Stuck on Infinite Load Screens When Wayshrine Hopping

Title says it all. At my time of posting this, I have been stuck on a load screen for five minutes after wayshrine hopping. This happened to me three times earlier as well when I was doing dailies, so I decided to take a break. I come back and this crap is still happening. The only way to fix it is force shutting the game and reopening, only to have it happen again five minutes later. Has been happening in different zones for me, not only one location.

@ZOS_GinaBruno , @ZOS_JessicaFolsom any word on this issue from tech?

Happens a lot... but if you're only getting five minutes, then it's not by any means an "infinite loading screen."
I've had loading screens last an hour-and-a-half before I finally got fed up and terminated the game through the Task Manager... and it's always from one Wayshrine to another when it happens, generally when there are a lot of different textures to load, not just geometry, NPCs, other players, and other "stuff".
In the Task Manager, normally you can see that there is no change in the memory allocation for ESO; it's not deallocating, reallocating, or newly allocating memory. Which translates to something I've known ever since Beta: ZOS doesn't have half-a-clue about memory management.
Which is okay; their netcode, multi-threading, and discrete event handling isn't too good, either.

It isn't only five minutes, it will go on for hours if I let it. The five minute mark is where I force close the game through task manager and relog back in to the same issue a few minutes later.

This happens to me occasionally when grinding dolmens in Alik'r. What I've discovered is that this happens when I'm in a large group, I go into Sentinel to sell/deconstruct and on my return to the grind, that's when it will bug out. To limit the chance of the bug happening, I go to the next dolmen in the rotation, not the dolmen the group is actively working on. If it does go into the infinite load screen...it eventually does load...I tell the group that I need to logout and login. I logout and log back in. The problem has been solved every single time for me moving forward.

Theorycrafting: What I think might be happening with the infinite load screen is that the game is current instance you're in is full. The game is trying to put you into this full instance and you're stuck. The logout/login resets your instance to the correct one.

nice theory but it wouldn't explain same thing happening in cyrodiil which is one instance only, unless the other theory of people queing with other faction players to bypass the faction population limit is causing the same instance is full issue. so far ZO$ haven't commented on whether players are actually bypassing the faction cap or not though.

NEVER said anything about Cyrodiil...I was referring to dolmens in Alik'r. I guess my statement "This happens to me occasionally when grinding dolmens in Alik'r." was not clear enough.

Just for the record -- I was referring to dolmen grinding in Alik'r, not Cyrodiil.

I don't think you are far off in your theory crafting. We know that the game dynamically creates "channels" for zones to split players and prevent the zone from becoming overloaded. I think the zone loading screens are hiding a heavy weight process to place the player into one of those "channels". When that task takes a long time, for whatever reason, the loading screens get longer. When it fails, the loading screen becomes "infinite".

Cyrodiil loading screens are an entirely different thing from this. So are intra-zone loading screens, like going into or out of the bank or moving between wayshrines in the zone, and the random loading screens that appear out of nowhere while just moving around in a zone.

Depends on where you're porting to. If it's Rawl'kha, for example, it just means all the instances are full and you've been placed in queue.

Considering the lag the past few days it could be related.

If this is a normal and common experience I'd suggest opening a ticket with tech support as long load screens, while they happen, are not someone a player should be experiencing often. When it occurs often there is usually a local issue.

Yep - this just happened to me as well.

I've been stuck on a loading screen for 30 minutes now. Would be faster just to close down the game and restart. But since I am lagging so badly not in a hurry to log back in anyway.
