Guild Extortion: Is this really a thing?

One of my Guilds Banks was recently robbed by a player. A few days after he was booted he sent our GM a message stating that our Guild Bank would be robbed again by several sleeper accounts unless he received gold.

Has this happened to anyone else?

You just met good EVA Online player. Nothing new about it XD
P.S. Manage your guild ranks, and give rights to use bank only for " trustworthy "

Yeah some people get robbed by trusting wrong people. This is a thing in ESO too.

Some people hide it behind EVE Online RP. You ask me, this is just an excuse (same way freepk that say they are doing assassin RP is an excuse)

Like said above, manage carefully your rank and you should be fine.

Apparently it is, first time I've heard about it on ESO. Good luck to you and your guild.

Stop giving newbies access to bank?

This is pretty common practice in other games as said above. Whilst a continued campaign against the guild might be deemed harassment but the simplest solution is just to add some guild security.

Most of my guilds are pretty blunt about "ask these few folks if you need/want anything" and it works out okay.

I am also a member of another guild where everyone has access to anything with the single exception of pulling actual gold out of the guild bank; and this is known and stated up front. Less stuff tends to get put in this bank; there was at least one instance of someone clearing it and getting booted.

Whatever way the guild deals with banking, just be clear.

In the case above, I don't know what I'd do.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    - Pro-tip #1: Don't give members guild bank access if you don't want things stolen

    - Pro-tip #2: If you do want to give members guild bank access, then don't put anything valuable in there (most public guild banks serve as donation boxes)

So just lock down the bank so only GM has access and let the 'sleepers' go F themselves.

It would've beeen nice if ESO had given you a mission on robbing certain guild and that guild had some headquarters within the map. The loot could have been a 50% of the total guild gold, plus a 50% of items, depending of the performance.

Of course, once the thieves are detected by the guilds guards, the system sends an alarm to all the guild members, so they have the chance to go back to the HQ to defend it.

Nevertheless, that was scrapped when developers decided to put down the justice system.

Aye. Report to ZoS a harassment. Its actually criminal activity, extortion, and NOT gameplay.

The message says they have been in the guild for a while and had ranked up to have bank access. This is not.. Ohh.. look.. they have cash. It is pre-planed and a group of probably gold sellers.

At the very least, people should have to pay for the privilege of ransacking the guild. One of the best methods though, is only give access to those who have proven to be loyal whether that has been done via long term donations or crafting for/helping other guild members over a period of time.

The GM of one of my old guilds called it right, if people want to rob the bank, it will cost them 150k to do so. As for the SS you provided, that guy/gal really needs to get out more. Kiddy on gold and s/he thinks s/he's suddenly become a super duper badass. It's embarrassing at best.

We could only wish! A bounty system would be pretty awesome, assuming the minimum bounty was 500k, preventing most abuse of the system(no one will spend 500k to issue a bounty for someone who is a minor annoyance, and as far as PvP goes...if they are worth 500k+, they will be able to protect themselves from the majority of gankers)

Just re-issue all restrictions so that only the guild leader can withdraw problem solved.

Also yeah report it imo, even though it does seem like they're lying cause usually guild banks carry more than 100k

Considering one of the reports above says one thief stole 8M, 150k would be an investment.

This is REALLY making me wish for the GW2 or SWTOR guild bank system, with different vaults with different tiers of access..

Maybe he was role playing as a thief. :)

Best not to give bank access to players you do not trust. I've seen many other guilds robbed here on the forums - but I don't remember any of them being extorted like this. It's kind of funny but then it isn't.

ZOS should ease up on the guild requirements to have a bank and a store so a smaller circle of friends who trust each other can use these perks. That would probably help - and make it less tempting for guilds to give access to players they don't know very well.

Just downgrade everyone in the guild so noone can take anything from the guild bank, after that just ask the whole guild to report the people you know are robbers.

ZOS isn't going to do anything. They're not obligated to be arbiters in disputes, even when it involves their TOS or code of conduct.

If it were me, I'd let the guild vote on how to deal with it. It's only 25k gold per turd and half of said turds will never be respected in the game once their @ names get out. And they will get out.

As it affects a community of people, I would appreciate the transparency. I'd know why changes were made, and that they're to protect the guild, not as a punishment. When everybody's cooperative, it's surprisingly easy to root out *** heads because *** heads like to brag. Even if that bragging is the equivalent of taking a selfie while holding flour sacks and a handful of Ta runes which, to my knowledge, had never been gangsta at any time in the history of anything ever.

It's a little bit funny. Criminals putting their worth slightly less than the amount of Alkahest I have in my craft bag...

Continuing from my previous post. It's unfortunate Zos hasn't not provided some simple guild management tool such as being able to setup multiple sections of the guild bank and provide separate access levels to these sections. It's very basic to do so but a request Zos has not taken action on.
