock damage this patch). You have Engulfing Flames. You also might have Major Slayer which also is a 15% modifier. Add on Minor Slayer and you're actually losing damage compared to Willpower.

For example: Stamblades using Incap as main ultimate or both Templars specs are heavily reliant on % damage increases (20% from Incap and 300% from Implae/Killer's Blade; 140% from Jab/Sweeps and 300% from Radiant Oppresion), which is why Minor Slayer isn't exactly the best choice on those builds (and also the reason why Hunding's is providing more damage than VO). Its also the reason why the above classes put more CP into Efborn or Precise Strikes compared to other classes which is a multiplicative CP star. I mean even a Stam Sorc using Rapid Strikes as main spammable has a lot of % modifiers: CP, 5% Physical Damage, 8% Minor Berserk, 11% Heavy Attacks, Rapid Strikes modifier.

Bottom line is: don't get too focused on the % increases. The less you have the more effective each individual one becomes and in the case of Minor Slayer vs Willpower, if you're in a raid, Willpower is very likely to be a better choice.

So theoretically, the "real" BiS for this patch would be Willpower with double vMA staves with like a Minor Breach poison on the front bar or something of the sort.

Only in chests and weekly rewards unfortunately (and the jewelry drop rate on those is much lower than boss).

One alternative I can suggest is to farm netch jewelry and two body pieces to replace your julianos. That way you can just farm nmol for your 3 MD body pieces to get your minor slayer.

Only downside to this is that if you want to wear a 4 piece MD you have to get sharpened MD or netch staves. But if not then just use crafted sharpened staves and you'll be fine.

One thing to note is that master architect and infallible mage also grant similar bonuses as MD (as in they all give minor slayer and bonuses to mag sorcs) so they are worth to be considered if you can't find a nmol group.
