Inability to transfer/copy accounts

Can anyone give insight as to why this is "not possible". Or is just the devs dont want to spend the time and money (which they would make back from offering the service) to get with microsoft or sony to get data to copy and or transfer. (This is assuming person is wanting to transfer/copy from a console to PC).

Lately the lag on console is atrocious, so ive bought the game on PC (bought like almost a year ago for pc) and started to "level". Do you know how much it sucks to have played the game for so long with gear sets, champ points, the ability to craft only to start all over. I know its my choice to switch but why not take more of my money and let me take my stuff with me.

QQ.

Merely that the devs chose to not offer it.

First, copy is not okay if any gear is included. If any gear or currency is included, it needs to be a transfer (delete all your stuff on console).

Second, might not be worth introducing the complexity to move content across separate networks. They have never performed account transfers to live servers. It can get messy. Your money is very small compared to the development cost, the operations cost to make it happen, and support/customer service cost when bad things happen. Even if they have a working solution, can they count on the console side not having process breaking changes?

Perhaps PC NA <-> PC EU would make sense since they control those environments.

Or it's a i.p. issue with don't and Microsoft not letting them take the data to another platform or inject data into their established databases.

Incorrect, when the game was released on consoles we were able to transfer our PC accounts to console accounts for a few weeks. The system is there and in place.

Depends what you want to transfer. I think CP and CS purchases are fair enough, whilst gold, items etc aren't. For example, look at the farcical events that are currently going on with mats on the PC EU server. That would ruin the economy of every server and platform. As things stand, it's contained within a single server.

This was explained somewhere but I can't remember if it was here, reddit, or a random interview. It's not possible because of how the character data is stored in the database.

As complicated as it may be its been done from pc to console. so maybe its just data storage from pc to console is possible but maybe not the other way around? but even then if it accepts it one way dont you think it would accept it the other way also? idk its wishful thinking for sure but maybe one day its can happen.

and over all i would hope for a straight up account tranfer
id be fine with leaving gold but i need my hard farmed mats ya know. and it would take anyone who did transfer to not be an ass and cause the market to go nuts in game ya know

No. The transfer/copy from PC to Console happened before the Console servers went live. And you had to sign up months in advance and they copied your account's state from about a week before launch.

So they never copied data between two live databases. Only between a live one (PC) and a blank one (Consoles).

    Simple

This isn't a play anywhere title for win10/Xbox one

Devs could've decided to change it but they didn't because the servers are seperated and they didn't build this to have syncs between different platforms. Transfers aren't what they seem either....see the comment above

It is what it is and it's also how they decided to develop

Maybe. Those that were able to transfer from PC to console had to jump through two hoops.

    1. PC game had to have been purchased during first few months of release.
    2. Those that met the first requirement had to opt to have their account copied during a short window near console release.

Basically, the copy may have occurred before consoles went live.

I think the keyword here is "live"

The PC to Console thing happened before Console launch.

    Contractual obligations.

Sure if ZOS wanted to they could do tranfsers from PC to Console, this of course would cost them money so unlikely to do it. Doing it the other way around would need approval from Sony/Microsoft to take away paying customers, and that wont happen.

    The official answer:

"We have not built, and do not plan to build, the capability to move individual characters from platform to platform. We were only able move characters in bulk for console once on June 1st 2015 because the database tables we copied to were brand new (empty). Now that the database tables are filled with other data, the techniques we used before no longer work."

Sony and Microsoft would never allow a paying customer to leave by paying some third party. The fact this game is on console is probably the reason why.

As others have clarified for me, that was not a transfer to a live system. They added accounts to the initial state of the database. As someone who deals with databases with hundreds of millions of records regularly, updates to live systems are always scary.

Add to that the problem of the policies and differing technology on the two console platforms, and it is quite an undertaking to provide that service.

Perhaps. But moving ESO accounts probably would not mean leaving the console's online service -- especially for XBox.

There could also be security reasons to not allow pulling the data. Sounds unlikely to me though.
