My sincere apologies to my Warden Bear :)

I have created several threads ranting about how useless the bear is for a warden.

It all changed today.

While leveling my Warden in Auridon I accidentally ran across the world boss in "Heritance Proving Ground" .

I saw folks already getting killed by Anarume.

I unleashed my bear on that boss and lo behold he kept on holding him down while LAed from range.

I did Swarm for additional damage...thats it.

My bear was killed of course but I summoned him back and he immediately aggroed the boss and kept him down.

Lesson Learned :
->Use the bear ultimate attack as much as possible (the ultimate was getting filled very fast during the fight..not sure how) ,
->Dont unleash your powerful attacks like a frenetic zombie on the boss,
->do damage over time and LA as it HELPS the bear to hold aggro at ease.

I was able to down the boss successfully

I could not accomplish in any of my other toons while leveling (of course sorc would be easier i think but i have not played one yet)

Since I ranted in public about how useless my bear I believe it is fitting to issue my apology here

I wouldn't call it useless, but perhaps too much downside.
He's great in maelstrom when he can kill most enemies when they spawn, allowing me to insta-kill to enemies at the beginning of each weaves. He's great when he can go and kill an archer or a mage in the ice arena, when I kill the boss. He's great when he destroys one of the pillar on the last boss when I'm focusing on the other two, or when I stay hidden behind the stone shield.

If only he would have been faster. And if he doesn't take two ultimate slot (why not a temporary despawn when switching on a non-slotted, and instant respawn when re-switching?). And if he doesn't miss his ultimate attack so often (why not giving him a teleport-type gap closer when using his ability?).

Sure it's useful for solo questing or world boss killing, but when getting to the actual game like Dungeons and Trials it is absolute trash. And don't even get me started on PvP

As long as the boss is immobile, alone and don't have one shot mechanism, the bear is the best ultimate I can use. It give me more damage than a classic flawlessDB/ballista combo even in non-execute range.
When there is at least two dangerous adds and/or one shot mechanism (as nearly every trials boss have), it is useless.

You've probably just discussed THE ONLY situation where the bear is semi useful, in one on one fights. Anything more than one enemy and he freaks out and starts running around like crazy, eventually getting himself killed, so you need to resummon and lose DPS, or get yourself killed if you're being targeted.
Considering you have to double bar this ultimate, it's simply not worth it.

I like the bear (for PVE), I find it tanks fairly well keeping the focus off of me (its weak but it does it) for overland, delves, dungeons, and WB's. So I can hang back attack.

It's not that he starts running around like crazy because he wants to, it's because ZOS changed minion AI to where you now will pull your tank of an enemy when you hit another enemy with a heavy attack.

If you stay on the same enemy, he shouldn't start running around. Of course, if you solo a group of 4 enemies, you'll wind up heavy attacking one or more of them to stay alive, and then the bear (and the sorc clann fear) will start running around like crazy, trying to catch up with whom you're attacking.
